Metro Aspire Hotel, Sydney4.0 out of 5.0

The Hotel is situated at Ultimo, in the centre of the University district. The Neighbourhood is really quiet and safe, even at night. It is walk distance to places such as the Sydney Fish Market, Central Station and Chinatown. Nearby has lots of cafes for quick breakfast bites well.
The standard of the refurbishment of this hotel clearly shows that Metro are committed to it as an enterprise. The rooms are large an well appointed, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is pretty good (the tropical water wall is amazing!), and I'm a fan of the area it's in. My room, at least, was pretty well priced. What really lets this hotel down is its fabric and many of its other guests. The walls are thin, I was treated regularly to the television and lovemaking noise of neighbouring guests, the perpetual opening and closing of room doors, corridor noise and some incredibly loud slamming of some appliance or attachment below (skip bin? fire exit door?) at all hours of the day and night. The worst part of this stay by far was issues created by guests smoking. It claims to be a non-smoking hotel, but I was awoken many times by the strong smell of cigarette smoke from other rooms, guests smoking on their non-smoking balconies, smoking of people in the gardens in the front of the hotel (the designated place) and smoking by staff *at the fire exit below my room.* I did raise these issues with staff, but seemingly to no effect. If you have a smoking policy ... enforce it. Otherwise say you're a hotel that welcomes smokers and the rest of us (I suspect the majority of us) will book elsewhere.
Nice, quiet residential street, but only a 10 minute walk to Chinatown, about 20 to Darling Harbour. Staff were very helpful. Room was pleasant enough, and clean. Nice to have a balcony, even if the view wasn't great! Good value, considering it is so central.
Great location to Sydney very close to central station and China town. Modern spacious rooms. Helpful staff. Didn't try the restaurant there but it looked good. Easy access to the city and transport services. Good wifi connection.
Just recently refurbished, but a disappointment. Towels were really thin. Pillows thin also. One blonde male receptionist needs either much further training or showing the door - really bad customer relations!!! Other staff very good. Rooms are not that sound proof. Doors need to have bottom seals to keep noise out - too far off the new thinner carpet. Can't turn bath taps on without first getting into the bath. Low quality TV. Light controls not centralised. Booked a double room and the bed was two singles pushed together (double sheets) so had a hard edge down the middle - very bad!!
This is not much of a walking distance to nearby attractions. If you're willing to walk longer than the usual, then this hotel is OK . Staff was very nice and courteous, value for money indeed. Breakfast available for an additional fee.
Compared with other hotels we looked at, thus was superb value for money. A massive spacious room, 2 double beds.... lounge seating area.... and a great bathroom. For much cheaper than majority of other hotels in the area. 15 mins walk from the Central station, and only 10 or so from Darling Harbour, so was fantastic for location. The only small let down is there isn't a bar in the hotel. A lovely seating area where there could be one... but only drinks available were from a vending machine. Staff were all very helpful and friendly, and hotel was very well kept, clean and tidy.
Was going to see a show at the Lyric Theatre and this place was perfectly positioned. Away from the noise but within walking distance to everything. Staff could not be faulted on their outstanding service and genuine friendliness. Rooms are a good size and the shower was great! Would definitely stay here again - highly recommend it.
The staff at the reception desk are very good, courteous and ready to assist in any issue. The rooms are very clean with great ambiance that soothes after a hectic trip in the downtown with spacious sitting space and bathroom. The hotel is out of the CBD (900 meters from Central Station) and as such very quiet both during the day and night. It is however very close to Darling Harbor Square and the Chinatown eating district (5-10 mins walk).
I've been staying at the Metro Aspire for over a week now, and I have experienced the most incredible service! The staff (especially Ralph and Sandy) have gone above and beyond to accomodate me and my booking, and I am so grateful for the genuine care they've shown! The restaurant is also brilliant. Thanks for making my business trip feel like a holiday.
