We stayed two nights at the McLaren Hotel and found it to be very comfortable, neat and clean. The common lounge on the ground floor is a good place to relax. The continental buffet breakfast is good and very reasonably priced. The building, we were told, was a Dr's residence in the 1800's and we found it to be a very interesting building. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Very much enjoyed our stay and hope to be back.
This is a special hotel nestled away from the main strip of North Sydney, but close to transport. My wife & I stayed there on 2 occasions of 3 days each stay. The facilities were kept very clean and rooms serviced each day. A special place for any patients visiting the Cataract Clinic.
Five star hotel this isn't; but what it is it does well. It's an atmospheric historical building in a quiet side street of North Sydney. Rooms have en suite and basic furnishings but don't expect much more. It's clean and cared for and the bed is not fantastic but still comfortable. I loved the quietness of the place bearing in mind its position and it's only three blocks from the station. Breakfast is continental but the charge is minimal and the dining room area was lovely, set beside a nice garden. I would stay here again.
Perfect location for business workshop this charming hotel is well looked after. Has a lovely sitting room with complimentary port and sherry. Free car parking, nice breakfast room with cheap $8 continental breakfast. Guy on afternoon shift wonderful friendly welcoming. Girl on reception on morning shift TERRIBLE no people skills nor personality. No creaking floorboards plenty of water in shower and comfy bed
Business trip recently to North Sydney, booked the McLaren online. Great location, only 12-15 minute walk from North Sydney rail station (so virtually a direct line to and from the airports). Warm, friendly environment, very quiet (set back from a quiet road), lovely gardens off ground-floor rooms. Continental breakfast just $8, excellent restaurants, hotels etc in walking distance for other meals. The room was good, not huge but very adequate, excellent bathroom, air conditioning, on-site parking if required. All in all a great little find. I will be back.
First off, if you're looking for a swanky room with the latest appliances, then sorry but you probably should look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a restful homely comforting stop in a big strange city, then McLaren is your place :) the building is national trust protected, full of character and just gorgeous from the front. Even that tree growing just next to the pavement outside grew in the perfect way to frame the hotel when you walk towards it. Staff are so lovely and welcoming, they make you feel at home and the plush armchairs and decoration in the sitting room is just spot on. The rooms might be a bit spare and toilets old but it still fits in so well with the character of the whole place. I was reading Anne of the Green Gables in the room and it definitely gave more 'scope to the imagination'. It's no wonder that they are usually booked out all the time :)
Enjoyed our stay here. Staff is nice, friendly and helpful, hospitality is excellent. Location is super. Quiet street but very close to North Sydney CBD and public transport. Cleanness did not hit our standard, but it was OK for 3 nights. The bed (matress) was too soft for us, but it depends on what you prefer. Breakfast area is really lovely and continental breakfast was the typical continental breakfast :) Totally OK at the price. Very good value in comparison with other accommodation in the area! And the lovely traditional, Victorian style is just charming :)
I will definitely stay here again. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I was greeted with a smile and a friendly chat upon arrival and loved the quaint guest house/hotel, which retains the decor and appeal of yesteryear. The room was small but had everything I needed and the bed was comfortable. It is a great location being close to business in North Sydney but is on a quiet street. The cost is very reasonable and my expectations were exceeded. Yes, you will see me again! Thank you!
Clearly not a 5 star hotel but a great place to stay, clean rooms, all the facilities that one needs. Great option if you need to be in North Sydney. Jess, the receptionist, was just delightful and a pleasure to deal with. I'll be a return customer!
Value for money is super here... as is the included car-parking- a rare treat! ... normally pricey in Sydney! This is an intimate, boutique, clean and very welcoming establishment. My room was immaculate, and encompassed all the usual accoutrements - coffee and tea making facilities, 'fridge, toiletries, towels, TV, etc. I was surprised to learn an electric blanket was not included, but this proved unnecessary as the cooling/heating system worked perfectly. Shower pressure was good and there was an array of lighting options from which to choose. The bed was wonderful - Cloud 9 softness - glorious! This is an older building, so there are stairs... If this is an issue, ensure you book a ground-floor room. Overall - Remarkable 3.5-4 star property, beautifully clean and convenient. It is situated next to a school, which I only noticed while students celebrated a birthday before entering in the morning.
