Stayed here for three nights in a standard double room in April and expectations were definitely exceeded. Looked like a nice venue online, but for such a cheap price given the location, was not expecting much! Lovely setting and gorgeous garden. Room was small but comfortable, shared bathroom was not a problem as it seemed to be a 2:1 ratio and our section was fairly quiet. Walking distance to great restaurants, cafes and only a couple of minutes to the ferry! We had the included breakfast, which was excellent. Room was a little bit noisy, but didn't affect sleep at all.
We stayed at Glenferrie Lodge last June and had a wonderful time. The location is terrific since it is fairly quiet. It is about a 20 minute walk from the Milson's Point station (first stop after crossing the Harbor Bridge) but that provided good exercise for us each day (only the day that we arrived and the day that we left when we had to take our luggage with us did the walk seem difficult). We also took the ferry to Circular Quay a few times (only about a 2 minute walk from the hotel) but that was more expensive so we used the ferry selectively. The room was on the top floor and there was no lift but again the exercise of climbing stair was fine with us (we preferred the room that we had on the top floor to a room that we were offered on a lower floor). It was clean and had a television, refrigerator, coffee making supplies, and multiple USB plugs in the room. We had to use a shared bathroom but rarely had to wait to use the showers or toilets/sinks. The staff was always friendly and helpful (even taking a message for us from someone who found our lost wallet containing a room key with the hotel name on it). The breakfast each morning was delicious and was a great way to start the day. Overall a very pleasant experience staying there; would stay again if we are able to get back to the Sydney area.
We stayed here after a friend had recommended it but he had not been for many years. The location is definitely 5 star but the general cleanliness and in particular the bathrooms is sadly 2 star! The sheets, beds and pillows are of a good hotel standard, we kept reminding ourselves of this when using the unisex shared bathrooms which clearly do not get cleaned regularly enough or well enough. With such little effort this place could be wonderful. When using the communal laundry the floor is filthy making it most unpleasant to iron clean clothes. Whilst in there looking out the window onto piles of junk, which sadly was the view from a few bedrooms too showed the lack of effort. The breakfast was adequate. They've got so much going for them they just need to sort out these crucial matters.
Looking for a well rated budget accomodation close to Sydney's CBD is not that easy. Certainly, there are many backpacker hostel, the quality of which appears to be varying. Getting a good room on short notice also proofs tricky, of course. Quite some research led me to Glenferrie Lodge. The Lodge is quietly situated in Kiribilli, a wealthy district of Sydney. The interior is a nice combination of style and budget accomodation. I had a single room which was rather small, but well equiped incl. air conditioning, a stand for suitcases and a TV set. Since the room was on the ground floor my window led into some construction site in the backyard. However, there was no noise disturbance. Despite some scratches on the wall, the room was clean. For those who care about their beds being made by room service: I found it rather strange that while having room service knocking doors starting at about 9:30 only my dustbin got emptied and the sheets on the bed were left untouched. I don't really care about that. It just appeared kind of strange. The room was equipped with a comfortable bed, a small table and chair, a (pretty loud) minibar fridge and an electric kettle incl. free coffee and tea. The dining room offers free cold and warm water and a microwave for public use until 22:00. Shared showers and toilets are clean and have never been crowded. Most likely due to its position in the city it wasn't populated by noisy party people, but rather mid aged and quiet guests. During check-in I had issues with my VISA card. Still, the receptionist was so fair to open the room for the first night and let me find an ATM. The place can either be reached by a ~10 minutes walk from train station Milson's Point (the first one after passing the Harbour Bridge), or by a 5 minutes ferrie ride from (to) Circular Quay. The walk to the ferrie station is less than 5 minutes from Glenferrie Lodge. And despite its high price ~6$ for one ride it is absolutely recommendable for Sydney primers just like me. The view to the Opera and CBD is absolutely amazing. All in all great place at a fair rate of ~80$. I would stay here again.
We were a little disappinted in Glenferrie Lodge. It was a lot bigger than we had expected and had a real backpacker/boarding school feel about it. The room was OK and the bed comfortable but the shared facilities were not adequate for the number of rooms. We had to queue for a shower in the morning and the water wasn't hot when we did get one. Wouldn't stay there again as there are other options in Sydney at similar prices or for a few dollars more that offer ensuite.
If you want a convenient location to the CBD, but want a quiet neighborhood, this hotel is a great choice. Rooms are very small, but they have many public spaces where you can sit. Breakfast is excellent. Enjoyed sitting outside and listening to birds in the garden. Restaurants and shops within walking distance. Easy access to CBD from the ferry that is across the street from hotel. Not all rooms have bathrooms, so you might need to share with other guests.
A good place, in a nice, quiet street, just one minute walk to the Kirribilli ferry which takes you in 10 minutes to Circular Quay, the Opera and Sydney CBD. The ensuite room was large, clean. The whole place probably needs a bit of facelift.
Exceptional value for money. Very close to Kirribilli Wharf and within walking distance to Kirribilli Village, Luna Park and Milsons Point Station. Plenty of bathrooms so not an issue for rooms without an ensuite. Breakfast thrown in with a hot and cold buffet and even pancakes. Beautiful gardens and breakout areas. Not disability friendly unfortunately.
We loved the look of the building and the location so first impressions were perfect. We got a shock when we found that there were only shared bathroom , showers and toilets avaliable down the hall and they were unisex add well. In the end I didn't mind having to go to a common shower and toilet but it was ackward brushing your teeth as the only basins were in the toilet cubical. I think the advertising for the hotel is a little misleading. I read something about rooms with showers and common bathrooms, not common, unisex showers and toilets. Perhaps if there was at least a basin in each room to just wash you face and teeth that would help. Otherwise it's a lovely place, servers nice breakfast.
This hotel was a beautiful surprise. After being price shocked trying to find a place to stay in Sydney, I was skeptical about this hotel because it seemed reasonable and nice. I was not disappointed. The bed was comfortable, the hotel was quiet, and the whole place kind of felt like I had somehow cheated and found a much nicer place than I generally stay at a reasonable price. As an American, I was unsure of the shared bathroom accommodations (not common) but they were nicer than many private hotel bathrooms I have had, clean, roomy, private and well lit. The staff was helpful and accommodating and there was even laundry on site. I really have nothing bad to say.
