This was my second stay at Glenferrie Lodge. We had a two person room with shared bathroom. During my first stay we had a lovely room in the main building, upstairs with easy access to the shared bathroom. This time around we were at basement level in a room with no windows, facing the street. This meant we had to walk outside in full view of the street to get to the bathroom/shower. There was no internal access to bathrooms and the bathrooms closest to use weren't like the ones upstairs where there are several showers and toilets. It was small to tiny bathrooms with a shower and a toilet - which meant no one could use the toilet if someone was showering. Due the the untidiness of other guests the toilets sometimes weren't flushed and there was hair and dirt in the toilet and sink. Though this stopped once it was less busy after the weekend. I did noticed that the conditioner was never refilled in one of the bathrooms the entire 4 nights I was there. The floor in the bathrooms was often wet as there was nothing to stand on once you got out of the shower. Due the location of our room at the front of the building we got all the noise from people walking up the stairs to the main lodge, though it generally wasn't to much of an issue. What was an issue was the teenagers who would talk loudly outside our room after 10:30pm the first three nights. It would be nice if staff checked the outdoor areas before the front desk closes at 10:30pm. When first arrived we saw a staff member walk past us down the stairs as we came up to reception. We then so no one at the desk and a sign saying someone would return in 10 minutes. However the staff member we passed was back quite quickly, she obviously made the effort to come straight back when she saw us arrive. That was appreciated. One of the mornings we wanted to pay for breakfast there was no one at the desk and no sign saying when they'd be back. I had to go into the kitchen and ask if there was anyone servicing the desk. The young man I spoke to was very nice and promptly found someone. The staff were helpful and nice when you asked for assistance. However During our last stay I felt they were a bit better, there was always someone at the desk and the person who checked us in last time bent over backwards to ensure we knew how to get to the ferry, suggested where to near by to eat and how to get there. Not saying they did a bad job this time, just not on the same level as last time. Although I didn't enjoy being in a room with no windows, it was clean and comfortable and appreciated that there was enough pillows on the bed. There was also extra blankets in zip up bags which was nice, as it gave me the impression they were cleaner than the usual smelly blankets you find in some other hotels. The location is great. It's a nice, quiet and safe area. There is a good choice of restaurants and cafes a short walk away. There is also easy access to public transport, 2 min walk to the ferry and an easy walk to Milsons Point train station. There are also some buses near by. Nearby Kirribilli Wharf also has a great cafe with good coffee. I would stay here again and I would recommend it. However if staying again I would request a room in the main building, or at the least not one of the two basement level rooms (rooms 58 and 59) that face the street and have no internal access to a bathroom. There is also a vending machine out the front of these rooms which can cause a small amount of noise. The rooms are also supposed to be cleaned every 3 days according to the guide in the room. They did not bother to clean our room once, we believe because we were checking out the day after day 3. We weren't even offered it as an option nor were we told it wouldn't be cleaned, poor service on their part. If you want your room cleaned more often than that it's $20 which I refuse to pay out of principal.
My boyfriend and I stayed at Glenferrie for one night midweek- we wanted to explore Kiribilli and have a close base to go back to. We were both on a budget- so after trawling through dodgy looking motels for around the same price we were surprised to find something that looked so great. We weren't disappointed when we arrived- the building is beautiful with a great outdoor seating area and garden. It would be perfect to share a bottle of wine in! The rooms are a decent size with a shared bathroom- we found the bathrooms were nearly always empty and kept clean. The only small issue we had was the noise from the air con unit. It did keep us up for a while- but we just turned it off and used to fan in the end which was sufficient. The location is great for exploring- only 10 minutes from Milsons Point station to the hotel. In the evening we had a pleasant walk to the bars and restaurants. The views are spectacular as you can see the whole of Sydney Harbour including the Opera House and Bridge. Helpful and friendly staff when we checked in- cannot complain! I was sad to leave this place after just one night and hope to return in the future for a longer stay.
We visited as a family with parents, two daughters and a grandmother attending a wedding in Sydney. The reception was at Luna Park so Glenferrie Lodge was ideal as a base. The lodge is superb; old style with basic but comfortable and very clean rooms, a great full breakfast included in our two day stay. It is very convenient to ferries and within walking distance of the railway station. Day parking and after hours street parking can be difficult but not impossible to find - a matter of chance. That and the shortage of rooms with an ensuite (we had shared facilities which were ok), a steep staircase to upstairs rooms and some creaky wooden floors would be the only shortcomings. We would definitely return if looking for accommodation in this part of Sydney.
Glenferrie Lodge was a key part of a fantastic visit to Sydney. Great, tucked-away location in beautiful residential Kirribilli with short walks to spectacular views. Easy access to everything via F5 Kirribilli Wharf ferry and if you miss a particular boat you have the F4 service from Milson's Point, as well as the north south train line. Great ambiance and atmosphere. Super, super helpful staff. Rooms very clean; beds very comfortable. Rooms can be small but it wasn't an issue for us. Nice selection of restaurants and small grocers also about 10min walk away.
We stayed in a double room with shared bathroom for 5 nights. The lodge was lovely with great dining area out outside area. Rooms were well equipped and bathrooms very modern and clean. Good location next to ferry port to get to the main parts of the city.
Glenferrie Lodge is located on a nice quiet street in Kirribilli. The ferry to Circular Quay is less than 5 minutes walk away. It was kind of cool for us taking the ferry going to Circular Quay because the harbor scenery is so awesome! Staff are very helpful and courteous. Linens are very clean. Bed is very comfortable. Although we chose a bedroom with shared bathroom, it wasn’t really inconvenient. The bathrooms were very near our room. Breakfast buffet has several choices. The place has a garden in the back where guests could relax and children could play. Only thing is there’s no lift because the building is a heritage site. But the staff helps carry the luggage up the stairs. Will definitely come back to stay.
Glen Ferrie lodge was very welcoming & accommodating for our large group. The staff were amazing! Can’t wait to come back again. The breakfast is great value and the outdoor seating is the perfect place to enjoy a wine! So close to ferries and harbour bridge!
This lodge is excellent value for a quick stay in Sydney. I stayed in a single room with a shared bathroom, and found the facilities to be clean and tidy. The bedroom was tiny, but was exactly as described on their website. Bed was comfy and the room had a desk/chair, mini fridge, kettle, TV and air con. Location was great with Kirribilli Ferry terminal only a 3 minute walk away. Easy access back to the city via this transport. Staff member on front desk was polite. Only downfall to this property is the huge flight of front stairs to get to reception - not pleasant lifting a 20kg suitcase up!!!!
I stayed here for three nights at the end of February. We stayed in a twin room with a shared bathroom. The room was a little on the small side but fine for a city break where you don't actually spend long in the room itself. We had a shared bathroom which was fine although I would say that it would have benefited from more as we were sharing two bathrooms between 6 rooms. A sink in the room would have also helped. The staff were friendly and free WiFi which was good. Nothing like a hostel and would definitely stay again if I was back in Sydney. Location to the ferry was perfect! Would recommend for a cheap but nice stay :)
This is one of the most reasonably priced lodging opportunities in the area. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are shared, but it is not a problem. The ferry is very near, to get to Circular Quay, and from there anywhere in the harbour. I will stay again.
