The hotel was booked by our tour company, China Highlights. It is a convenient location, close to shopping and restaurants. It has a Starbucks café off the lobby, which is very handy. Our room was large, with a comfortable king bed and a good sitting area and work-desk. The bathroom was a good size and the shower had a good supply of hot water. The room safe held all our necessary items and it was quiet - so a good night's sleep for the 2 nights. The breakfast was included with the room, and since it opened at 6am, we were able to get a good, filling breakfast before we started our daily tours. This was especially important when we had an early morning train to catch. The buffet had a great selection of both Chinese and western food. It is a short walk to the shopping areas near the hotel. There is a lot of choice for restaurants as well. We'd certainly stay here again.
We spent two nights here. It is centrally located making for an easy walk to shops and restaurants. The room was clean and spacious and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was nicely appointed. The room temperature was on the warm side due to the central air conditioning having been turned off. However, we were able to use the fan on the thermostat to bring the temperature down. The breakfast provided was adequate at best. We would consider staying here again.
The location of the hotel is the main reason for staying here. It is right smack in the center of the heart of Suzhou's city centre, Stone Road. Right behind it is a food street with local street delicacies and small restaurants. It is also within walking distance to the popular ancient towns of Suzhou. The suite is big and comfortable. Soundproofing is not that good as I can hear my neighbours talking.
The Holiday Inn Suzhou is situated very close to the old town and all the local area attractions. We stayed for only 1 night as we didn't have too much time in Suzhou, and it was a decent place to sleep. The room was very large and had a relatively nice view, but despite the fact that we requested a non-smoking room, we were given a smoking room. We wanted to change the room but since it was already very late we decided to stick with it. Other than the smoking room mixup, the room was fairly clean and the beds were pretty comfortable. The bathroom was also rather quirky with the shower almost being dangerous. The shower had a rather interesting design quirk where the drainage was at the highest point in the shower. This made the shower very slippery and uncomfortable, and my dad almost slipped in the shower. Something should definitely be done about that. Breakfast was on the 6th floor and this was by far the most disappointing part of our stay here. The breakfast area was very cramped and the food options, while plentiful, were not up to par with other hotels of this caliber in China. For 90RMB, I would usually expect something more. If you stay at this hotel, go for a local breakfast place(of which there are many) for a much cheaper and tastier experience. All in all, the Holiday Inn Suzhou certainly isn't the best choice, but if you want easy access to the old city and don't spend too much time in the hotel proper, this is actually a pretty good place to stay in!
Room was very nice and clean. Quite spacious bathroom and space for two armchairs in addition to the beds in the main room. It was non-smoking and on the 18th floor, so a great view, as well. A friend who stayed in another room selected a non-smoking room but her room smelled a lot like smoke. Service was good. Check in staff spoke relatively good English and I was able to change money there, as well. The location is very convenient to the Metro and bus, and is located in an area that is quite lively, even at night (which is pretty rare for China). There is a Starbucks in the lobby. Only thing to watch out for: the website says there is a lobby bar but it is nowhere to be found and the staff didn't understand when we asked them.
I stayed here for 4 nights and the over all experience was great. The room are spaces and clean. Bed are comfortable but the pillows were rather too soft. Do ask for higher floor as the view outside the window is great, you can see all the low rise building at this beautiful old city. Suzhou ancient old city and city wall just a 5 mins drive away. The location were great for travellers or businessmen, very centralise and convenient to visit this beautiful city of Suzhou. The food at the breakfast counter in level 6 were average. There is a Starbuck coffee chain just right beside the registration counter located at the first level which open from 9am to 10pm everyday. Overall experience in this hotel was great, will stay here again for my next visit in Suzhou.
Stayed here for 3 days and have to say it's easy to get to. If you are coming from Shanghai by high-speed train go to the main station (not north) and this hotel is 2 stops. Its located at Shi Lu ( stone road) and go out exit 9. You will see it on the south side. The hotel is a bit older but the rooms are large and clean. The staff are quick (sometimes too quick) and very efficient. The level of English is not top notch but they will try their best to understand. Due to its location you can easily access all the tourist sites in suzhou via metro easily. Also just 5 minutes away ( walk in direction of bank of china and head that direction) is the famous night shopping street Shandong road Overall this hotel is very reasonably priced, centrally located and has large rooms.
After a few days in Shanghai, we took the high speed rail to the nearby city of Suzhou to spend a few days somewhere different. The older part of the city is a water town, and the river was visible from our room. In fact, modern skyscrapers are visible in the distance, so this hotel could be billed as being in central old Suzhou. It was a large room, and while it could probably use an update of the decor, it was nonetheless clean and comfortable. The free wifi was pretty solidly robust, and the room has a safe. The bathroom had both a tub and a shower and has been modernized. So that actual accommodation is very nice, and we slept well. As a westerner, the breakfast left something to be desired for me. I can generally get by with some cereal or toast if necessary, but even these offerings didn't quite measure up, especially from a western chain. I just happened to meet the manager during our stay, and he agreed in this assessment. Perhaps by now there has been improvement, because this is actually a nice hotel. While better than simply "average", it was not quite four stars, though I have awarded this out of generosity. Certainly the price was very good, even compared to Shanghai. There is a shopping center within easy walking distance of the hotel, (with a Starbucks), and a historic water town area is also nearby. This is not a touristy water town; regular people are living here, and thus our stroll through that area was restrained, with discreet use of the cameras. One entertaining feature of the area adjacent to the hotel is that it seems to be something of a Red Light district. But there are also a large number of small restaurants too, so it is not exactly a scary district. I guess the Chinese authorities never let things get out of hand; in fact there was a small Police station nearby. We're from Nevada, so I must admit it was fun to see the various "nightclubs" from our hotel room window on the eighth floor. Another great feature of this hotel is the proximity of public transit. There are bus stops on each side of the street in front of the hotel which made it easy to get to attractions such as Tiger Mountain Park and The Humble Administrator's Garden. If you are leaving Suzhou by train, give yourself some extra time to get to the train station, since many of the taxi drivers seemed reluctant to take us the relatively short distance to the train station. Were they holding out for airport runs to Shanghai? All in all, it is a good comfortable hotel, with very reasonable rates, centrally located in the older part of Suzhou. They only have to improve the breakfast.
The location is good, it's close to rail way station, Shantang Street, and other attractions, it seems it had been open for many years, I can image at that time when it's open, it must be the best hotel in town, but now, the facilities looks old, I think it need renovation now.
In my opinion holiday is one of the best chains, at this particular hotel everything is great, service is excellent. However my experience did not meet my expectations. Since it got a little colder in Suzhou management shut down the air conditioner. When I asked for it to be turned back on they sent a free standing fan to my room...this is a common problem with hotels in China, it was suggested to me to open the window, with the pollution I could barely see the buildings downtown so I was not about to open the window. If you are in a hot room you want to drink something cold, the mini bar is disappointing with four sad cans of pop. Most of the staff doesn't speak English but they will always find someone who does at help you out. Will I stay here again, for the location yes, and definitely with adjusted expectations.
