I have stayed here several times. The hotel is clean, well staffed and in a good location. If you take the train from Shanghai just get of at Shi Lu station and its 3-4 minutes walk away. Shi Lu station is 2 stops from the Suzhou railway station A grocery store (Vanguard) is close by as well as a multitude of shops. If you want to be close to the canal as well as the famous shopping street, both are very close. In fact you can walk just past the hotel and board the canal boat, one of the old city gates is also close by. The photo attached shows you the canal and gate to give you an idea of how close The hotel is reasonably priced, well staff and in a great location. The rooms are generally quite large and do offer good value
we didn't have high expectations for the hotel, as we had chosen it because it was close to public transport (shi lu metro station). the hotel turned out to be quite the gem. first, it is really close to the metro as we expected, and in fact there were several malls, convenience stores and even a street market in between, so we could always find an atm, grab a quick bite when necessary. coming in via train from shanghai, it is just two stops away on the metro. if you have just a piece of small luggage, this is quite easy to do. for larger parties or more luggage, just take the taxi. shantang street is also just one metro stop away. great place to spend the late afternoon and evening. lots to see and eat. now that tongli metro station is open, another big plus of being close to the metro is that you can literally ride it all the way to tongli and then buy your tongli watertown tickets at the station (it is discounted there and cheaper than some online ticketing, and it includes a complimentary shuttle bus to the watertown from the metro). we really only took the taxi once (to tiger hill) because we worked out that it was not well connected to the metro and close enough for a cheap didi ride. as for the hotel, everything was clean and well appointed. we got a nice large room (probably upgraded) and the bathroom was enormous. standard holiday inn amenities which are not great but we didn't expect more anyway. the air conditioning was decent, a contrast to other hotels in this range in china. bed was super comfy. we swapped out the pillows for contour ones and they were much better. housekeeping was spot on during the few days we stayed here. staff always polite, spoke good english, and professional. by the way, ask for a higher floor, and you'll get a great view of this wonderful city. it is really quite surreal at night to see the traditional houses lit up along the waterways. there is a starbucks on the ground floor, which is expensive but a life saviour on the one day when it turned really cold and we just didn't want to go anywhere too far for breakfast and coffee. i'm sure there are plenty of other boutique or chain hotel options, but i can't imagine anyone doing better at this price range, for this convenient location.
I stayed there for a night with a group tour! No Complaints as such. Rooms were modern, nice, clean, well equipped. Breakfast was good too! Did not get to interact much with staff, so cannot comment on that!
Not really Holiday Inn standard. Grouting in bathroom needs replacing. Air conditioner set at 24.5 which is hot for sleeping. Minimal understanding of English by staff. The English HBO and Cinemax channels on TV were on 5% volume and the Samsung TV with the speaker at the back didn't help. The person who came to see spoke no English and didn't understand. The front desk needs people who smile but the room we had on 24th floor was large and did have a good view at night. The room had very good safety information and a torch on constant charge. The breakfast was average with a reasonable choice of things. Coffee was not their strong point. The pastries were stale and the glass tables were rusty. The vegetable dishes were excellent. The Wi-Fi ok but as everywhere in China no Gmail, no Google, no What's App and seemingly no photo attachments to emails.
I was quite disappointed by this hotel even if is located in a good area of Suzhou. The positive things are the hotel position, close to the subway, and the fact yhat yhe room was clean. The biggest disappointment was the breakfest were mainly only Asian dishes were served. Ok to stay for max 2-3 days only.
This was not what I was expecting for Holiday Inn. Newly renovated and clean hotel with great amenities. The lobby was large bright and welcoming. A break from the outside with comfortable chairs in lobby. The breakfast area was spacious and food had wide selection. For breakfast both East and West tastes. The rooms were great, shower room nice and bright with new fixtures. Dividing wall between bed and shower is glass with motorized blind within glass. Very comfortable beds and wish I could have stayed longer.
I booked ahead with breakfast option. As a platinum elite member I rarely get upgraded, but here I got a huge room with the most space of any hotel I stayed at in China. One of the few places that included a channel guide to TV which was helpful to find English channels. In a good location which had several restaurants in walking distance. Breakfast was buffet with plenty of Asian and western options.
Disabled room was a smoking room. When I asked for an air freshener I was curtly told to open the window. There was no seat in the shower not one available in the hotel. Reaction to this problem was very defensive. Eventually after to Chinese friends intervened they found an old chair in their store which was upholstered. No restaurant owned by hotel so had to pay separately. Restaurant closed at 20h30. Good location but hotel is showing its age and needs renovation.
The hotel was booked by our tour company, China Highlights. It is a convenient location, close to shopping and restaurants. It has a Starbucks café off the lobby, which is very handy. Our room was large, with a comfortable king bed and a good sitting area and work-desk. The bathroom was a good size and the shower had a good supply of hot water. The room safe held all our necessary items and it was quiet - so a good night's sleep for the 2 nights. The breakfast was included with the room, and since it opened at 6am, we were able to get a good, filling breakfast before we started our daily tours. This was especially important when we had an early morning train to catch. The buffet had a great selection of both Chinese and western food. It is a short walk to the shopping areas near the hotel. There is a lot of choice for restaurants as well. We'd certainly stay here again.
We spent two nights here. It is centrally located making for an easy walk to shops and restaurants. The room was clean and spacious and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was nicely appointed. The room temperature was on the warm side due to the central air conditioning having been turned off. However, we were able to use the fan on the thermostat to bring the temperature down. The breakfast provided was adequate at best. We would consider staying here again.
