Macdonald Frimley Hall Hotel and Spa4.0 out of 5.0

Stayed here for weekend to watch the golf at Wentworth. The location is tucked away behind a housing estate and is very quiet. Everything inside the hotel was average but clean. the hotel itself is in desperate need of a revamp with everything showing signs of ware and tare. Had one evening meal during our 4 night stay and wished we hadn't basic food at hotel prices. The gardens are a good retreat on a warm evening.
I don’t even know where to start. Everything with this place is wrong. Before I start, I sent a complaint email 6 days ago and still haven’t heard back. I will keep this brief for you all. My partner is a nurse and had a very stressful week so I decided to take her to this ‘Spa’ (if you can call it that). As we arrived, we were told the restaurant was full for the night, so we couldn’t eat there. The bar (has 4 tables) was also full. There was a wedding that we weren’t made aware of, which is very embarrassing when we walked past them in our dressing gowns. This is NOT A SPA, it’s a community pool, overlooking the car park, full of kids running around, about 4/5 sun loungers (all being used the whole time), a tiny sauna/steam room (all full), inflatables in the pool and no jacuzzi. Changing rooms dirty and flooded. I got a feature executive double room which was dirty, something splattered on the wall and curtains and mould in shower. I complained and they said the only room we could move to was above the function room which had loud music until 12. We moved rooms and was up all night, saw 2 fights from wedding guests. Called 4 Times for room service and went dead every time. On the 5th time, someone answered and told me they were by the phone the whole time (yeah right) and that the wait was around 45mins... for a few drinks. I decided to go down and collect. Drinks were VERY expensive too. Ordered breakfast for our room which came cold, tasted like cardboard and missing things I ordered. As I mentioned, I complained 6 days ago and still haven’t heard anything back. Avoid this place like the plague, it was horrendous and the best part was when we left. Left more stressed than when we arrived.
I attended a spa day last weekend for a special birthday with a good friend. The booking, follow up call to confirm the treatment times and subsequent welcome on arrival by Lisa who was so friendly really set the right tone. I knew we were in safe hands and would have a relaxing day, I opted for the pedicure that was included within the package and (luckily for me) there was a cancellation and was able to book the superfood facial also with Becci my therapist- hands down the best treatment I’ve ever had!! The compliments I have had since make me want to go back and book one every weekend!! The pool was lovely and the perfect temperature, there were hotel guests using the pool too- but due to the size of the pool and general courtesy nobody was on top of one another. The afternoon tea included in package was served in the main lounge, and perfectly adjusted to suit my celiac friend who said the scones were some of the best she’s ever had. Thank you Frimley Hall for a truly memorable spa day, it’s certainly not the last you’ve seen of us! Can’t wait to come back x
Went for a spa weekend but left disappointed. I personally don't think they should advertise this as a spa. It's basically a rectangular hotel pool, which all the hotel guests can use as well, with a handful of sunloungers. We ended up sitting on plastic garden chairs - not exactly the relaxing experience we wanted! There was a sauna and steam room - but no hot tub. Overall - definitely not a spa when you are simply swimming in a pool with a load of kids who are staying in the hotel. The treatment rooms were nice and the staff were great though. Food was pretty awful - overcooked and felt very 'ready meal' style. Again - staff were great but chef was clearly not a chef!
Lovely building let down by penny pinching attitude. Don't know whether it was staff that couldn't be bothered to find out or the true state of affairs... I do not drink UHT milk it is vile nasty stuff and not at all good for you - this milk upsets my stomach. In the room were those pots of UHT to make your tea. I asked if the kitchen had any fresh milk but was advised by a supervisor that MacDonalds policy was to buy the same milk throughout therefore all their milk was UHT. I asked if they were sure as it has a particular taste and unpleasant on cereal and tea and was told again that that is the only milk they have..... appalling really. The phone was not working in the room so couldn't order rooms service, had to go down to reception each time we needed anything. The restaurant was fully booked by the time we checked in 4.30pm which meant we had to go out for a meal as room service only offered snacks and as our phone was not working it was not easy to use this limited facility. The taps in the bathroom kept dripping and the water was extremely hot, my wife could not turn the taps on or off so this problem had been going on for some time - phone not working so went downstairs to talk to someone but queue at reception desk with 1 person on duty was 4 deep - 2 other guests were complaining about the state of their rooms so abandoned this idea as my time is more valuable than this. The only good thing about this EXPERIENCE was the breakfast which was great, tasty, hot. fresh and good spread. I generally do not write negative reviews but felt that too much was wrong with the stay to ignore things. Also whilst waiting in recption another customer who was unhappy with his room made a good point. He planned a romantic & relaxing stay with his hard working fiancee and booked months ahead only to have her stressed by the state of the room - potentially ruining their weekend. I too was looking forward to having the same sort of weekend - don't let this happen to you.
Stayed for planned two nights for business then the bad weather hit. I had to stay an extra two nights at short notice. Staff at reception were helpful and nothing was any trouble for them. Food was lovely and restaurant staff made me feel comfortable even when dinning alone. Mushroom soup and belly pork are delicious!! Staff are a real credit to the hotel. Housekeeping staff are excellent. My room was immaculate every day. I will stay here again and recommend for business and pleasure trips. The only bad thing was that I hadn’t brought my swim and gym stuff with me.
I had a breakfast meeting here and arrived a little before 9.30am. My colleague asked on my behalf if the breakfast was still being served and after being told it was , I ordered an omelette. This disgrace arrived with no side, but with the message that the chef was “having some fun”. My food, which was priced at 18.50£ consisted of a disk of hard mixed egg, with two tomato eyes and a smiling mouth made of herbs. £18.50 for this utterly foul thing was 1850 pence too many. Later, as our meeting had lasted through the morning we ordered a snack - calamari with a Vietnamese dipping sauce. Strange that this Vietnamese dipping sauce was olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I do not know whether oily battered squid with olive oil is “a thing” in Frimley but as far as I am concerned, this was one of the worst combinations I have ever tasted. I would suggest that should you be in the need for good hearty and reasonably priced food, then head for Cafe Deli in Frimley high street. Do not eat here. Regards Dw
We arrived about an hour or so before the 3 p.m. check in on the Friday afternoon. The receptionist checked to see if our room was ready, it was, so we were allowed in. I don't have anything to complain about the room, it was plenty big enough, comfortable and clean. Everything worked. There was also a card from the hotel and towels on the bed in shapes of swans for our anniversary which I'd mentioned on the booking. A nice touch. Our package was Dinner, Bed & Breakfast for 2 nights. I'd already booked our evening meal time in advance, a good tip as we have stayed at another Macdonalds hotel and had to eat very late which I don't like because I hadn't realised you had to book. So if you want to eat at a particular time BOOK ahead!! Prior to our evening meal we used the spa facilities. No treatments, just the swimming pool, sauna and steam room. I don't understand why people bother to mention there is no jacuzzi, it is not listed on the hotel facilities so don't go there if that's what you want I'd say. The pool was big enough, appeared to be well maintained. There were only a few people in there at that time of day but I can imagine it would get a little hectic if you were there on a spa day package. We used it on the Saturday & Sunday morning before checking out and it was all very relaxing, no complaints. Yes the changing rooms are a bit crammed, again it wasn't a problem the times we were there. We had robes, slippers and towels to use which was nice we could just pop on and go back and forth from the hotel. I didn't use the showers in the pool area only in our room. I do concur with other comments about the amount of excess water in the changing areas it just needs keeping an eye on and a quick mop/clean round every hour. We'd brought our own champagne and glasses. The prices for drinks I think are totally extortionate, the cheapest bottle of house wine was £24 I don't know how they justify the prices but I know this is world wide in hotels. We had a couple of gin & tonics on the Saturday night £15.30 that was enough!! We were on the 2 course deal, there wasn't a huge choice but enough. We had tap water both nights I did have the £24 but I refuse to play that game. The standard of food was very good, tasty and well presented I couldn't complain. My sorbet was left of the dessert but I asked the waiter and he brought it on a side dish. My only niggle would be that on the second night we were given the same menu with only a change of 1 dessert and 1 starter. The mains were exactly the same so this was a bit disappointing. However, I did have something different both nights. I had the chicken the first night and Salmon the 2nd night both cooked well. Again you have the option for steaks and other dishes at a supplement if you wanted. We'd already paid enough I think. I did have a portion of carrots & peas for £5.00!! Crazy. Breakfast was good. The usual choice of cereals, juices, breads, fruit etc and the option for cooked breakfast. We tucked in. Yes when they brought the toast it was cold but we just cut the fresh bread on offer and had that, sorted. It was plenty of choice and good quality. Saturday morning was probably more relaxing, the cooked breakfast was made to order and brought to you. Sunday was the help yourself in the lounge which I'm not to keen on but it was totally adequate. The last thing I need to mention as I'm sure many others were and will do and the annoying thing is it is all unnecessary. Bearing in mind we had already paid upfront. A bill was left under the door Sunday morning so my husband picked it up and it was for £29.90. We had already worked out that we needed to pay around £10.00. £5 for the vegetables and the £15.30 for the drinks. Remember you get the £10 credit!! The bill stated 3rd course supplement £9, we didn't have 3 courses. The first receptionist was very unhelpful it was only when another lady appeared and I didn't take a note of her name did it all get resolved, she was very good and understanding. It should have been quite simple, no need for these mistakes. I would NEVER use express check out unless you really don't care about being made fools of. Not only is it the last impression you get of the hotel and service you have been given, it must make the receptionists jobs so much harder than it actually needs to be. There were 2 people in front of us querying their bills, it doesn't have to be that way get it sorted!! Would I stay here again, yes I would because actually it was a really nice break and we didn't have far to travel home. Just get the bills sorted before people check out and make sure the guests on the meal deal have at least another choice of mains on the second night. Easy!! There was another couple there getting married, the bride looked stunning by the way and what fabulous weather you had just like ours 14 years ago!!
Very disappointing, the look of hotel was outstanding, we were very exited when we walked in certainly had loads of character, we were shown to our table where we had lovely comfortable seats, the trouble here we were so far apart it was difficult to have a conversation that the other people didn’t have to listen too! Fortunately the other tables were soon vacant so we asked to be move into a corner where the seating was closer together and was told no! Asked why and was told it will take me 10 minutes to reorganise and I am busy! We had luke warm tea & coffee so when finished we asked for some hot drinks waiter told us we had had hot drinks the first time! Anyway the long and the sort of it is we would never go back
Had a very pleasant evening, for my wife’s work leaving function. This was only made excellent by the assistance of staff member: Stephanie Luckman. She organized the table perfectly and ensured that everyone’s needs was met throughout the night! Well done and thanks
