If I could mark this hotel with less I would. I went for a wedding and whist that was amazing, the service you received from the staff outside of the wedding was utterly disgraceful. The reception staff look constantly bored and walk through motions - these are the first people you meet and should be smiley and excited for your arrival. I explained that we were part of the wedding party but that our discount code didn't take and I was spoken too like I clearly didn't earn enough to be there if I wanted to use a discount code and that they only offer so many out (however people I spoke to who booked after me did get the discount) Before the wedding started I went to the small bar to the left of reception. I stood there for 3/4 mins whilst the barmaid busied herself behind it. I asked twice what white wine was on sale and she ignored me! Some other people came in and were served straight away, when a second barmaid arrived and I complained that I had been ignored the response was "oh I didn't see you there". My downstairs WC is bigger than this bar and I was the only one in there at the time!!! I was then charged £9 for a small glass of white wine! During the after wedding drinks we were ushered outside for photos and on several occasions the wind blew glasses straight off the table (some into the lap of guests), it took one of the ushers to go in for the 3rd time before anyone took it seriously and came to clear up the mess (although they still never bothered to clear up the empty glasses from the table. During the evening section of the wedding I asked a receptionist if she knew were I could leave a card as I'd forgotten to put it in the basket and the basket had been moved. Rather than getting the organiser for me she sent me away to look for "Paul", I didn't even know who Paul was and found her lack of desire to help awful. My hotel room was horrid (rm 215 but I'm sure they are all the same). The hot tap didn't work in the sink, there was black stuff around all the windows & shower and the wood around the bathroom door was peeling! I had a random kettle in the room which had no use seeing there wasn't any tea cups, milk or teabags! The next morning when I went to check out I WASN'T asked how my stay was, I was just told I had no outstanding balance on my account! I mentioned the top tap and asked what the random kettle was for in my room. The response I got was less than satisfactory, no apology just "oh thanks for bringing it to my attention I will get it all sorted before the next guests arrive". Well I'm so glad the next guests are a priority where I'm not. All this for £140 a night!!! Seriously I've spent less in some actual luxury hotels. Please don't waste your money!!!
I attended a small function from work for afternoon cream tea. The whole thing was awful. There were not enough scones for everyone to have one each (15) or us. The scones they served were rock hard, dry and some had a terrible bitter after taste. The sandwiches were all dry. They were all cross contaminated as four different fillings where then skewed together meaning those who where vegetarian couldn't eat them. We asked for a hot chocolate as an alternative for one person who doesn't drink tea or coffee to be told "No". Also a number of pieces of crockery had dirt on them. To sum up - afternoon tea - don't bother.
Amazing old building and lovely grounds. Rooms are lovely and clean and decent bed and bedding. Common areas are old world and perfectly functional and the lounge and dining room are just functional and lack atmosphere and style. Good to see a hotel that still cooks your breakfast to order however cooking the sausages would be a good addition. Basic and comfortable just not as special as it looks.
I suspect the this awarded some time ago as the current standards are no where near. I stayed for 1 night for business purposes so was after a basic no frills stay. Check in was delayed as the single staff member on reception was on the phone. So 3 guests were queued waiting. Surely another staff member could have assisted or offered a drink whilst waiting. Although we were apologised to. I am not a big fan of receptionists reading back personal details in earshot of other residents. My room was adequate and the bed comfortable for what I needed. Wifi is free albeit slow but this is likely to the building structure. The water is FREE just taking the bottle costs £5. If you read the note you will inderstand. Room service - this arrived after 40min and they had missed off part of the meal. Suffice to say not impressed and refused there offer to send down to the room as given my order I would have eaten the food no doubt. Breakfast is slow. They would be better suited having a help yourself coffee/tea facility. Opted for some cereals to start but stopped eating after 1 mouthful as I think the milk was off (semi not soy). I mentioned to a staff member who said she would go check but I never heard anything back. Cooked to order breakfast was taken before I had even been served coffee. It then took so long to arrive I needed to ask for more coffee before my breakfast was served. Full english with no sausage? Although what arrived was good. So many errors in such a short stay I am always of the opinion that 4* rating starts with customer experience not by adding in small extras to tick boxes to achieve something. Undecided on if I will stay again.
Small room, tired furniture, view of road, receptionist not smiley, pool very busy, gym good, waiter didn't pour wine or look after us, food very good, breakfast was busy but food very good, room service was prompt at first and then had to phone again to chase after waiting 40 mins for 2 drinks and cheese and biscuits, ridge on wall alongside table was dusty at breakfast and full of crumbs. Overall though it was a lovely stay.
Had one night due to going to see friend, room was not available before checking time my luck a bus arrived with Americans one lady kindly let me go in front of her. Room was comfortable, the hotel is very old but lovely, would I stay there again don't think so a bit expensive. My only complaint was breakfast was not until 8am as it was Saturday and being asked if I wanted tea or coffee took a seat sat for a few minutes asked for a menu and told it was a buffet, would have been nice to have been told this when taken to the table...... Breakfast was very good so my stay was pleasant.
I chose to come here for our wedding anniversary as I had stayed in their Aberfoyle (Loch Ard) hotel back in May and was really impressed. The location of his hotel is a little wierd being, as it is, in the middle of a (very nice) housing estate but the hotel does look impressive from the outside and the reception area. Be aware there are no lifts and some of the rooms are a bit of a walk from the reception. Our rooms (70 & 71) were quite a bit smaller than I had hoped and certainly smaller than those at Aberfoyle but were OK. We used the swimming pool which was lovely but we all found hair in the water. We ate in the restaurant which was very average. The chicken terrine starter had large lumps of gristle in it, the spinach (in garlic butter) had no garlic butter and the chips with my steak were flabby and oily and certainly not light, crispy and fluffy. The chocolate fondant was good though. Breakfast is served buffet style which meant, for me at least, that the cooked items were luke warm. They only had scrambled eggs in the chafing dish but you can ask for fried or poached. There was a good choice of other breakfasts which were all good. Overall we enjoyed our stay it just wasn't as good as I had hoped.
I came here for Afternoon tea to see friends who were staying here. The afternoon tea was tasty and I got to see their bedroom. It's a very traditional and spacious style. This place has a lot of character and was easy to get to. There's also parking onsite that's complimentary
Staying here was a very strange experience. It is listed as a four star hotel, but I've no idea how they managed to get that accolade. There is a baffling lack of cohesion, in so many senses; in terms of layout, service, fusion of old and new, etc. The rooms were clean, but basic and not as comfortable as other four star hotels. There is not a lot on offer for guests in the hotel - a large chunk of the downstairs space appears to be reserved for functions only, and what's left is limited. The spa is in a separate building, so forget wandering dreamily to your hot stone massage in your cosy bathrobe (indeed, forget the bathrobe, as we didn't get any!). The spa/ pool building appears to function more as a private members club and is not particularly comfortable for hotel guests. The treatment itself was reasonably good, not necessarily special. We made a last minute booking for a celebration and chose the hotel because of descriptions of the beautiful building and grounds. The old building is certainly beautiful, with a grand old staircase etc. But not enough is made of the period features - it is dark and musty and links clumsily and unimaginatively with the modern part of the building. Unless you have a room to the front, your bedroom window is likely to be looking over service access, car parks etc. The grounds are relatively small and back directly on to residential estates. There is no attempt made to develop interesting nooks and crannies or activities to entertain bored guests. Our few days were not a complete loss. The hotel is situated in relatively easy access to a range of family activities in the Bracknell area and we were out a lot. The food was nice, especially dinner, and the hotel made us an absolutely delicious celebration cake - that was lovely. The children enjoyed the pool (even as I sniffed disdainfully at the mould and cheap pool furniture!). I would describe this as a nice, if slightly unsure of itself, three star hotel. There is no way it belongs in the same category as some of our favourite four star hotels.
Stayed at this hotel for two nights with friends August 2017. It looks good from the outside but inside the rooms are dark and dingy. Our exec room was small, dark, dingy and in need of a re-ferb. The restaurant served a fantastic breakfast but with dinner everything apart from the basic meal was an extra. The reception rooms were bland and uninviting, you will not even see a guest newspaper to read. On the up side the spa was excellent with a warm clean pool, sauna and steam room. Clean changing rooms etc, very nice. The grounds are small and mostly for parking, although the front area looks good. All four of us would only rate this hotel a 3 star not 4 star. Apart from the pool there would be nothing to occupy children.
