My partner, a WorldMark member, booked us six nights at the Elkhorn Village Condos through Vacations International, VI, almost a year in advance. But when we got there and checked in we were told we were not in Elkhorn Village but in Indian Springs next door. Apparently VI treats them as one and the same, but they are vastly different, and we feel we were the victims of a bait and switch by VI. Elkhorn is newer and smarter looking; Indian Springs is old, tired and worn out. Things only got worse when we checked in to our room! We were in Unit # 2438 on the first floor. The kitchen was so small there was only room for one person to work in it at a time. The bathroom was also old and small. The carpet was filthy with large food stains on it. We didn't want to walk on it barefoot. A screen in the living room was broken, and it was obvious that it had been for some time but nothing had been done to replace it. But the worst was to follow! About 10 pm the residents above us arrived with a large dog! We were trying to sleep and were awakened. The dog romping and heavy steps continued for at least a half hour. We turned to ear plugs which were only slightly effected. But wait!!! It wasn't over. It got more awful when we could hear our neighbors above us going to the bathroom! And I don't mean just a flushing toilet which we've all heard many times. I mean, we could hear what they were doing! We awoke when the dog got up and began running around the room again. We called management and pleaded for another room. Please, transfer us to Elkhorn Village which is what we believed we had reserved almost a year ago? The agent said there was nothing available. We asked to talk to the manager, Jeff Knight. He was "unavailable." How convenient for him. There was nothing else they could offer us, and VI totally fell down for us. So we checked out, and we may lose the points we used to reserve what we thought was Elkhorn Village. Our advice: avoid Indian Springs at all costs. This was a disaster for us because we believe we were mislead.
We came for the eclipse and stayed a week. The penthouse condo was large and light, with three terraces, one covered. Located close to Sun Valley Resort and Ketchum. We rented a van but there is also a free bus between these places. Attended a ballet at the Sun Valley Shell-- magnificent with international stars. Including Misty Copeland. Used the large pool and hot tub on the resort property. Plenty of hiking and biking available. Great shops and restaurants in Ketchum. Not inexpensive. Kept teenagers occupied.
The office where you're supposed to check in doesn't stay open past 7 and is super hard to find. Cindy at the desk went over nothing with me, including where you're supposed to park. We ended up getting our car towed in the middle of the night and had to take the bus to Bellevue so we could pay some shady character $240(cash only) to get our car and bikes back. Furthermore, housekeeping (who did nothing the whole time we were there) left a note on our door telling us we should have been checked out already, etc. Totally ruined our vacation--no apologies from anyone, just got hung up on--such fabulous customer service--never again!!
The building: difficult to find, limited signage and lights at night. After hours call center not familiar with the complex layout and couldn't direct me to the building. The condo: standard, dark with thin walls and no toiletries as other reviewers stated. Could hear entire conversation upstairs. Unit was convenient to front door which is helpful with carrying in snowboarding equipment. No direct access to building from parking lot or garage - a bit of a hassle to unload luggage. The grounds: garage door fell off and was left hanging for 2 days. Cars couldn't get in or out resulting in overflowing parking lot. Popcorn which was spilled near entryway was also left for 2 days. After it was swept up, significant crumbs left on carpet. The hot tub: I got a bacterial infection on my skin after using the hot tub 2 days in a row (for a short/reasonable amount of time), a common problem with hot tubs that are poorly maintained/unclean.
We had a two bedroom condo unit with a loft (booked through flipkey). The place is very close to town (5 min drive). There is a pool, trails, etc. It was very beautiful with views of the mountains. For a family of five, this was a great option - so much more room (plus laundry, kitchen, deck) than a hotel room. Great value. There is no A/C but there are a few fans.
The other reviews you are reading are accurate. This place is dark, musty, no day light, the view is of a building wall, and to make matters worse, they would not turn on the fire place for at least some atmosphere. I booked for a week, and left after 4 nights. Too depressing. They of course don't give you a choice of rooms or tell you you have no view, so if you are a first time visitor you have no idea what you are paying for. Awful. Don't stay here.
Would Never ever come back to this resort ( definitely not a resort) This is not much better than a motel 6. Very dark even with blinds open. Dingy, small If you were at all over weight you would have a difficult time getting between bed and closet to your side of bed. Patio is only a sidewalk right net to another dirty building. the one focal point that looks great is the fireplace - was turned off and resort ??? would not turn on. No community Bar BQ any where close. Maybe a couple miles away.
Construction is of such poor quality you can hear every move the people in the condo above you make and every time they use the plumbing. The unit we had was dark even with the blinds open, but that was okay because the view outside was of another building. The bedroom was so small that there was hardly room to walk around the bed or access the closet. The "toiletries" provided consisted of two bars of Dial soap. Very disappointing. Completely turned me off of Sun Valley in general. Booked this place through hotels.com. Will never use them again either.
Great location just 3 miles from Ketchum. Very close to Dollar mountain ski lift. The property is very pretty. The parking garage is heated. The room was cozy with lodge type furnishings and a small kitchen. We enjoyed the fireplace and watching it snow. A very nice place to get away and relax. We didn't ski but I'm sure it was amazing with all the fresh powder.
This was booked through RCI on a points exchange. This is the first time in almost thirty years I have managed to get an exchange for Christmas week in a ski resort! The check in was at Tamarack Lodge in the town centre. There was a very pleasant and helpful man called Richard who gave very precise and helpful directions along with maps on how to get to the condo complex. It is about 5 minutes drive outside of the town centre. A 2 person unit with ample space and utensils in the kitchen. The separate bedroom has a large comfortable bed. Nice bathroom with a good shower. There is a stone fireplace with a simple on/off gas fire. Nice touch. The complex itself is a little run down. Parking is in an underground heated car park and included. There was obviously a store/market and post office on site at one time but it is closed and empty. There was also a restaurant which is also closed and shuttered. The pool is closed in winter but the hot tub is open from 2pm to 10 pm each day. A free shuttle bus runs from the condo's to the River Run base ski area every 30 minutes or so.
