En route from St Pancras to Switzerland and an overnight stay. An old building nicely updated so a 'quaint' and individual interior layout; nevertheless a good quality refurbishment with a good size bathroom, comfortable bed etc. Good standard of breakfast. Good solid value for a midrange hotel and well placed for restaurants and a short walk to Petit France
I stayed here one night in August 2017 as part of a GRJ escorted tour. My room was cramped and tired. The only place I could open my suitcase was either the floor or bed. The bathroom, whilst well appointed, was showing its age. There was a lighting panel above the bed which allowed control of all the room lights from one central place. Seems like a good idea, but if waking in the night to use the bathroom it was easy to uncesassarily fully illuminate the whole room. My window view was over the atrium, and opposite one of the lifts with its glass side. I therefore had thick net, almost cloth, curtains over my windows to provide privacy, as well as a sliding door, rather than a blind or curtain, to block out the daylight. Curious. Breakfast was a shambles, and you could easily have walked in off the street and eaten for free. The tour comprised of British people and they had run out of English Breakfast Tea! The cooked food was underdone, with the sausages looking raw and the bacon chewy. The layout of the breakfast room was illogical, with nothing near where you would expect it, e.g toaster nowhere near the butter or marmalade/jams. The seats in the lobby were well worn, and even the display cabinets, showing their wares for sale, did not match, The lobby gents toilet had a roller towel, something I've not seen anywhere in years. This is definitely not 4 star standard, I have stayed in many much better 2 star hotels or B&B's. Mercure, you should be doing much, much better.
Very warm welcome , our room was very spacious and cool as 33 degrees outside Great location as opposite the train station , our room was at the front and hardly any noise after ten at night Bed was very comfy , room very clean , tea , coffee and water supplied in the room Breakfast was of high quality, best strawberries I've eaten this year even chocolates Reception and bar staff pleasant and helpful Would highly recommend this hotel
Stayed here one night as part of a group. Location of hotel is excellent for the train station. The room was adequate if somewhat compact. ( Hence the 2 stars ). HOWEVER, There was a total lack of management at breakfast time. A number of problems were clearly visible :- 1. The size of the breakfast room is totally inadequate for the size of the hotel. 2. There was no management to control the number of people entering the breakfast room ( it would have been very easy to walk in off the street and get a free breakfast ! ). 3. Our group were allocated a set time of 8.00 am to arrive for breakfast, however, it would appear that an earlier group of Chinese ( I think ), were running late because the breakfast room was virtually full with just a couple of empty tables piled high with dirty crockery etc. There were 2 waiting staff who were totally run off their feet and working extremely hard to clean the tables and replenish the food etc. BUT their task was impossible. To me : a manager should have been at the door and apologised for the earlier group running late, asked us to wait a short while whilst they got them out, cleaned up and replenished the food. Perhaps offer us a cup of coffee or fruit juice whilst we waited. This didn't happen and the result was chaos in the breakfast room, for example : there were no glasses for the fruit juice, no water in the coffee machine and the supply of food was totally inadequate.
Dear Mercure staff at Strasbourg gare Mercure, Thank you for your hospitality and the nice room that you provided for us last weekend! As always, Acco/Mercure hotels made the trip more special for my wife and me.
Welcoming hotel of a reasonable standard situated close to the station. Good but expensive breakfast but probably standard rate these days. Room was comfortable enough and quiet. Perhaps lacking a bit in personality as a standard chain hotel.
In my view Mercure Centre Gare is one of the weakest hotels in the Mercure chain in Strasbourg. The rooms are old, most of them are really small. The service is poor, for example not fridge in the room. Definitely not a 4 stars experience. Please be noted that there is an other Mercure 50 meters from this hotel, it is much better than this one.
Stopped at this hotel overnight while on a train journey to Switzerland. It's the 2nd time we have stayed here, unfortunately, not booked by me. Rooms are acceptable, clean and serviceable for a night but on this visit the staff let the place down. I accept that, as I am not good with languages I am partly to blame, but in a city like Strasbourg, home of the European Parliament, most people in hospitality are good with languages. The staff at this hotel did not understand a request for dry martini & lemonade from my wife. I requested an Armagnac, no idea what I meant. Petty reason I know to mark them down but it's just my opinion.
This is a typical large chain hotel. The rooms are clean, comfortable with everything you would normally expect, the food (breakfast) is good, tasty with the normal range of offerings, but the bar prices (5 Euro for a bottle of beer) are expensive. The hotel is conveniently located on the opposite side of the square from the main railway station and is a 10 minute walk from the centre of town.
Coming from the station, this hotel is not far at all. Welcome with a hot wine or hot fruit juice to celebrate this magic period of christmas. Possibility to buy a few specialities from Alsace at the hotel.
