The Westin St. John Villas

4.5 out of 5.0

Small villa (loft) with a big price. Hotel adds a resort charge per day of $40.00. Pre booked and prepaid through Orbitz, ended up shelling more money at end of stay. Concierge hard sell for timeshare throughout stay, unfriendly when declined offer. Whole resort is moving to timeshare model. Concierge botched most of his job, booked a nonexistent scuba charter, wrong date for dinner reservations and misrepresented a timeshare tour. Other staff very nice and accommodating. Renovation underway on large portions of property. Nice pool. Food at waterfront is okay, at main restaurant very good. Harbor is pretty, but concerned about water quality to swim in, especially after heavy rain. Avoid the onsite car rental. Rented Jeep. Had a flat and tools rusted to point of useless. Then charged 75.00 for kids leaving snack wrappers in back. Island is beautiful and water is among the best in world. Sailing, power boating and snorkeling are a must. Just don't need this resort to do it.

Hotel was nice with good amenities and location. Staff was okay.

Due to our own oversight with a passport expiring, we had to make a last minute change from a previously booked vacation as such we had no time to research resorts in USVI. We booked this tripped which was to include Lower hillside Unit. It turns out we were given a unit at the very top of the hill. A very steep hill. to get down to the pool and beach without getting an intense work out the staff would pick you up in golf carts and drive you done to the main area. Once there the pool was nice but the beach wasn't truly a beach it was part of a small bay, and had more accumulated seaweed than desired. For this trip it was vital to rent a jeep and drive to beaches along the north shore. Which added costs and then required family planning took away luxury. The island was interesting with wildlife and sugar plantation ruins and the people extremely friendly but the Westin is not the place for those wanting to take a short walk out of their units directly to the beautiful blue Caribbean.

Loved my stay here, I went with my wife and another couple. We decided to leave the kids home. The location was great, near everything you would ever need. Rented a jeep to go beach hopping. There were families at the hotel. No issues, no crazy partying going on. Very relaxing atmosphere. Iguanas and all over the place. Not a nuisance. I will return as soon as I can financially.

First floor walk out on to the beach. Unbeatable views of the bay & sunsets. Staff friendly and helpful. Was undergoing some construction (offseason), but this was not a problem at all (no noise, etc). My wife and I are absolutely going back and requesting the same room.

Had a wonderful, relaxing time at the Westin. Wonderful service and helpful, friendly staff. Loved the pool with its resident lizards. Loved the calm beach with swooping pelicans. All in all, a very peaceful, beautiful stay.

This hotel is in a beautiful spot on the island. It has great amenities and the staff are very happy and helpful. We had a great, romantic vacation.

fantastic. more food options will be even better. just great. highly recommend!

The non smoker resort ( don't tell anybody) who sell smoking room with sea view on the beach but without a balcony) Congratulations to the smily desk clerk , who tell you that she will change your room tomorrow but never call you back.

While construction is an on- going issue, it never bothered us. When all is done this will be an absolutely stunning resort. They do need to work on training their staff to be more welcoming. Everyone we encountered in the offices, stores and restaurants was very nice, but when you were "out and about" on the grounds it was rare for anyone to even make eye contact, let alone acknowledge you. Also, VERY expensive.

This was our second trip to Westin St. John. It is a perfect place to stay and use as a base for exploring the island. Rooms are air conditioned (not always the case on St. John), clean, and free of bugs, lizards, etc. The bed is luxurious. We did not use the beach or pool at the Westin because access to the incredible North Shore beaches is approximately a 10-15 minute drive. Cruz Bay Watersports trips to the BVI leave from the Hotel Marina which makes using their service very easy. They were also great to travel with. We rent a car at the St. Thomas Airport. Drive across St. Thomas and ferry the car to St. John so that we have independent access while on island. I would highly recommend that any guest at the Westin consider having a vehicle since the hotel is located a little distance from town and other areas of interest. The beach at the Westin is best considered an "activity" beach because of the water sports that are offered there. It is not a good snorkeling or clear swimming beach. Travel to the North shore for the best water.

Beautiful location, the rooms were clean and comfortable, the stuff was alway ready to help us and ALWAYS, ALWAYS smiling and cheerfull. We're planning a second trip there for the winter!

We chose this hotel because we needed good internet for an online business meeting taking place during our vacation, and although we needed to use the landline for communication for part of the meeting it went well. We practically stepped out onto the beach from our room. It was almost as if we had the beach to ourselves. All staff was friendly, helpful and interesting. It's beautiful there and we were able to do everything we wanted to. The hotel cab service was a little confusing to us but everything worked out well. Again it was a very gorgeous place with wonderful weather and we would stay there again if we were so lucky to be able to visit.

Everything was top notch - exceeded my expectations

well the island was really gorgeous definitely plan on returning to the usvi!

Everything was perfect. Remodel was amazing. New pool was beautiful!

The villas are very nice and spacious, on top of a small hill. I believe the second and third floor villas have ocean views. Ours was on the first floor so no ocean view, but it was very quiet and we rarely hear people coming and going. Good for people traveling with family. Staff are overall friendly and helpful at the hotel. We didn't get to enjoy the pool because of the construction. I hear it is near completion though. This Westin is at a good location. The ocean is right there. Easy drive into town and the north shore beaches.

The staff is lovely, especially security. I was disappointed that the staff and or management did not manage the trash that was left outside the villa rooms thru out the day and evening. When we awoke each day, a cat or other animal had started eating the trash and it was a mess all day.

It was under renovation and you need much more time than a few days to really enjoy the place.. I felt some of the staff were impatient. Either put on your walking shoes or you need to be island "patient" .

BOOKED THIS RESORT LAST MINUTE, LIKE THE DAY BEFORE. THERE IS CONSTRUCTION GOING ON AT THE RESORT SO THE POOL IS CLOSED,BUT THE BEACH IS OPEN,THE WEEK BEFORE THAT WAS ALSO CLOSED DO TO GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN.FOOD IS VERY GOOD BUT EXPENSIVE. MANGO DELI IS ON THE PROPERTY AND IS GREAT. THERE IS GROCERY STORE RIGHT OUTSIDE THE RESORT AS A ALTERNATIVE. FERRY DOCK IS AT THE RESORT SO IT'S VERY NICE , SPECIALLY IF YOU GOING DIVING, WATER SPORTS STAFF IS WONDERFUL ,HIGLY RECOMMENDED. THE REASON I GAVE 3 STARS FOR THE RESORT STAFF IS BECAUSE THEY ARE VERY SLOW AND IT TAKES THEM LONG TIME TO RECOGNIZE THAT YOU ARE STANDING OR SITTING AT THE BAR WITHOUT ANY ONE ELSE BEING THERE, AND THAT REPEAD IT SELF EVERY DAY. MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO A ISLAND TOUR WITH JAMES PENN ENTERPRISES ,HIS THE BEST. LEAVE'S FROM THE RESORT.
