I enjoyed everything about this hotel; the attentive staff, nice room, excellent breakfast and location on the Moika river. The Hermitage is a stone's throw away; the Church on Spilled Blood a short walk away, and Nevsky Prospect also. The housekeeping was faultless.
Most hotels and or hotel chains claim to " go that extra mile " and very rarely, if ever, actually perform This was hotel which was literally 5 Star in every department The staff, service, food concierge, room and ambiance were first class throughout our stay Particular praise for Yeroslavna, Sommelier and Breakfast Room Service Manager The hotel was faultless Beautiful room Most comfortable bed Excellent room service We dined in the roof top,Brasserie. Super views of the Skyline of St Petersburg Fine dining with excellent food We found that in St Petersburg, no hotel or restaurant offer half bottles of Russian Wine We were told that there is no such Russian production The only half bottles offered , were from France or Italy Would we return to this hotel, absolutely
Walk across a bridge and you are in the Palace Square next to the Hermitage museum. You can walk to the Cathedral of the Spilt Blood, St Isaac's Cathedral and along the river. It is surrounded by restaurants, bars and shops and it's a great place to wander around. The room was large but let down by a very uncomfortable bed. We rolled together and after asking 2 days in a row we finally got a bed board placed under the mattress. The bathroom was compact. The shower was over the bath (which was difficult to get into) and because there was no shower screen/curtain water flooded the toilet and floor and saturated the bath mat. Breakfast service was slow and the layout disjointed. You had to collect your juice at a station outside. We did enjoy the Wine Cellar 1853 which had good service, food and drinks. At a property that purports to be 5 star I found it disconcerting to see "working girls" have so much free access and to be able to proposition men at the bar but maybe this is a Russian custom.
Although the staff is friendly, this hotel is not a real upscale hotel. The rooms are very OLD and maintenance is at its lowest. I had to call the A/C technician twice in order to fix the ventilation system. The rooms are not attractive and not comfortable. For this price , you deserve better. Kempinski is not what it used to be.
Perfect location for the Hermitage, just across the square within easy walking distance. The only downside, during the day the square is totally flooded with tourist coaches not surprising given the place. The Hotel, apart from its perfect location, was spacious and very comfortable. Rooms, ours were on the 8th floor with a direct view of the Cathedral of the Spilt Blood, a magnificant sight to wake up to particularly when bathed in early morning sunlight. One has to remember that there are only few hours of darkness in the summer months, the sun poured into our rooms at 3 in the morning so make sure you keep your curtains drawn if you want a lie in. Breakfast was ample again but somewhat chaotic. I don't think the staff were accustomed to so many tour groups at the same time, it was a bit of a free for all, nevertheless a good spread with cooked menu if required. Our last evening was spent in their top floor restaurant, views over the city were stunning, mostly uninterrupted by roofs. The menu was fit for a King/Queen sorry Tzar in this case President. Their pudding stole the scene, called the 'Ermitage' a dark chocolate globe covered with icing sugar filled with a thick tasty panacotta, milk chocolate mousse and cream Russian style, very rich. Its only downfall, staff were a little out of their depth the quality of the meal was not complemented by the staff in particular the Maitre'D not with it at all, needs severe training. Did it spoilt our overall experience? No. Are we likely to return? No. Don't let that put you off, you couldn't find a better hotel so close to the Hermitage.
This is like other Kempinksi hotels, great staff, nice rooms and good location. The hotel is right next to the Hermitage palace and just a 5 minute walk to Nevsky Prospekt. Because it is not on the main road it is quieter. The main historic sites are all within walking distance. The Mariinsky Theater is 30 minutes by foot. The buffet breakfast is very good, great healthy and vegetarian options. Good options for kids too, like pancakes. The room was very nice, great view of the Hermitage. We booked the Deluxe room which was surprisingly very spacious. They put in an extra bed for my 7 year old and there was still plenty of space to walk around and relax. There is an ATM machine onsite. The bar is a good option for food when you're in a hurry. The only thing missing is a coffee maker in the room so if you want a coffee you need to go through the bar or room service. There is a cafe right next door that does take away, which is a good alternative, especially when you're on the go. The Wifi is free and fast. There is a good size safe in the room that can hold laptops, ipads etc. Lockboxes are available at the front desk, but most are narrow, not big enough for computers. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We had trouble with the safe and they fixed it right away. The hotel gives free water bottles every day, which is nice to take sightseeing. Overall this is a great hotel in an excellent location.
I have just been there. The best point is location. It is located so close to hermitage and nevsky street and many historical and touristical places. Many restaurants are around it. Aslo gallerya shopping center is about 30min walking. Has a good tempered door keeper. Old but beautiful hotel .rooms are very small but also very clean. No tea maker and iron in the room. You have to request them. Good breakfast. Very fast check in and check out. Totally I recommend this hotel
My friend and I ate here at the rooftop restaurant on our first night in St Petersburg. We wanted to choose somewhere a bit special to kick off our holiday and this couldn't have been better. The rooftop restaurant has fabulous views out over St Petersburg, including the Winter Palace and the fabulous Church of the Spilled Blood. The restaurant is under glass which allows the views but keeps the evening chill out. There was decking out from the restaurant where you could see nearly 360 degrees! The evening was a great success from the initial gin and tonic (huge) while we chose our meal, to the food itself, the wine and the pleasant and helpful staff there. It was just the perfect first night in Russia. Not cheap, but unforgettable! Highly recommended.
The best thing about the hotel is it's location, right on a canal and overlooking the Hermitage museum. The room we had was a suite. The room was fine, not great, but the bathroom was small. We changed room from the one allocated as the bathroom didn't have a separate shower, it had no character and it was pretty dark. The 2nd room did have a separate shower, but was still pretty small for a 5 star hotel. One sink, very little shelf space to put things and a fairly small shower cubicle. Really only one person at a time bathroom. The breakfast was good, with service varying from excellent to poor. The concierge ladies were very good, giving good advice and providing all the services asked for. There is a smallish but good roof top deck, off the spa , which is not advertised at all. The beds were comfortable with good bedlinen, and the towels in the bathroom were a decent size, and plenty of them.
