The best thing about this hotel is its prime location. It is close to everything: Hermitage is just a short walk away. The room is small but neat and clean. No frills at all: forget about pool, hot tub, fridge and microwave in the room. But truth to be told the hotel never advertised these so I knew very well what to expect and my expectations were met. There are lots of complaints regarding breakfast that for some does not look good but for my wife and myself it was good enough. There are plenty of other options just around the corner including reasonably priced French restaurant and inexpensive Georgian joint. As for the noise which seems to be another major source of complaints - we stayed in unit 402 and it was not a problem. Internet connection as duly noted by many works very well. I would not say the service is poor but it could have been better. E.g. I can't understand why my request to book a taxi when we were checking out was not fulfilled. Unfortunately I could not use mobile applications such as Yandex Taxi since I do not own Russian cell phone number and I was hoping for the help from the young lady at the reception desk but did not get any. Despite this, my overall impression is very positive, and my wife and I will make sure to book this hotel should we decide to visit St. Petersburg in the future.
Perfect location - 3 blocks to Hermitage, Admiralty, Nevsky Prospect. Tons of restaurants within walking distance. Staff speaks very good English and are very helpful. Car service to/from airport is great. Rooms are basic but very clean. Plenty of hot water and great water pressure in the shower. Coffee, tea, biscuits and filtered water available 24/7. Beds super comfy and double glazed windows so fairly quiet for a city hotel. Free breakfast is uninspired at best.
Herzen house is a good small hotel. So central. There is a nice breakfast buffet. it changes daily. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful. The only complaint the rooms are very small. tea and coffee available all day.
I could not have asked for a better place to stay in St. Petersburg for the price I paid. We were well received by lovely Irina who went out of her way to make us comfortable. We were given electronic cards for entry into the hotel and passage leading to the rooms. On the table in our room was our national flag along with that of Russia . We were touched . There were chocolates too, a souvenier and a welcoming letter. The breakfast may not be the Tsar's breakfast but it was substantial and there was tea/coffee with cookies 24x7.The size of the room was ok and bathroom was clean. The location is walking distance from the Hermitage and St. Issac's cathedral is down the road. Very good cheap-eats and mid-range restaurants , super markets were within walking distance. You save on taxi-fare because everything is close by. Victoria( hope i got your name correct) took the trouble to download a map to point out the shops where I could buy amber. The entrance is nondescript , therefore you have to be very careful not to miss it. It occupies the entire fourth floor of an old building. There is an ATM on the ground floor. But what made my stay super was the box of chocolates I received on my birthday thanks to Irina. Her hospitality was refined and caring. It was value for money !!
The hotel is located at the center of St.Peterburg, half a mile from Isaac cathedral, Admiralteystvo and Palace Square w/Hermitage historical places. Lot of small shops, cafes, restaurants are easy to reach in a minute. Metro/subway station is about 500ft away. Hotel is 4th floor of old-style house, renovated and sectioned by walls to make a number of rooms. Staff is quite friendly and does good service, no negative remarks to make. Complimentary bar of chocolate was really nice to see on table when arrived. Room facilities are standard, tv, phone, AC (doesn't work during wintertime); shower, fan. However, no safe box and fridge (if that matters for someone). Room is cleaned daily, towels and bedsheets are changed over three days or by request. WiFi is free of charge, speed is ~20mbps, enough for surfing, skype, etc. Door locks and interior passages are opened by electronic card.
We stayed in the hotel from 18 to 20 Sept in superior room. As soon as we checked in we've realised the shower was broken ( actually it was a flood in the bathroom), then we have to wait for another room, so we left the hotel and came back about 10 pm ( btw the arrival time was 9 am). Due to that issue I asked the receptionists to extend the hours for checkout, but unfortunately they made up so many reasons to say no. The hotel wasn't fully booked it was a lot of available rooms ( I've checked through the website), but the receptionist continued to argue that they don't have rooms or they couldn't change the checkout hours for us or we have to pay for that. The only fair way to solve that issue it would be refund money for unused hours as you didn't provide the service for what I paid. BTW the breakfast wasn't good at all ( poor variety and quality of food).
I'm travelling a lot but I have never met so wonderful stuff. OMG! Have no words :) Special thanks to Irina. Thank you so much for such nice stay! Add it to central location so , clean and very equipated makes it a perfect recommendation.
This whole floor hotel is well located and has very friendly and well trained staff. The rooms are comfortable. The breakfast is very good because all products are fresh and well chosen. The only inconvenience comes from the magnetic card that we have to use all the time to go the breakfast room, to enter the building etc.
I'm giving this 4 stars for cleanliness, comfortable beds, amazing location near many key sites, friendly staff and for some "nice touches" like inexpensive laundry service ($18 for 20 items!) and 24 hour tea/coffee/cookies. It is not a luxury hotel to be clear nor is it priced that way either. There are multiple excellent restaurants close by including Jerome's and the Georgian Cafe among others. There is a grocery across the street with fruit, meats, cheeses etc. everything you need for a picnic lunch. ATM in lobby. On the downside, street noise was bad in the morning (it is in the city center - not sure if windows could have been more soundproof or not) and they need to have better sun-blocking shades in the room than the Venetian blinds. The combination of light coming in the room at about 4:45 am and the noise resulted in some early morning get-me-ups.
As said before the location is unbeatable, very central. Also the staff was very friendly. The room (standard) was pretty small and a bit older with an unpleasant smell, but very clean. The window faced the courtyard, which didn't reduce the noise level with open windows, as trash was being dumped in the mornings and people spoke loudly. It should be ok with closed windows. Main annoyance though: the early sunrise and no way to darken the room. We ended up hanging the coverlets over the windows. Very simple breakfast, not much recommended.
