Nice small hotel nice staff great views rooms clean grounds well kept close to nice restaurants

Captain Olivers is definitely in need of some updating. That being said we paid a very reasonable rate & the staff was wonderful & accommodating; they went out of their way to be sure we were comfortable. If you don't need luxury; it's worth the stay

relaxing and enjoyable. close to everything on the island.

I only booked this hotel because it said it had a hotel shuttle. I was traveling alone as a single female and I was arriving late at night. I ended up getting a taxi for $80 to the hotel RT. It was neat. the view on the balcony was awesome. I could feel the Ocean mist from my room. ~30 mins from the airport. For the $, I could avve stayed closer to the airport for about the same price when you factor in the taxi. I was starving when I arrived at the hotel and every where was dark. Was to scared to walk outside alone to find food.

After reading reviews and newspaper reports of estate law suits... we did not have any great expectations... and we were not disappointed. The whole complex has been let go, I guess no one wants to put the investment into it. That being said the location is wonderful. The kitchen was old and fridge had an old rusted paddlelock that scraped along the tile floor. Only water to come out of shower was on held held and trickled out. Needed extreme strength to open the slider door to deck... but once out there it was like a quiet piece of heaven. Would love to return but will never do so until the lawsuits are settled and someone decides to care about the property!!

I don't like to leave Negative, I usually just don't say anything But you asked. The room was supposed to have Direct calling - actually there was NO phone at all. My room was also supposed to have SATELLITE TV - it had only regular TV, not even cable and it was disabled from 2a-6a both nights that we stay. The Free WELCOME DRINKS that were advertised were billed to my credit card. So No it was not a Happy experience.

This hotel is located right off the docks. The ambiance was very nice. Parking was very difficult especially when the water taxi is departing that morning. I guess that's to be expected on such a tiny island. The location is just next to the dutch/french border. Its on the eastern side of the island away from the airport and most of the tourists.

The staff was friendly. The accomodations were basic but clean. Nice ocean view from the pool, but no beach. It is in a neighborhood area so you can walk around without a lot of traffic. You can also walk around the marina. Several bar and restaurants located close by.

I loved my room. It was very pleasing. The bars and restaurants are in a different country so they can't do room charges. Yet they don't even take credit cards. I've always said that a nice thing about a resort is that you can go to the pool or beach and not have to carry money. Well, forget that here. Cash is king. And there is no ATM on site. The happy hour at the Iguana Bar is a very good deal. The nearby restaurant is pricey, consistent with prices in the area. But there are other restaurants and bars on the property that rent the space and are independently owned, so they can have their own pricing and specials. It pays to check out all the options. I enjoyed the novelty of the "pour your own" happy hour at the Dinghy Bar. Wi-fi was non-existent outside the lobby for the first three days and the staff said that there was nothing they could do. Then, on day four, it was working fine in my room. Someone fixed something, in spite of the denials by the staff. When I went for breakfast the first morning, one employee said that the bread and coffee was free for guests at the hotel. Then, after the fact, a different one charged me for this and it doubled the cost of the omelet that I ordered. I didn't go back. The shampoo in my room made my hair feel like straw. The "beach" was a dock where you could jump into deep water. All in all, this place would have been a fair deal at 80% of what I paid.

The hotel is very convenient to Moorings base. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The room was spacious. Bathroom was clean...the facilities could use some updating, but nothing was bad. The restaurant was not as good as the little bar down the pier...not clear what they aim for with it.

Nice pool, great restaurant with reasonable prices and good food. Small beach, but private and good snorkeling. Market nearby, but not much shopping.

Capt Oiver's is a great value hotel that provides a great location for those that prefer the east side of SMX and are renting a car. It is a small hotel with a nice, relaxed marina atmosphere. The restaurant has good dining situated along the mariana dock, but the wait staff have the typical caribbean, laissez-faire service. My room was clean and quiet. SMX currently has significant road construction near the west side of Philipsburg, so traffic along the south side of the island was heavily jammed both on my way to the hotel and back to the airport. In my long weekend trip, I was content to be on the east side beaches for the duration and avoided the traffic concern. From the hotel, it is a short drive north to Baje Orientale or south to Philipsburg. For me, it was great mid-point location for a great price.

Very friendly service, good restaurant with good music to dance ( was Saturday night). the bedroom was clean but just 3 stars class ..

This hotel advertises itself at 4 star, but it's really 1 or 2 star. The entire facility is way overdue for a complete renovation. Everything is showing wear and tear. The best thing it has going is its location at the Oyster Pond Marina. If you're chartering a boat, it is very convenient, and only steps away from the docks. The pool is nice and the staff is friendly enough- just the rooms need a complete re-do. I can't imagine staying more than 1 or 2 nights.

We stayed here 1 night prior to departing on a Moorings sail. The bathrooms are very old, small and have never been renovated. Service is bland if not non existant. Pool furniture is in need of replacement. This is simply not a 4 star resort. I'd be generous in giving them a 2 AAA star rating.

A great place to stay the week. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Atmosphere for a cozy getaway. Interent only available in lobby is only drawback to great week. Several french resturants available. All we attended was good.

Vary good staff. We thought that breakfast came with our stay acording to [...]. We where told that SuperSaver did not come with breakfast. Yet the first day they said to go ahead and have breakfast on them. Vary nice of them. [...]

Rooms were great with a nice view! However the "bars and restaurants" claimed by the resort were lackluster and were kinda disappointing.
