-lovely location near the sea. We booked a room with balcony at the sea side and had a very nice sea view. -staff is very friendly -quiet hotel -the architecture : the hotel was built in 1965 and designed by the architect Ante Rožić, in a specific Adriatic style. The interior was designed by a Croatian architect and decorated by Croation artists. It results in a very unique atmosphere. At first sight, some people might call it ‘dated’, but if you give it a chance, you will soon notice how much more beautiful it is than the ‘cheaply renovated’ interior of some of the other hotels.
I have nothing positive to say about this place. The hotel is extremely dated, furniture is old and ratty. They claim to be "retro" but it is a far cry from "retro cool". The hotel was built in the 60s and has literally not been touched since. From the start, we were not made to feel welcome. Upon arrival we were not shown to our rooms or helped with our luggage. No map of the area was provided and facilities not explained. We had booked a Sea View Room 3 months prior as we wanted our stay in Brela to be special and memorable as we were celebrating our 2 year anniversary. Due to "technical difficulties" we were given a Park View Room. The room had a view of the parking lot. And from what I could see all the Sea View Rooms were occupied so we were left extremely disappointed. Room had no shower, only a bath. When I asked to change rooms to one with a shower I was told all rooms were like that. Whether that is true or not I have no idea. The restaurant area was like stepping into an episode of Love Boat, I have never seen anything like it. Hotel staff were not friendly and unhelpful which made for an uncomfortable stay. In summary, I will not be staying at this hotel ever again and will never recommend this to others. There are loads of other places right on the beach which are a hundred times better.
What I didn't liked: - a lot of noise from the industrial A/C or ventilation machine placed near the hotel; we were forced to sleep with the windows closed, but the noise was still present - very old furniture and windows, some 30-40 years old, in need of repair - barely working A/C unit, blowing the air over the bed - cigarette smell coming from nearby rooms - no accesible sockets near the bed (for charging the phone or laptop) - no A/C on the hallways or lobby - they keep a lot of windows opened all day to compensate - the A/C units in the restaurant were stopped - you must use the same fixed table at breakfast during the entire stay - fixed selection for breakfast menu - nobody informs you at arrival about hotel facilities (swimming pool, bar, minigolf etc.) - the hotel dosen't have a reserved area on the beach, so you have to go early to hunt for a free spot, as the beach gets very crowded after 10:00 o'clock; the sunlouges can be rented, but they are quite expensive - crowded parking place, improvised alongside the road leading to the hotel; there are less parking places than hotel rooms - the hotel is close but not right on the beach - you have to climb a lot of stairs through the garden to get to the hotel from the beach What I liked: - nice classical hotel close to the beach, surrounded by trees and a nice garden - clean room and bathroom - nicely decorated room and lobby - large lobby and restaurant - beutifull beach in front of the hotel (small pebbles, shaded by pinetrees, very clean water)
We where there 14 days and had the most fantastic holiday. Combined sunny day at the pool/beach with nice excursions and hiking in the mountain. The hotel staff where very nice, clean room with a spectacular view and great food. The only thing we lacked was a kettle to make coffe and the in the room. We would like to return to Maestral some times. :-)
The hotel is clean,, it's like bring back my childhood memories ( still old style), I mean like the elevator, furnitures, etc... The bed, it's difficult for us to sleep in,, didn't feel comfortable, unless you are really exhausted.. Breakfast choices not to good, everything is so-so.. But, the service were prety nice... The view is outstanding, luckily they have the beach... More than that,,, the room rate were same like 5 star hotel we've been in previous week...
Clean, a little noise, poor restaurant, no facilities on the beach. Expensive if we consider the facilities what they offer. Not to many thinks to do in the neighborhood. All the restaurants and bars are extremely expensive. You have to pay extra for umbrella and beach chair.
This hotel would have been amazing about 30years ago, it's tired dated and not cool enough to be retro. On the plus side it was cheap, clean with decent size room and the lady on reception was lovely. Our room had a side view to the sea which was nice and you could wonder down to the beach which was lovely. The whole hotel however is very much geared up towards the German visitors and unlucky if you're anything else! So much so you have no choice but to sit at the same table for dinner and breakfast even when there are lots of free tables as they are "reserved" for those who ate there at the previous meal (regardless of the fact they may well have already been and gone in the present sitting!) Small things such as the brisk manner of the 'manager' regarding the inability to pay in Euros. Booking via Expedia show what you owe to pay direct to the hotel in Euros...so naturally you'd assume you could pay in Euros and accordingly bring the correct cash. Apparently not, the manager kindly barked 'in Croatia you pay in Kunas' we would totally understand this if we hadn't just stayed at a self catering apartment in Dubrovnik (not a huge chain hotel!) where they too accepted Euros as per the amount specified on Expedia paperwork. No, it was not the end of the world as we had a credit card but the attitude of the manager was not what we'd have expected, also making the receptionist feel awkward. The only other thing to note is the bathrooms stink of drains, whether it's cos the rooms aren't used often enough who knows but they certainly aren't nice. Leaving the fan on all night is the best way to dilute the stench. Breakfast was poor, dinner was fine but nothing to write home about. Decent for a pit stop but not much more. Glad o say we don't need to return.
Perfect roo with a view over the see from the balcony. A very good breakfast with a lot of choices. Good dinners. Execlent service in the restaurant an the hotel as a whole. Close to the beach, evern if the stairs can be tiresome in the afternoon.
Perfect place with the ideal sandy beach. This season is not a beach well prepared, and the entrance into the sea a little problematic. The coffee and food at a decent level. In general there is space for improvement.
There is only one way to describe our stay at this charming hotel set in beautiful surroundings, fantastic !!! My wife and I returned to this hotel to celebrate my wife's 50th Birthday having spent our Honeymoon there in August 1987. It was a very special occasion for us and one that, thanks to the outstanding service provided by all the hotel staff, we will never forget. The service started from the moment we arrived. The receptionist was friendly and efficient, our room was ready even though we were a little early and she ran through everything for us with a smile. Our room was clean and well appointed and the sea view was spectacular. I emailed the hotel just before we arrived to request a birthday cake for my wife for the second day of our visit. The hotel manager promptly responded and made the necessary arrangements for me. The following evening as we arrived for our evening meal my wife was surprised with a beautiful display of flowers, a bottle of Champagne and at the end of our meal she was presented with a huge chocolate birthday cake. The Hotel Maestral really did us proud. The restaurant food was excellent throughout our visit with a good variety of well prepared and well presented dishes. My wife and I travel all over the world and stay in hotels of qualities from across the whole spectrum. I can honestly say that the service that we received at this hotel was up there with the best. All the staff around the hotel were pleasant and friendly which really added the overall holiday experience. The restaurant staff were probably the best we have experienced anywhere in the world, they were all extremely attentive without being intrusive, getting the balance spot on. Our special thanks go to the restaurant manager and the head waiter, Vedran, both really made us feel welcome and looked after us throughout our visit. Some of the report about this hotel say it is dated and in need of updating. The hotel is probably one of the oldest in the Brela area but this hotels quality is in its charm and character. It is clean, well appointed and very well staffed making it a first choice for us. The area of Brela has outstanding beauty with stunning scenery and crystal clear sea water. The beach does get busy at peak times but we always managed to get a nice spot. All in all a perfect holiday and we will without a doubt be returning in the near future.
