People advertise this place as something it isn't. They show pictures of pools and list a host of things that are not available. The pools are all now closed, there is no restaurant, power is not always on, and the bugs make it impossible to go outside. There are many much better places to stay in Bimini and the Bahamas.
My wife and I rented a couple of units with some friends for a week. One of my friends had a boat, which really helped us get around as the South Island is disconnected from North Island and many of Bimini's attractions. Let me be clear, you need a boat to stay here. You'll also want one to make the most of Bimini, regardless of what island you start on because who doesn't come for that sapphire and turquoise water + what's beneath it?!? There is ample space for docking a boat. So, chances are if you have one, you can dock it steps from your unit. The dockmaster is more reliable than the HOA - book on Booking.com or AirBnB as the Bimini Sands website is worthless. And once you arrive good luck checking in. We were lucky. When we arrived, someone was there to help us check in. But when we had to check out, nobody was there from the HOA and it was 2 hours after their posted opening time. The views are divine. The beaches are fantastic and semi-private. And the provided kyaks and paddleboards make for a fun afternoon. There are two pools, both are in need of repair, but the infinity pool is the nicest of the two, with breathtaking views. There is great fishing and diving within a couple of miles offshore and the Alicetown is about a 10min boat ride away. Would we stay at Bimini Sands again? With a boat? Yes, absolutely. For all of its quirks and needed repairs, it's an affordable and relaxing option for staying in Bimini. And it's got exactly what you come to Bimini for: boating, fishing, diving, relaxation and million $$ views.
The office was closed in the middle of the day and no one working knew how to check us in. We were told the key would be there. After waiting an hour in the hot sun, Gezelle finally showed up and after we walked about 10 minutes carrying our luggage to the condo, we found out the key didn't work! We had 3 rooms and none of the keys worked. When we went back, she acted like it was our fault and didn't apologize!
Condo was very nice clean, roomy for the whole family, beautiful infinity pool, beach access, and the locals are very friendly and helpful, got to see 2 string rays, all kinds and colors of fish, right of the beach area
We decided we were happy to stay here despite several gaps in the resort. The condo we rented was great as it was clean, comfortable, and well provisioned. However, the ship store was closed more than it was open and this was a challenge as we didn’t rent a car and had to walk everywhere for food and drinks. We walked almost 30 miles in 3 days! We are proud we didn’t taxi everywhere or rent golf carts but it was tiring. The marina here is a natural aquarium and was one of the best parts of staying here. We saw rays, many sharks, schools of fish, starfish, jacks, snappers, and puffers. Unfortunately the resort needs some maintenance and could benefit from an update of the pool areas including some umbrellas, bathrooms by the beach, a snack area anywhere that is open or tiki bar. Even some drink machines would be welcomed! We did enjoy the big game resort and diving to sapona wreck and triangle rock with sharks, walking the entire north and south islands, sherry’s at radio beach, Ebbies on way to Hilton, and pina coladas at Hemingway’s and Hilton pool bar.
Nice view of the marina so you can keep your eye on your boat. Chest freezer a comfy addition to keep the fish we caught. Very comfortable unit. We did not feel in need of anything else. Lived Netflix and best of all was the fresh bread we could make in the breadmaker that was provided with items for first bread! Will definitely stay again!
We went for a birthday celebration and had a grand time. The hotel and resort was fabulous. Nice, comfortable rooms with balconies and great amenities. The infinity pool on the roof is beautiful and the one on the first floor is very long so you can get in some great exercise. The beach is quite lovely and there is a good restaurant right on the sand.
When we booked they did not tell us: we do not have water!!! Bathroom, shower, laundry...nothing, no water. I am sorry...just salt water in everywhere...what a joke!! And was in the same situation at least ten days before we arrived...people already there told us. But if you ask about the water situation...the answer is always the same: we are working, may be tomorrow!!... Yes, sure, way not...
If you want your boat directly behind you--this is it. Safe secure and relaxing. Restaurants are not on site so you will need to take transportation. The condos do have a pool and a pool bar with snacks.
We crossed the Gulf Stream in Feb 2018 with our catamaran. I should have written this review as soon as we returned but I don’t usually write reviews. We went there because our boat friends were there and they recommend it. Im glad we decided to go there instead of North Bimini. As soon as we arrived the dock master arranged a cab to take my husband to check us in at the airport. For starters the location is ideal; it’s a safe marina with 2 unground pools. One of them is an infinity pool bordering the beautiful and clean beach. The marina was very clean and the bathrooms and laundry room were impecable. They were cleaned several times during the day. I loved that you could see beautiful color fish right when we got off our boat because the docks are built a little away from a rock retaining wall that looks like a tropical water fish pond. The marina staff and dock master are very courteous and professional. There’s a fuel dock as well. Also pet friendly marina. There was a cafe/restaurant where the locals hung out by the infinity pool, and another place for breakfast (not bad). There’s a small convenient store on location with limited stock but it was something. If you wanted more you can take a short ferry ride to N Bimini and find the markets, the locals know what day the main market is supplied. Make sure to know this. There’s also cell service phone stores where you can get SIM cards for your cell phone while in Bahamas. We got an Alcatel Mifi device with an Aliv chip for $81 (300 GB) we were able to hook our phones to it and have internet service almost excellent throughout Bahamas except Berry Islands. Intermittent service around Staniel Cay, but outstanding and super fast in rest of Exumas, Bimini, and Nassau. I didn’t give it 5 stars because the marina grounds and condos could use a little more attention, it looks like they never finished gardening or something like that. Also, some of the female staff could be a little more courteous. We found that the locals either hate you or love you. We stayed again in May before crossing back to FL and the rates had gone up because of new season. But same great dock service. Definitely if you go by boat, make sure to provision very well as food is expensive and not that great quality all throughout Bahamas. Each island is different in its own way as well as stunningly beautiful. Take bug spray because the no-see-ems will eat you up when there’s no breeze. We will definitely be back.
