My wife and I spent 10 nights at Villa Oriana Relais. Where to start? It is located away from the hustle and bustle of Sorrento, but only a 15 minute walk from the railway and bus station. It is ideally located to explore the peninsula, the islands and all the historic sites around Vesuvius (not forgetting the archeological museum in Naples). Set in a lemon and olive grove, part of the old family farm, it is quiet, peaceful and comfortable. Run by Maria whose passion for the lemons and olive oil show up, not just in her superb cooking but also in her connection to the land. The best breakfasts ever are served on a balcony looking out over the Bay of Naples with views of Vesuvius above the trees and the bay. Maria cooks savoury tarts / quiches and a selection of cakes she bakes every morning with different recipes every day. They are most memorable. The villa is spotlessly clean, but the reason I will never forget the villa is the warmth of the staff. We were made most welcome at all times and they couldn't have been more helpful with our touring in the area and the recommendation of Sorrento restaurants. Maria showed us around the garden with the new flowers on the lemon trees for the spring crop with a knowledge and love that was palpable. I am sure we will return.
After much research and discussion with Italian colleagues, it was clear that if we wanted a quiet stay in Sorrento, we needed to leave the downtown area. Villa Oriana Relais was exactly what we wanted.....perched above Sorrento with views of the Bay of Naples, Capri, and other landmarks. After carefully traveling up a winding side street off the primary drag, you will see the Villa's entrance with its narrow driveway lined with lemon and lime trees leading to the house. After parking near the front door, we were met by one of the Villa's staff who assisted with our luggage. Our check-in was simple since we had booked and paid on line before departing the States. Our room with balcony was big and comfortable. We opted for a large antique iron bed (queen I think) which was very cozy. The bathroom was spacious with tub/separate shower and adequate counter area for toiletries. There was a safe mounted in the closet for securing valuables and a small refrigerator to chill beverages, fruit, etc. The real highlight of each day was breakfast which is included with your room fare. Maria, the owner and chief baker, does a masterful job preparing every morning fresh cakes, fruit tortes, and other special dishes. Yogurts, fruits, cold cuts, cheeses, sliced tomatoes, rolls, oatmeal, cold cereals, juices, and hot coffee/tea round out a more European buffet approach to breakfast. Dining on the terrace is a "must" when the weather cooperates. If you are looking for scrambled eggs and bacon with a short stack of pancakes, you will need to return home for a visit to Denney's! Villa Oriana Relais isn't for everyone especially if you are looking for a vibrant bar scene, rocking music, and late hour dining. But it you want time away from the crowds, a warm and inviting environment; tasty breakfasts; comfortable accommodations; and a knowledgeable staff (Lisa, Marika, Melana) that really cares about making your stay special, Villa Oriana Relais is definitely worth checking out.
We stayed at the Villa for three nights over my birthday in early October. I loved everything about this place! The staff is friendly and welcoming, the room and balcony were spacious, the breakfast delicious and the views were amazing! The ladies knew it was my birthday, so they made me a cake and brought it to me at breakfast, complete with singing and a candle! I was blown away. I loved the fresh baked goods at breakfast each morning and also getting to enjoy our meal on the terrace with beautiful views of the Bay of Naples. We loved our room, too, and were surprised to find a nice walk-in closet area. It was nice to have a space for our clothes and bags that was out of the way. The bathroom is probably the largest one I’ve had in all of my stays in Italy. I just can’t say enough great things about this place. Lovely villa and even more lovely people. One thing to note: if you are arriving by ferry or the circumvesuviana, it would probably be best to take a taxi to the villa, as it is a lonnnnngggg hike up the hill. We chose to walked from the ferry and I thought I might die.
Sorrento, beautiful treasure, but overcrowded and busy. For those who are looking for a quiet, relaxing stay with a magnificent view VILLA ORIANA RELAIS is an ideal answer. The warm welcome, the friendly hospitality, the helpful staff and the extraordinary, dailyfresh, tasteful, delicious breakfast make it an enjoyable place to stay. Our room was a roomy, large, clean suite with view over the Vesuvius and the gardens. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
We had a lovely spacious apartment with a beautiful terrace. Breakfast every day was in the main hotel and was just incredible - amazing array of homemade treats. Breakfast on the terrace with a view of the sea and Vesuvius - Jacuzzi with the same view. The staff were fantastic and we were made to feel so welcome. The grounds of the hotel are also lovely and a nice escape from the scooters and bustle of the main roads.
This property was my husband and my favorite of our two week trip through southern Italy. Maria was absolutely fabulous and so welcoming! Every lady working the front was so helpful and customer service was obviously of the upmost importance. The breakfast that is handmade by Maria every morning is certainly one of the high-lights. We enjoyed relaxing time on the open upstairs terrace with the most spectacular view! Our room was very clean with a terrace to sit and enjoy the view as well. There is a free shuttle to restaurants in town and we enjoyed an excellent meal at Villa Bianca. We can not say enough great things about this property and its owner! We would highly recommend you stay at this property and enjoy your trip to Sorrento!
Maria and her girls made us feel sooo welcome. We arrived by taxi (which was arranged by the villa) at 1030 am and check in isn’t until 1400. I was a bit worried we would be sat round waiting with our bags! But breakfast was just ending and they offered us some. Even tho we had only paid two nights breakfast... they showed us out on to the terrace and pointed out main views. They let us eat and then checked us in. Showing a map of the town and explaining key points. Transport and restaurants etc. They showed us to our room which was clean and huge! It was just amazing. The whole place was welcoming, clean, friendly, speak amazing English! Our plug adapter broke and they lent us one... we asked for another taxi to be booked and they did it. We got upgraded rooms and they asked how our baby was every morning (she was at home with her nanny and we were having a well deserved break). The breakfast was out of this world. The home made baking went down a treat!! We are 100% coming back and already recommended to a few friends. X
We very much enjoyed our stay at Villa Oriana and the hostess and staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. Beautiful views including setting with lemon trees, olive trees and flowers. About 1.5 km from the city centre of Sorrento and very peaceful. Can easily walk to the city or take a cab. Hotel has arrangements with some restaurants for a ride back to the hotel. Breakfast was amazing and recipes are shared! Also assisted with trains and daytrips. Would go back in a heartbeat!
This is a wonderful place to stay. From the kind staff, to the superb breakfasts, to the absolutely stunning views, this place feels like home. The location is in an ideal location for those looking to stay a bit outside of the city for a view with plenty of access when desired. Maria and staff make your stay so warm and comfortable. Prepare yourself for the lemonade, chocolate cake and apple pie!
From the moment we drove up through the lemon trees and were welcomed by Marika, we knew this hotel was special. Our spacious, comfortable room had a balcony with a stunning view across the farm to Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples. Although it is only a short drive from the bustle of Sorrento, the hotel is a haven of peace. Most of all, Maria and her team made our stay perfect. On our first morning, Lisa introduced us to the generous breakfast spread: fresh local produce and bread, marmalade made from the farm's fruit, lemon honey from its bees, and - most delightfully of all - the flans and cakes made daily by Maria, who owns the hotel. Maria herself is gracious, and gives a huge amount of personal attention to making her guests welcome. The Villa Oriana deserves a higher category than "excellent". We are already planning a longer visit for next year.
