I was really looking forward to staying at this hotel from the photos we saw on the internet but on arrival I was somewhat disappointed with what we got. We had an economy double room on the top floor. There is no lift and no one offered to help us with our luggage. The economy room was tiny. The shower was so small that if I dropped something there was no way I could bend down to pick it up. I had to get creative with how I laid out my toiletries with the limited room available in the bathroom. The only space available to open our luggage up was on the bed. Very little floor space. The bed was OK/average for comfort. We could clearly hear other people's TVs and their comings/goings from within our room. I was glad we were only staying one night. It's a shame because the property itself is quite nice and the staff are nice too. Good points: The hotel has parking which was useful for us. I liked the decor of the public areas of the hotel - they are a little quirky but good fun. From memory I think the wifi was OK in our room. The staff were friendly. The breakfast was reasonable, not too much variety but OK for us. Incidentally the lady who served breakfast didn't speak English but we managed OK with our limited Italian, it was fun to try and communicate. We knew the hotel would be out of town so that wasn't a problem. We were informed by the hotel staff that we could catch a bus from near the camping ground and they gave us a timetable. We bought bus tickets from the camping ground kiosk who also gave us a different timetable that we found more useful. It was quite an easy task to get into town and back by bus, only 10 mins trip.
Clean, modern and comfortable hotel. Complimentary breakfast. As others said, this hotel is a bit far from town but we loved walking into town every morning. The view of the water is beautiful. While the walks are a bit more tiring at the end of a long day, there is the option to take a shuttle bus to the camp site that is across the street from Hotel Spicy. I believe it was 1 EUR each way. You can also take the local bus for 1.20 EUR but it stops running at night. Very friendly staff at front desk - they were happy to help if we needed anything. Be sure to visit Bagni della Regina Giovanni!
The hotel was well priced and well located; close to downtown Sorrento. Although hotel is situated on the main highway , public transportation is just a hop away. There is also a shuttle bus across the street..1 euro takes you downtown! Breakfast was very good and staff members were awesome!!excellent stay..would go back again.
We were there 3 nights, okay value! No fridge in rooms or a safe. Plastic lamps in rooms, our rooms door you could see light coming in from all four sides at night and sound traveled bad. You could hear people coming up stairs and we were 3 rooms down the hall from staircase and voices like they were in your room practically. The staff were great real friendly, helpfull. But the decor of hotel not the best pictures of women in bras, and scantly dressed in entrance of hotel!
We were lucky enough to have a sea view room on the 2nd floor and a balcony to watch the sunrise every morning. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was adequate with freshly made pastries, fresh fruit and cereals but the cakes seemed stale. The location was great for us, the main town is around a 20 minute walk or short bus ride for around €1.20 If you stay here it is easier to visit the beach at Baia di Puolo, again about a 20 minute walk away, rather than head to the main beaches in Sorrento. The beach here is less crowded, only €5 for a sun lounger and has many restaurants and shops. Another must is a trip to Bagni della Regina Giovanni, a short walk and definitely worth the wait. This hotel is reasonably priced for Sorrento and has everything you need on the doorstep.
Great hotel to explore Sorrento. This was outstanding value for 3 nights in Sorrento (9th sept onwards). Yes they are far more grand places, but we found it the perfect place as a base on which to explore. To walk from the hotel front door to the centre is approx 15/20 mins but with restaurants and amazing views on the way. Rooms are clean and have a nice view of the sea/mountains. Some paint peeling but all recently decorated. Could do with some new balcony furniture and slightly updated bathroom but the essentials were all there. Clean bedding, towels and the breakfast is great for the money (musli, yoghurt, sausages, tomatoes, etc). (We paid approx 100euros per night) The staff are FANTASTIC! great english, lots of ideas for the area, charged my phone for me and helped with catching buses, etc. we hired a mo-ped but the buses are every 30 mins and cost 1.5 euros. WE were hesitant to stay after reading some reviews, but spicy did not let us down at all. Great value
I had a very nice stay at Spicy. Had a Sea view room. Small and simple (nice modern design) but balcony views made all the difference. Staff was very nice and helpfull, they took my bag upstairs (NO ELEVATOR!), they served breakfast for us before the regular hours because we had an early train. Had good drinks at the bar balcony aswell. I guess the price is reasonable for such a view.
We stayed at this hotel, rooms were very very basic with dirty bed linen on the bed - with stains that had obviously been there for a while. There was a smell of drains in the room and also no facilities such as an iron or kettle. The door to the room needed slamming all the time to shut and the shower leaked all over the bathroom floor every time it was used. Breakfast was not good - cakes, fruit etc but all were out for hours and not the best choice. There was always limited amounts of breakfast items. Parking at the hotel is difficult. Overall this is an ok very budget hotel but there is no excuses with the lack of attention to cleanliness such as the marks on the bed linen. Also you definitely require a car as it is away from sorrento.
Newley refurbished with very modern styling nice room with views over Sorrento . Is just too far from town to enjoy your holiday . Only stay here if you have a car as there is no footpath to walk and the road is busy and narrow . There is a shuttle but it was very late arriving in town and left us standing around . No pool and its 1 km to nearest beach .
We (a couple) visited this hotel during our four-days business trip in Sorrento. Hotel Spicy is located on the hill and is quite away from Sorrento. It means that you will need to have a vehicle to comfortably move between city and hotel. Otherwise, you will need to have 30 minutes walk to the city center from this hotel. Even that exterior of the hotel looks quite classical, its interior is made in pop-art style with Roy Lichtenstein-type of paintings on the room doors and Andy Warhol-type of posters in the rooms. The room was very clean and had some view to the sea through the trees. The best part of the hotel experience was its breakfast with many options of fresh bakeries and pastries. We definitely recommend you to stay in this hotel if you are in Sorrento, in case you have a vehicle.
