Novotel Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa4.5 out of 5.0

lovely location, room quality was very poor for the price, air conditioner did not work and they were aware of it, room was so hot in the summer we had to leave in the afternoon. Would stay in Jindabyne or Thredbo.
We visited lake crackenback and stayed at a superior studio for 3 nights before Christmas. Found the stay quite average and somewhat disappointed. The actual room of our superior studio was very small, with barely enough space for our luggage. Room had a bed, 2 chairs table and 2 armchairs and the TV was in a very awkward position. Our room didnt have a proper parking spot which meant the back of our car hung onto gravel. Deck chairs were dirty so we didnt sit out there. Hotel doesnt allow you to exchange old towels for new towels which is stupid because it meant we ended up doing a full 1 hour washing load to wash 2 towels. Breakfast was average. Facilities were not well maintained. Grass for the golf course was not flat and there was poop everywhere. Pool was a bit dirty and not well maintained. For the price I dont think this place is justified.
We went for 3 nights on the Australia Day long weekend. Location and most facilities were excellent, but a few things were disappointing. Our check-in was woeful and probably the worst I've encountered in my lifetime. The receptionist said no less than 3 times - "Just wait a minute, I have to do this first". We felt unimportant and unwelcome. Our chalet - 2 Little Thredbo Road, was expensive but spacious, had a wonderful view and was well equipped. But without AC, it got very hot and uncomfortable after midday. The first night we had no hot water and tried to contact reception which by 8pm, had already closed. No one had mentioned that after a period of inactivity, the hot water turns itself off. This could have been mentioned in an information folder which was lacking in the chalet. When we booked we had no choice but to accept a "breakfast package with use of all facilities". However when we arrived for breakfast each day, it was obvious the staff and kitchen just couldn't cope with the numbers over the holiday weekend. Food warmers and bread baskets were empty, there were no glasses, cutlery or juice - and I could go on. After half an hour of waiting for replenishment on the first morning, we gave up and made do with what we had, back in our chalet. The setting, walking paths and canoe facilities were very good. However the pool was pathetic - uninviting, cold and empty - my granddaughter lasted 20 seconds. It was hugely disappointing. Whilst this resort is in a lovely setting and has some excellent walking trails, I wouldn't recommend staying on a holiday weekend or any peak periods. If you are staying in a chalet, consider taking your own snacks, drinks and provisions. The small shop near reception is pricey and only stocks snacks and drinks. There is no complimentary wifi in the chalets and in the public areas and restaurants it is weak.
We had a wonderful 4 night summer break at Lake Crackenback resort, and with 3 sons there were so many activities to keep them entertained. They especially liked the kayaking and paddle boards, which are available for use at any time of the day. My husband and I enjoyed the walking and wildlife, of which there are many great walking tracks around the resort as well as plenty of kangaroos. We had a 2 bedroom loft lakeview apartment which was just beautiful. The views from the room across the lake are breathtaking. I will definitely be recommending this resort to friends as a womderful holiday destination.
My granddaughter & myself stayed at Crackenback Resort for 3 nights. There is lots to do as far as activities. We were in a chalet which was clean & spacious. Thredbo & Jindabyne are 15 mins drive away in opposite directions which was good as we walked Kosciusko and went to Jindabyne for dinner the last 2 nights. The cuisine is only open Thursday till Sunday & we went to alpine larder the first night & it was very disappointing. A very small menu & very expensive the staff at activity centre couldn’t be more helpful. So the only downside was eating facilities.
We were a large group that stayed in a number of 3 bedroom apartments for a few nights. The apartments varied a great deal in terms of quality of furnishings and size and only one had air con but they were all comfortable and the kitchens well equipped. There are a number of activities available to keep a wide age range occupied such as kayaking, mountain bike trails, golf and an indoor swimming pool.
We had a wonderful time at Lake Crackenback Resort. Great facilities. Studio had everything we needed. Great to be surrounded by nature with visits from kangaroos and deer. We were lucky enough to watch the platypus swimming at dusk. Visited the spa ......twice! Loved the guided walk.
Only stayed 1 night but had a really nice time. Very peaceful and the waking up with the view of the lake is the best. We are are family of 4 and the kids had their own beds. I love the loft style rooms.
My family (2 daughters and son-in-laws plus 3 grandchildren and myself, Grandmother) stayed at this Resort for 7 nights. I thought it was expensive (approximately $700 per night) for what we received. One Son-in-law, daughter and one grandchild) stayed in the Studio apartment connected to the Chalet where the remainder of us stayed - that didn't work as it is really only for a couple. Also it was very hot and it only had a fan; no air conditioning. The chalet where we stayed was fine - I didn't think it was particularly clean and it was lacking fundamental products: there was only one roll of toilet paper in each bathroom for 5 of us for 7 days; similar for bathroom products - actually if I remember correctly there was only two face washers for all five people. No extra towels or sheets to change the linen - it was very hot and in that weather not to be able to do that was not good. No dishwasher tablets, bin liners, dish cloths and cleaning products at all. Plus our chalet was one of the furtherest away from all activities and Cafes so if you didn't want to drive you walk - actually we are all fit so that wasn't much of a problem - just be aware when you book your accommodation. On the plus side the staff for all venues were excellent and were great with the children. Also we were amazed at how many activities there were and a lot were at no charge. We tried all the eateries and found all good. I personally thought the buffet breakfast was one of the best I have experienced - I travel quite a bit and have experienced a lot of buffet breakfasts.
We haven't been to the Resort for sometime, arrived earlier than expected our room wasn't ready but by the time we had lunch we received a phone call from reception advising us to come and collect our keys. The apartment was very clean and furniture was good, the kitchen had everything you needed, breakfast at the resort was excellent. For a family with children this place is great, so many things to do, only a 5 minute drive to the National Park then on to Thredbo Village, plenty of walking tracks at the Resort and Thredbo, a great place to relax.
