I'm not one to write negative reviews, but I need to make an exception on this one. The Fontaine Inn was beyond bad. It was filthy, it didn't feel safe, if I could have slept elevated as to not encounter potential anticipated creepy crawlies, I would have. The room was dirty, the halls filled with empty beer cans and cigarettes butts. The only reason I stay was because there was no where else in town due to a convention. The owner was sweet and is embarking on his dream of owning a hotel. I want that for him, but truly, he must, must, must clean up, remove the trash, retrain his staff on cleaning and attention to detail. I will not be returning.
This place was so disgusting! There were cigarette like burns in the comforter and the room smelled of cigars so bad I had to call the front desk. They wouldn't change my room so I had to argue with the guy that they better not charge me and say it was us, because in a non smoking room you get charge $100 if they even think you were smoking. The bathroom was terrifying, the shower head looked as if it were going to fall off! Though had to wiggle the handle on the toilet every time you flushed or you would constantly hear the water running. DO NOT STAY HERE! You can pay the same price else where and get a much better room!!
Sorry, but not what I was hoping. A bit run down, but I believe they've been trying to spruce it up. Just need a few details cosmetically to finish off the renovated rooms. Hotel is situated right next to a busy freeway. That and noisy guests, paper thin walls, garbage people picking up at 5 a.m., etc make for an uncomfortable stay. Appreciated the free wifi, parking and continental breakfast though. It's just that San Jose seems to be lacking on having a lot of lodging, I guess. Doesn't help that we had a wonderful suite, with extras, 10 days previously in Las Vegas for the same price! But that's Nevada vs. California and supply vs. demand!
Me: "Two questions. First, are you aware that the shower curtain rod was ripped half way out of the wall and that the night fixture for the bathroom is in the closet?" Them: "Yes" Me: "Is there a room where this is not the case?" Them: "Sorry, but all of the other single bed rooms are booked. Other rooms cost extra." Me: "OK. I'm glad we have this understanding." Light and fixture had been removed from bathroom, shower rod was ripped half way out of the wall, and there were holes in the comforter. There is a digital thermostat on the wall that does not actually control the AC. Scars on the wall from what looks like water damage, and weird scratches from where someone took off with a painting maybe? The whole place smells like old smoke. $200 a night after tax? What? Why is this classified as a two star hotel on Trip advisor? So many questions.
This place could have been nice with a little more attention from the management. Our room was basically well decorated--the furniture was recent and the paint job was decent, but the chairs in the room were scratched, dirty, and faded. The carpet was in desperate need of a good steam cleaning. The hallway upstairs was covered with torn dirty carpeting. Breakfast was just OK. No one was wiping the tables between guests. There was no decaf coffee. When we checked out I told the desk clerk that the carpet in the room needed to be cleaned. She asked if we had had pets in the room. I said absolutely not. When we asked for a receipt she said she couldn't give us one until she had checked the room for damage. This place is not worth the money! It was more than $60 of what we paid for a Super 8 in Salinas.
Hotel was OK, Clean room but dated. Thee is no hotel courtesy bus from the airport as shown on hotels.com, not even at extra cost! We did not have a car as it was for only one night but the area is not the nicest on foot at least Would not recommend for longer than 1 night for vacation unless you have a car.
I was in awe of how clean and modern everything in the room was but I don't know how to feel about the used up soap that was left in the tub. The staff was decent, nothing extraordinary. I do definitely recommend this place though. Lobby was super cute too!
Traveled for a personal stay and I was actually headed to Motel 6 but desided to stop here and they were just so friendly and im glad i stopped because the room was very comfy and there were so many places to eat in the area.
Toilet didn't work. Despite complaint, not fixed. No plug for tub. CAUTION: the bed sits on some sort of frame with heavy extensions poking out that WILL cut your leg. Traffic noise. Jalousie blinds did not keep out a blasting spotlight all night. Internet: OK.
The term "lipstick on a pig" seems to apply to the decent bed and TV in this dilapidated noisy two story motel. Occupants of other rooms had doors open and loud music playing to which the thin door provided no barrier. The Bathroom was tired and rusty with lots of chipped paint. Carpeting was worn and A/C was loud and ineffective even on an evening with temperatures in high 70s. I feel sorry for my opinion as the staff at the front desk staff (the only staff I personally encountered) were really nice and service minded. I have no comment on breakfast as I departed for work before it opened. Readers of my other reviews will understand that I tend to stay at 3-5 star hotels so perhaps my expectations were raised by the 3.5 trip advisor rating and most negatives being related to the surroundings rather than the hotel itself. I rate this dump+ and will never return.
