Guoman Hotel Shanghai

This hotel was away from all the lights, bells and whistles of tourist Shanghai. It was quiet, yet has the supporting surrounds such as KFC, and a small supermarket as seen in most Chinese cities. Opulent entry, bell boys, some staff spoke English well. The rooms were well appointed, linens crisp and white and felt fabulous after a day of sightseeing. Shower in a bath was ok, but could have done with a cord for hanging washing of undies instead of trying to hang over the shower rail. Found out after three nights of stifling heat, that one had to request the windows be unlocked to allow a breeze into the room. Free wifi and good choices of tea and coffee in the room. The restaurant served a plentiful, wide variety of dishes for breakfast. Excellent service by attentive staff. Not right in the heart of the city but so good I would stay there again.

Nice modern hotel in front of a public park. Many rooms have view on the lake. The rooms are good with amenities. There is everything to plug your computer. The service is good. The Internet connection is good. It is of course behind the great firewall so Google does not work... but that is the same everywhere. The breakfast room is a bit small for the hotel size so it is crowdy around 8:00 am. The breakfast offers a large selection of dishes. There is a coffee machine with espresso. A large commercial center nearby with plenty of very good restaurants. I have tried 4 of them all very good. Pretty good hotel if you are doing business in Putuo or Changning districts.

I was there during a trade show in March.. Overall staying is great..nice room, great view from windows..overlooking Chang Feng park. The breakfast is ok..walking distance to nearby shopping mall.. what was feel the most is nearby Jackie Chan museum.. Highly recomended for business traveller who wish to stay nearby Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Center.

I found the room quiet, clean, and safe, but it is not well suited to get work done. I had to do multiple conference calls in the evening but the phone in my room was completely unusable due to too much static on the line and the volume was not stable. I wasn't able to connect to my corporate network through the Wifi. Additionally, I was very unimpressed with the food selections during breakfast and dinner.

I would presume this is a business hotel catering for the businesses in the vicinity. The rooms are sizeable and clean and well maintained. The receptionist made an exception for me to check in at 11 am and this is a kind of empowerment which really makes a wonderful start of a stay. They even waived a the charge of the coke I ordered. I have actually no complaints about this hotel.

My first impression was that this was going to be a very nice hotel. The decor was very modern and inviting. The panel on the wall to control the lights in the room was very high tech and sophisticated. The room was very well appointed, however, the service was pretty lousy. When I entered my room, I noticed how it smelled like someone had spilled an entire bottle of Versace Blue Jeans Cologne, as the odor was so strong in the air. It wasn't cleaned until the following day. There is no way something like that should have been overlooked from the previous guest checking out. I also observed a hair in the shower that was not mine and called regarding this. Someone came from housekeeping and used my hand towel in the room to clean the shower and still left the hair on the wall that I complained about. The buffet is chaotic, especially on a weekend. Go when they first open if you hope to even get a seat. When people leave, the staff is very slow to bother to clean the tables and replenish silverware and place settings, so if you get there late, there is no where to sit and no utensils, glasses, etc.

We stayed for a night and it was a very unpleasant stay. First night i called front desk to help me with the ac which was not working, she did not speak english so i asked to talk with a manager he took the call and told me to open the window! So i hang up and went down to talk with him, he said "open window" and i insisted i wanted the ac working in the room so he said he was going to send the maintenance person. He got to the room (didn't speak english either) he opened the window (i struggled telling him to turn the ac on, and got nothing but a window opened) Its 40-50 mins away from downtown. At the breakfast restaurant i wad yelled by on of the cooking staff because i threw some chocolate chips in my waffles (by the way its a crime in this hotel) Whatever you are paying their ripping you off. Not recomended.

Stayed here on Sinorama Tour. Outside of Shanghai. Breakfast fantastic choice and really good quality. Check out the bar for it s Happy Hours offer. Small shop to rear which sold snacks, wine and beer. Rooms good. Was near to small shopping Mall which we did not visit. Other members of the tour said the Italian restaurant at the Mall was good. Sunny weather in December.

I stayed at the Guoman during a Sinorama Wild China tour. I loved the room and bath. Construction noise during the night was quite aggravating. Room was too hot so the maid opened the window. I was unable to do so on my own. Included breakfast was awesome. First beef I had had while in China. Egg/Omelette station had only one person and took a while to get your order. Very nice lobby and doorman. Hope to get back to Guoman Hotel someday.

Large comfortable room w the best beds & full amenities. All the hotel rooms in China are mostly 2 beds, not Q/K. Stayed 2 nights on Sinorama tour. Lavish breakfast included, but dining room over-crowded & only 1 cook for omelets or eggs. Independent dining there was rather expensive. Across from large, popular park & lake. Taxi to other parts of city was not expensive. Free daily shuttle to airport.
