Not bad, not great

If you are familiar with Chinese culture and language, this place is pretty good. Good value and a great location. However, the staff didn't understand much English. Not a worry if you have a grasp of the language, but something to consider. Also, the beds are a bit harder than western standards and if you dont have a chinese cell phone, there is no house phone.

When i got there at about 2 pm, the room hadn't got clean unbelievable. And the room had no window, we could breath in room. Finally, at this price, we have no choice to pick a room at this great location. hope they can get improved

We had a pretty bad experience. The A/C wasn’t working and we had to ask for 30min to get it on. It felt suffocating in one of the rooms. Also, loud construction started at 7am, rendering us unable to sleep and we had an important meeting to be ready for. Also, we were charged for breakfast and actually they don’t provide breakfast anymore because of no license. Our stay in March was not like this and we will not stay here again.

Cockroach problem

I had to move rooms due to a cockroach infestation on my first room. I had already asked them if I could move as I was concerned about noise and they told me there were no other rooms with a window. After the cockroaches they moved me, so they were also not telling the truth.There was no bottled water though it states online, on every website, that there is. Quaint looking place but customer service from the stoneages. Very hard beds

Nice Location

1 minutes walk to Liz carton Shanghai Portman where having restaurants and a super market. Those are expensive compared to others in the city, but foods seem clean and safe. The hotel itself is normal. Good for business use.

Pretty good for the price

The decor inside the hotel and room was really nice, with traditional Chinese elements (vases, crafts, etc). I really liked the wood floors and shelves in my room. There are some comfortable couches in the lobby and some tables and chairs outside if you want to hang out. The bed was fairly comfortable, not rock hard like some Chinese hotel mattresses. But it wasn't pillow top/5-star hotel comfortable either. I couldn't figure out how to get the heater to work, but the comforters were plenty warm so I slept fine. I probably could have asked someone to show me how to use it but I was lazy. There are many stores, bars, and restaurants nearby, including upscale imported goods stores. So I think the location is decent. The one downside is that there is some kind of construction going on around the hotel and the walls/windows don't do anything to keep the sound down. The work is done by 9/10PM and starts at about 8/9AM. So it is best if you have plans to stay out all day unless you like construction noises. Hopefully you don't want to sleep in late either. I liked the place and would stay again.

Good location but bad facilities and staff

Facilities are extremely old. Staff is rude. Our package included free breakfast, but when we asked the staff for the breakfast coupon, the staff's attitude was really bad!! Won't stay there again ever!
