Returning to the public bar in the Kyle Hotel, after an evening stroll, was not quite as expected. A young man was clearly at odds with the barmaid, who was trying to get him to moderate his colourful language. Having been in the bar briefly after checking in, I knew that he and his mates had been in the bar for over three hours, frequently cursing and swearing whilst playing pool and in general conversation, it clearly seemed unfair that he was now no longer able to converse in this way. Up until that point they seemed quite happy to accept his custom. Trying to seek my views on the appropriateness of his profanity I suggested if he wanted to continue being served toning it down might be helpful. Fortunately I’m not unaccustomed to such colourful language, but I did feel sorry for other hotel guests who were faced with the choice of having a drink or not, since this was the only bar in the hotel open on a Friday evening. The Kyle Hotel is typical of many old-style hotels crying out for an upgrade. The misnomer of ‘Bespoke’ Hotel, it’s the name of the group which owns it and not reflective of the style of accommodation on offer. Down at the heel, understaffed and lacking in general management would be my assessment based on an overnight b&b stay. Apart from the lack of choice for a quiet drink, the dining room was not well used, despite the recommendation by reception, that we should book, as it would be busy. Their prices were a bit steep, but £2 cheaper if you took your chances and ate in the bar! Too be fair, however, breakfast included in the £97 per night price was pretty good with a reasonable range of buffet or freshly cooked items available. The room, like most of the hotel could do with a makeover, the broken floor tile in the bathroom was a bit of a worry and the small LED TV was curiously mounted, covering the lower part of a wall mirror. Bed was soft but comfortable and good selection of tea & coffee with biscuits. So not much going for it, not even a decent view, but a short walk from the harbour and the train station are in its favour. But I won’t be hurrying back anytime soon, sorry.
A slightly worn out feel to the place but good value for money. Got rather fed up with the portable radio used as background music in the restaurant and asked for it to be turned off (which it was). At least get some CDs rather than using a radio station with DJs.
I was very pleased with my stay at Kyle Hotel. I shared a family room with 2 friends. We had two separate bedrooms and a shared bathroom. The rooms were clean, spacious and warm. The breakfast was a fantastic combination of self service continental breakfast and upon request cooked breakfast. The staff were all polite and helpful. If am in Kyle again, I will book a room in this hotel!
Staff can't be bothered. In need of renovation. Little noise insulation, I could hear everybody moving about above and next to me. Doors constantly opening and closing all night long. Somebody going around at 3-4am shouting for somebody else (in a foreign tongue) and banging doors. Tried to contact the Duty Manager (reception not manned) on the Emergency mobile number but no answer so I could only leave a message. Phoned back a second time and found the phone was then switched off. No customer service of any kind whatsoever. I did complain but got a blank stare - without any eye contact. Terrible hotel; shame of Scotland.
While on business in the area I went to the hotel for some food at the bar. There is a good range of beers and the food options are what you would expect at a bar. The food I had was quite acceptable and tasty. Would I go again for a beer and food; yes.
We found this small hotel a little better than some reviews might lead one to believe. Yes, it is an old hotel but the UK is an old country so its not surprising. Our room was small, again to be expected in an old hotel and yes, it does need some improvements but if every hotel was exactly the same there would be no requirement for reviews, but our room was clean. Dinner and breakfast were okay.
We stayed in this hotel one night while visiting this beautiful area. We had booked our room online and we're truly surprised by how small the rooms are, and how different it looked from the photo shown on their site our room was! The beaten up furniture in our room was beaten up & we had a tough time getting organized as it was hard to move freely. Very overpriced!
When arriving at the Hotel the outside caused us to be apprehensive. Once in our room we relaxed in a beautiful clean room with a wonderful bathroom. The full Scottish breakfast was generous and tasty. They have a free car park at the rear and free reliable wifi. The staff was welcoming.
We were looking for a place that was affordable and central to our visit. This hotel was comfortable and the staff was friendly. We only stayed one night. Kyle is a tough place to find a restaurant after hours so plan ahead.
If can't get a hotel on the isle of Skye then this place is an alternative. The facade puts you off a bit and the bar reminds you of old fashioned club, but the rooms are okay, the beds are comfortable and clean. It is good value for money and the breakfast is a good standard too.
