Hilton Garden Inn Santiago Airport3.5 out of 5.0

When I need a night at the Santiago airport, I usually stay at the Holiday Inn, which is a good hotel at the Terminal and couldn't be any more convenient. This time, I figured I'd mix it up a bit and try the Hilton. I have Gold status in the Hilton loyalty program so I get useful free perks like buffet breakfast and drink vouchers. The Hilton is about a 10 minute free shuttle away from the airport. They have an efficient arrangement with TransVIP to get you there relatively quickly. For the return, the hotel has it's own shuttle bus at fixed times. This is nowhere near as convenient as walking to the Holiday Inn, but it works and it's free. The hotel itself is fine for an airport hotel. The breakfast I got was excellent. Chilean breakfasts are usually quite bad by American standards (even at other Hilton Garden Inns in Chile), but this one was excellent. They even had bacon: I've never seen that at a restaurant in Chile! Rooms are 4-star quality. My check-in was bizarrely slow as the desk clerk had somehow disappeared for 10 minutes, but after I got checked in, everything went fine. I might stay here again if I had a longer layover and didn't need the superior convenience of the Holiday Inn.
The hotel is what you would expect an airport hotel to be. Situated opposite the terminal building, it is a hop, skip and jump away. Check-in was very efficient and the service slick. Rooms are modern, work well and have all the amenities you need. Bathrooms are large with showers over baths. We slept very well. WiFi was quick though a bit patchy in rooms. There is a sports bar area where you can eat and the menu is the same as in the restaurant. We found the food good if on the pricey side. There is also an indoor pool with rudimentary changing facilities. Saunas were not functioning when we were there. The Hilton is the obvious choice if you have an early morning flight out of Santiago.
From check in to check out very pleasant stay. Very clean rooms with comfortable beds My housekeeper was excellent. Breakfast has fair amount of options. Staff very accommodating. Internet speed was good for free service. Best for in and out trips, Hotel is 8-10 minutes from airport, but is fairly isolated. Shuttle service to mall. Laundry facilities available
Because of a late night check-in and an early morning check-out 2 days hence, we decided to stay at an airport hotel for the two nights. The decision worked out very well. the Hilton Brand assured a consistant level of service and care that I expect from the brand.
We were placed at the Hilton Garden Inn Santiago Airport by LATAM after our flights were disrupted [make sure you read my review on LATAM]. When we arrived and the girl behind the reception told us there were no rooms, I nearly cried. She obviously saw my stress and how tired my wife and I were and immediately gave us a voucher for breakfast and told us to come back after we eat. We did and were immediately given a room. The room was wonderful but the service was excellent.
We decided to stay in this hotel as we had less than 24 hours in transit in Santiago. In retrospect we probably would have been better staying in the city center as my wife and I both were looking forward to a long walk on the afternoon before a 14 hour flight home. The area the hotel is situated in must not be a particularly safe one as its surrounded by a high fence with electric gates so we decided reluctantly not to go walking and had to make do with the treadmills in the small gym. As a matter of historical interest, the treadmill was invented by the British as a means of punishing prisoners. Generally the hotel was clean and well run however there were a few annoying aspects. Firstly this is the only Hilton I can think off that I've stayed in, and the only hotel we encountered in 3 weeks travelling around South America, that did not have some form of universal power point. There's almost always at least one for shavers in the bathroom. Unfortunately our European adaptors wouldn't fit. Secondly we were pleased to see a selection of half sized wine bottles in the room service menu. This is just the right size of bottle for us and the choice is often better than wine by the glass. However when we got to the restaurant we were told that these bottles were available only via room service. Pardon? So we have to go back up to the room, order the wine via room service, then come back down with the wine? Eventually they agreed to supply us with a half bottle, but only one particular one, no choice. We booked the hotel shuttle to the airport the night before and checked out 10 minutes before the allotted time then sat there for almost half an hour. Meanwhile it transpired that the driver was sitting around the corner waiting to be advised by the desk that we were ready! Luckily we had allowed lots of time for check in etc. Unless you stopover is really short I'd suggest you stay in town.
Great hotel, specially if you need to be close to the airport. The shower is amazing and bed quality is also good. The service is also great. They offer a very convenient shuttle service to and from the airport.
This hotel is close to the airport. Transport to and from the hotel is well arranged with Transvip and the Hotel shuttle. The hotel rooms are comfortable and clean. Free WIFI available, not that many English TV channels. Good restaurant, temperature could have been slightly higher and the airco in the restaurant is noisy. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were good. The hotel has a sauna, gym and indoor swimming pool. Reception staff is great and does there best to make your stay perfect. Would definitely stay again.
The lack of electrical outlets with the American standard plugs is a major inconvenience. Even though they have adaptors at the lobby, this time there were no adaptors available, and I could not use my cell phone after it ran out of juice. I was told to hook up to the USB port on the TV, but that did not work either. This is the only Hilton Hotel in Latin America that does not have at least a couple of electrical outlets in the room with the American standard plugs.
I did not expect much since this hotel is branded as a Garden Inn. But it is actually better than that. People were nice and service was fine. Room was nice also. The one funny thing, in the restaurant. I ordered my steak rare. The waiter translated that into well done... It was only chatting with him after the meal that the confusion was identified. Beware that the place may not be so esy to reach if driving. One has to come from the right side of the highway, and make a few loops around and exchanger until getting there. Again, going to the airport the next morning was not so easy either, with the navigation in our rental car confusing itself in the small streets behind the hotel.
