I’ve been coming to the Aloha Sol for several years now mainly because of the central location and reasonably priced accommodation. However, the hotel is slowly going downhill and I don’t know how it remains open. I could go on for several pages but will limit it to this most recent experience. I called several weeks in advance to make a reservation for 3 days and told them I wanted the 5th floor (that’s because wifi availability is hit and miss on other floors.) was told I couldn’t book a specific room and that they would likely accommodate the request when I showed up. Showed up ... no rooms available on the 5 th floor because accommodating a group. Ok they put me on the 4 th but then said I wouldn’t be able to stay in that room for 3 days because it was specifically booked for the other days . So I thought you couldn’t book a specific room ... not true. If you’re a foreigner you can’t but if you’re Dominican you can . On top of that .. they wanted me to pay for all 3 nights up front even though there was no room available beyond the first night. That idea didn’t go very far as I refused and just paid for the first night. Go to my room, shower curtain rod fell and was in shower. Bell boy calls maintenance guy .. guy makes two trips to get the proper materials and tools. Doesn’t use a hammer to nail in a support plate...uses some metal object. I asked whether he could use a hammer , he says the hotel doesn’t provide him any tools Sand they are cutting back. Strange ... Anyway back to the reservation.. Ended up talking to some higher level person the next day and she magically found me another room for 2 nd and 3 rd nights . Ok come back a week later .. reservation for 2 nights ok this time. Needed clothes laundered so asked maid .. said no problem .. clothes would be washed and ironed by next day. Next day talked to them did about clothes .. no problem. Would be ready thus afternoon. 6:00 pm no clothes. Went to reception desk asked about clothes. Made 3-4 calls .. all in Spanish and under his breath.. as we were carrying on a secret spy meeting. Lol. Gets off the phone and says it would be ready next day. Told him I was leaving tomorrow early and needed to be at bus station by 9:00 am. Made another secret call. Told me it would be ready at 8:30 am.. Told him it was too late as it wouldn’t give me time to get to the bus station. Look on his face was like “ too bad .. suck it up.. not my problem.” These individuals try to speak English but aren’t very fluent so they just say yes to everything without knowing what they’re agreeing to. Now I’m waiting to see what they do about my clothes.. Anyway not going to let it ruin a good trip. Got to stop coming here .. attitude is not about service to client but more about this id the way it is and if you dont like it, go somewhere else. Too bad for a country that relies heavily on tourism.
I have being going to this Hotel for 10 years plus always found it decent for the price I paid, Even ignored the constant need to be moved from one room to another on more then one occasion. Or the leaks and rundown look of some of the rooms. All because I felt comfortable with the staff. But I can honestly say I would never go back to this hotel not even for free. From the constant renovation to the closing of the casino and now a 'NEW MANAGER" who stopped me and rudely raised his voice at me for having a guest whom visited me for approximately 30 minutes. I have no words to describe the rudeness of this manager, The embarrassment I felt to be stopped and get scolded at in front of my guest. I have no Idea what is going on with this place. I am sorry for the staff. as I know them for years and they are very friendly. I was only there for 3 days but I did checked out around 7:30 am. the very next day and ended up going to the Matum Hotel near the monument. For my last night stay. I have so many negative things to say about this place at the time that I decided to wait a week before I did my review but I just realized that time didn't make me feel different about my experience in this place. ALOHA SOL UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT IS ONE OF THE WORST PLACES TO VISIT IN SANTIAGO. The breakfast buffet is the worst. there is no variety anymore. I came down for breakfast and wound up with just a cup of coffee. I am really sorry to say Staff is very friendly and nice but the Manager is the one person that will bring this place down. He was not only rude but was trying to manipulate the words I was saying by asking if my guest was my wife, and also If I was from another country. I specifically told him that even though I am Dominican I am a visitor and I frequent this hotel for more then 10 years, words he ignored and kept raising his voice at me , and to make things worst he told me he didn't care what I had to say. That he was in charged and that the night before he had escorted 8 woman out of the hotel from some ball players that were their. I mean I don't understand if he thinks anything of what he said made sense. The one thing I do know is Aloha Sol Hotel has los a long time customer for not only poor maintenance but very "BAD MANAGEMENT". The next day after the incident the manager was at the front desk as I was checking out, asked me if I was leaving the country which I replied yes although I was not. Extended his hand to shake mine and said thank you, Never once apologizing for his rudeness.
I have been staying at this hotel every year for the past 5 years. I have seen it deteriorating every years. What a shame. Because its in a perfect location right in the middle of Santiago, D.R. The check in process is very good and easy. There is a gentleman there who is a doorman named Jose. He is very helpful and can direct you too anywhere you would like to go. Two thumbs up for him. I arrived to the room which appeared nice a cozy. It had a 80's television set. Which I don't mind too much because I don't watch that much T.V anyway. But what really got me was one evening I was taking a shower and the water ran out. I was full of soap. Unreal this has never happened to me in any hotel or resort that I have visited. Shm... Realistically, The only good thing about this hotel anymore is that it is centrally located and the tiles on the floor. If you can find another location do so.
I had to stay a few extra days in DR and i spent them in Santiago, i went to this hotel, it was very fine for the price, around 50$USD a night. The hotel itself need to revamp a little but still, for me it was ok, i slept very well, it was very quiet and it did surprised me because this hotel is located in the noisiest street of the city, Calle Del Sol. Even though i didn't go, i was told they were offering free breakfast every morning from 6:30 to 10:30, also WiFi is free and works very well. I recommend this hotel if you ever go to Santiago.
First let me say that I stayed here for a short time a few years ago. They were renovation the inside, specifically the lobby area. Anyway, from what I remembered, they had ok rooms, it felt small and cramped because the small window overlooked the parking lot and not enough light came through. Other than that. it was located in the central of the city which is a positive and they had parking in the back. The price for rooms at the time was reasonable also.
The reasoning of me choosing Aloha Sol was the reasonable price as there really are not too many options in that category that is centrally located in the city. That being said, I recommend only a night or two stay as the street noise is horrible in the rooms. The windows in the room are so pathetic, one could hear a dog fart from the street sidewalks the windows are so bad. The curtains were an eye sore as they were stained. Not to mention the front lobby sliding door. By orders from the arrogant owner of the hotel, the lobby door from the street is open day and night..to SAVE money to not use an air conditioner. Too cheap to keep the customer satisfied will long term bring a business down. I truly feel bad for the staff as they have to work in the noisy lobby with pollution flowing into the lobby 24/7. Generally the staff was ok and did their best to what they have to work with. I could have given a worse overall rating but they prevented that with their efforts to satisfy. The owner of this establishment should be ashamed of himself, he has plenty of wealth from many businesses, he is a tight wad that pinches small pesos to benefit his large bank account. Sorry folks, I just call it how it is..TRUTH
Decent hotel for a short stay in Santiago. Close to restaurants and bars, as well as the highway to the airport. Upon check-in, I had an issue with my room and was quickly moved to a better room. I would stay here again.
I had no reservation and decided to try this hotel on recommendation of a local friend from Santiago. Staff spoke functional English. Hotel pictures I see here are exactly how the place looked EXCEPT...The actual bedroom I was in was far superior to the pictures. The bathroom was huge with space for 3 people with no problem. The room had a waiting area with a couch , small fridge, tv, and various other things. I visited 5 hotels during my stay and this one was by far the nicest and cleanest. It was also the only one I found that offered a free breakfast that I felt safe eating. Hotel staff always available to help. 24/7 security right outside but there was a good police presence also so it felt safe for family to walk around even at night. Anything you wanted to do you could walk to or jump in a car right outside the door. I can't think of a bad thing about this place everything was perfect. Restaurant on site was very nice and extremely quiet. You can get just about anything on the menu for 500 pesos. Just remember the sales tax is 18% in the DR.
Spacious rooms, nice bathroom with all the facilities. The location is great as you can walk to good restaurants. I would recommend this hotel. No complains. I should mentioned that we didn't have a reservation but the receptionist was very helpful and accommodated us within 10 minutes.
My Family and I were at Aloha sol on April and like the other three tomes we have been there it was a great experience. Even tho the wifi signal is not good in every floor and other little problems we had with the shower, overall we always enjoy our stay in Aloha Sol. We love the people there , I mean the customer service is unique and the location. We also love their free breakfast.
