A magnificent setting, a charming courtyard, rustic furniture in rooms, tiled floors and marble bathroom. The water was hot, but a trickling flow. We felt more attention was needed to the room. We had breakfast, lunch and dinners, all local produce. Antipasto was generous and delicious, Gigliotto wine was rich, chicken was tender, local pork was tough. Manager Guissy spoke good English, arranged for our personal laundry, many thanks! The indifferent waiter described the set menu in Italian. The owner is a charming gentleman, who offered us a self-guided tour of the winery, and treated us and other guests to a taste of superior wine. We walked around the estate, and saw chickens, goats, pigs, sheep and donkey, all in a large barn, out of the rain. A splendid Sicilian experience.
Very pleasant and picturesque setting; rooms rather monastic and costly Euro 70 for a single occupancy. Very few people staying at this time of year so the atmosphere was lacking. The food was only reasonable - and again costly by comparison to better meals elsewhere. Breakfast was pretty Spartan.
The grounds and vineyards are beautiful. I can only imagine in the warmer times of the year with the vines in bloom and the pool and outside areas cleaned up and decorated for the season how beautiful it must be. The young lady at the reception was very friendly and spoke good English. The manager or one of rhe bosses was present when we checked in and then again sat alone in the restaurant for his dinner but never greeted anyone or said hello. With this said I also only hope that the restaurant is much more together with food, neatness etc during the summer months. We traveled to Caltagirone only to dine at Gigliotto and were sorely disappointed. Our Secundi ( main course)consisted of very dry piece of meat. The total meal and amount of food from Antipasti to desert and wine served was alot and was inexpensive but we would have prefered to pay more for something better. We wanted to do some wine tasting but gave up and left.
Wow!! This is an amazing place. Rooms confortable, great good, fine wine. Great service! They have it all! Pool, trekking, close to two little charming tows, if you want to explore. And 1.5hrs from Aggrigento for side trips!! Best time to go is September to see how they make wine! We went in off season, but it was worth it!!!
Choosing Gigliotto as our wedding venue was one of the best decisions we've ever made. My wife being from the center of Sicily, our dream was to get married in a rural location with breathtaking vues of the Sicilian countryside. Our wedding planner showed us Gigliotto and we can say that it was love at first sight. The winery and bed and breakfast are nested between vineyards and cactus fields (fichi d'India). The grounds are rustic with a very beautiful courtyard. Giusy and her team were incredibly welcoming and friendly. They tailored to all our needs. We had access to the entire property: courtyard, pool, terrace, vineyards, lawn. The food was excellent, diverse, typical and very generous. Our invitees loved it! The wine and bollicine are made on the property. Do not expect to find the service of a 5-star hotel because this is not what Gigliotto is about. We highly recommend it to people looking for a typical Sicilian atmosphere in a beautiful surrounding away from soul-less mass tourism. We recommend you check out our pictures.
We only stopped her for lunch and we really enjoyed it. The lunch was many courses and served family style. Large platters were brought out for each course and it was all very good. It was decorated for Christmas and looked beautiful.
We stayed two nights at the end of October. The location is gorgous, the room was excellent and very comfortable--a very good value. From what we saw at breakfast, there were only two other guests. We had one excellent dinner and two included breakfasts. No complaints here; the service was attentive and professional. It was a bit depressing to be virtually the only guests in a very large dining room. The room could have used a cozy bar/lounge for predinner drinks--perhaps a fireplace would add some cheer. My chief complaint is that we were hoping to have a more farm atmosphere. This is a big agricultural operation, with big buildings. We would have appreciated a tour, some wine sampling, etc. We enjoyed (on our own) discovering a few farm animals. Although they tried to sell us some wine as we checked out, they should have arranged for a tasting first as they bottle a lot of varieties. (We declined.)
I always thought that fichi d'India were only growing in the wild. But no, here at il Gigliotto, they make fruit orchyards out of them. Giusi, the girl at the reception of Agriturismo Gigliotto, tells us anecdotes about how Sicilians learned to make the fruit more juicy and with less seeds (has to do with the mafia). We stayed one night in this rural guesthouse (agriturismo), food was abundant and colourful, rooms nicely furnished, with patio and view, prices reasonable, what more do you want?
We cant visit Sicily wihtout visiting Gigliotto. Gigliotto is the most romantic and beautifull place to visit if you want to discover the real Sicily, the nature and the real sicilian food. D'ont go there just for a room, but feal how it is to stay at the place and smell Sicilia, enjoy their dinner and drink their own wine.
The location of the property and views are quite spectacular. Great to sit on an enormous terrace with a cold beer or glass of wine. One evening we could see Mt Etna about 60km away whilst erupting The breakfasts were okay but with only Cinzia working some delays were encountered. The evening meals were better organised but Sicilian eating time can be quite late by comparison to the UK. The huge dining/party room can cater for well over 120 party guests who can start to arrive at almost 22.00. These large parties take priority over evening meal guests which can be both problematic leading to a late eating time. Although most staff spoke no or little English we found them to be very friendly and this may be due to how they are treated together with the ability of my partner to speak Italian. Jiacamo and Roberto are the chefs with Cinzia as a waitress. A young man Sergio spoke good English and was always polite and again friendly. He was more in a supervisory capacity but also helped by bringing meals to the tables. He also showed us round the wine making plant. The owner spoke no English but again we got on very well with him. Each day the staff greeted us in a very friendly way and even our final goodbyes were just as nice. The hotel receptionist spoke English. It is certainly different to a UK hotel/B&B so bear in mind that this is not a 4 star hotel but is very authentic to Sicily. We enjoyed our stay.
