I visit Nicaragua every year whenever I have a chance! I went to Palermo by suggestions from french friends who had been there. Unlike other "fancy" places in San Juan del Sur and Tola, where you don't get a good treatment even if you pay well... they are often overwhelmed and not putting special attention to the art de vivre... At Palermo it was different: the staff made us feel comfty and happy! I'm very picky by nature but that didn't mean to bother them. We had the chance to call for the manager and she was so cheerful and nice.
Very good shuttle service to downtown and to beaches, free to and from villas, BUT be sure you let Guiermo know when you want to return before you let him get away. We did not have cell service to call or email and so had to take a taxi back. I especially felt bad because Guiermo had been very kind, even giving us a tour when we first arrived and several recommendations for eating. We did not realize when we booked that it was so far to the beach but the shuttle service made everything very accessible. The Villa we stayed in was very clean. We ate both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and thought it was good value. Friendly staff.
We celebrated our wedding at Villas de Palermo and had a wonderful experience. Jessica, the wedding coordinator, was incredibly helpful over the whole planning period and the whole staff was friendly, flexible and helpful on the day before, day of the wedding, and day after. We requested a lot of personalizations and changes to the original wedding package, and everything was arranged/changed as requested. The ceremony on the beach was well-coordinated by Villas de Palermo through a different restaurant, and the reception at Villas de Palermo went smoothly (although it was VERY windy that night!). Our guests enjoyed the food on the wedding night. As a Nicaraguan-U.S. couple, we found that Villas de Palermo was a great choice for hosting all of our family and friends. Thank you to Jessica and the whole staff for all your help!
The moment you walk into the reception building, you walk past the dinky, little office that serves as your "check-in." You would think for a villa-style "resort," they would have a more welcoming reception area. The pool is small and the restaurant food is nothing to write home about. It is just OK. However, dining staff are pleasant. The villas themselves are on STEEP slopes. The property is hilly and there are walkways with dangerous drop-offs. I fell and sprained my ankle here. There are NO LIGHTS on the grounds at night, which makes walking here after sundown dangerous. The villa is a spacious 2-story, 2-bedroom, 2-bath stand-alone home. However, it leaves much to be desired. It is very bland with no personality. The beds are comfortable. The shower, however, has SCALDING HOT water or cold shower. NOTHING in between and the shower pressure is VERY low. It would take you an hour to wash your long hair thoroughly. Lastly, there are NO phones whatsoever in the villa. They offer room service but without a phone, HOW could you order room service?! We had to go back down to the reception and order in person for room delivery. They expected us to use our U.S. phones, which unfortunately did not work during our stay. If something were to happen to you in the villa with no phone, how would you contact anyone for help?! There are many details of this place that were not well-thought out. Please consider carefully BEFORE you book!
The grounds are well kept. There is a free shuttle service for downtown available hourly and it is nice. We had no hot water for the shower and this even after we reported it. The door and windows are wood and clang continuously due to the wind. The bedroom curtains are very light and do not allow darkness for a good night sleep. We had an excess of 15 power failures in those 3 days, albeit very short ones. The hotel kept the second bedroom and second bathroom doors locked for some reason, so no access to a second bathroom. There are no ceiling fans as described on their website. Their were no meal plans as described on their website. The kitchen was very, very basically equipped. The restaurant was top notch for us. Good meals, descent prices. The majority of the villas are due for an outside paint job. The staff was average, none struck us as being great.
My wife and I arrived Friday Jan. 12 and sadly we leave tomorrow. This is the second time we have been here. We arrived at 4am due to our late flight. The guard at the post had our names and our key ready for us so we could get enter our villa. There were quite a few ants when we arrived but that is to be expected anywhere that hasn’t had people for a few days. Anyway, the staff immediately sent someone to take care of the ants when we reported it the following day. The wait staff is always friendly and the food has always been top notch. The villa was exceptionally clean. The bathrooms at the pool were fairly clean as well, which isn’t always the case at other resorts. Various spa treatments are available with appointment, just make sure you give advanced notice. Massage therapist Luz was very friendly and did a good job. Very comparable to what I’ve experienced in the U.S. Angelo at the front desk was always ready to help at a moments notice and very attentive to our requests. Free shuttle service to town was always on time and picked us up where requested. Top notch resort overall. Highly recommended!!
We live in Costa Rica and visited the Resort Palermo for a 3 night get a way with friends this past July. They had stayed here before a couple of years ago and enjoyed it so much they wanted to go back. We booked a 2 bedroom Villa that was wonderful. Clean, well appointed with everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable and the air conditioning worked very well. We really enjoyed having happy hour on the patio and the peace and quite. The areas and gardens around the villas were a little un kept and it seemed there was quite a bit of work going on in various villas. There were a/c units, water heaters and other construction type trash on the curbs throughout the homes in the area. You could tell the landscaping had once been lush due to the design and architectural features covered by the overgrown grass and foliage, Our friends commented on what a difference there was in the appearance of the grounds and landscaping since their previous visit. We commented how sad it was to let such a lovely design go neglected. Perhaps they were undergoing some changes in staff and management and let it go at that. We just wanted to rest, watch movies and spend the hot July afternoons in their lovely pool. What a disappointment that was. We went to the poolside restaurant for breakfast and to take a morning swim. No Way.... there was a greasy film covering the top of the whole pool. We realized we arrived on Sunday. Which was the last day of the 3 week July school break. A big time for family vacations. The waiter commented they had been full for the past few weeks with families who lived all day in the pool. We commented on the pool condition to the front desk with disappointment we weren't able to enjoy our morning swim. And, asked if the pool would be clean by the afternoon. The response was, "That's just suntan lotion on the top. Other than that... The pool is clean." We heard the same complaint from other guests and for the entire three days we were there nothing changed and we saw no one else in the pool. It was very hot so we just enjoyed the Villa, watching movies and playing cards. Now for the good stuff. The hotel restaurant is outstanding. The food was very good quality with many choices on the menu. I highly recommend the beef. Very tender and excellent cuts. Not, to mention the value and excellent prices. Plus, the services of the wait staff was outstanding. Other than the day we went into town and to the beach. We ate all our meals at the restaurant without one complaint. The staff was pleasant and nice but, it was evident they were not in decision making positions. Perhaps we just caught them after a very busy time and since they weren't extremely busy our issues weren't priorities to them. We had a wonderful time and if you don't care about having a pool. We would highly recommend you give them a try. We will probably stay someplace closer to town next trip. Just to be a little closer to more restaurants and some nightlife. We appreciate the wonderful service we received from the staff Great contribution to the property. Just hope they are appreciated and compensated.
The location it’s a wonderful place in the middle of a mountain, near from Bay San Juan del Sur (1.5 mi). The personal in the reception are very nice and the restaurant´s waiters. But nobody helped us to carry on our stuff to the bungalows and we had to walk up hill. The bungalow was very pleasant, quiet, very comfortable and equipped with a kitchen with all its stuff, a dinner table living room and Terreza. Doors need maintenance Amenities, a Restaurant with a varied menu, and a little pool front the restaurant. There is not communication between the bungalows and the reception/administration or restaurant. You need to use your personal cellular to do a petition or question. Exist a transfers between the Hotel and the Bay, part every hour.
The setting is gorgeous, the pool is great, and the villas are lovely inside. This should have been a great 3-day stay for my family, but was made stressful and disappointing due to a series of problems with our villa and lack of customer service from the hotel staff. I have lived in Nicaragua and so am experienced at Nicaraguan amenities - it's unreasonable to expect everything to be perfect, but for the high price of this resort, a higher standard of service and amenities need to be offered. Problems with the villa: ant infestation, no hot water, and no water pressure in the downstairs shower. Otherwise, the villa was lovely with decent furnishings and a nice view of the town and ocean. We stayed in villa 25, and there was a terrible ant infestation. They were all over our bathroom and crawled on us during the night. We told the hotel staff and they came in to clean, but the ants remained for the duration of our stay. We had no hot water in the villa for the 3 days of our stay. They came to fix the hot water on the second day, but nothing changed. There was also no water pressure in the downstairs shower - it would not go above a tiny trickle. Problems with customer service: Overall, there was poor service and communication. Some examples: They made us wait 2.5 hours to check in upon our arrival for a 3-day stay (we were 2 hours earlier than scheduled check-in time, but the resort was not crowded, our villa was ready, and they made us wait an extra half-hour after the official check-in time before they would give us the keys). We checked in on Christmas eve and asked if there was a special meal available for Christmas for guests. They said yes, but that guests had to pre-book it and it was not available. We asked why we weren't offered the opportunity to sign up for this special meal since we'd made our reservation two months before, but they didn't have a good answer. On our check-out day, they sent cleaners to our villa 2.5 hours before the official check-out time, who started cleaning and said that we needed to leave and check-out, although we were still packing and should have had access to the villa for another 2.5 hours. For our departure, we arranged shuttles through the hotel. One shuttle was arranged to take 3 family members to one destination, and another shuttle was arranged to take 1 family member to the airport. The hotel mixed up the shuttle reservations and sent the shuttles at the wrong time and expected us all to be traveling to one destination together, which was a big hassle for my family to sort out at the last minute. I know that mistakes and miscommunications can happen, but for the high price we were paying for a private shuttle though the hotel, this should not have happened.
Gorgeous setting on the mountain side with a lush spectular panoramic view. Large pool area with outdoor bar and dining area looking out to the expansive view. Beautiful spacious 2 floor villa with one bedroom and bath on each floor and full kitchen. Outdoor porch and balcony. Friendly staff and very good food. Short 10 minute shuttle van to the shore provided.
