I've stayed in hostels all over the world, so am prepared for less than stellar conditions. But this hostel pleasantly surprised me. It was super clean & tidy -- even with a full house of guests! The kitchen is very spacious and well organized, plenty of showers & toilets to share and some very nice common areas, including a comfortable courtyard and TV room (that I used for quiet reading, as there was nobody watching TV in there!)

My stay at the point Loma hostel for 1 week was great one of the best hostels I've ever seen and stayed at. Very clean, organized, peaceful environment in a quiet neighborhood of point loma also really helpful polite staff. Everything in the hostel is brand new and well maintained. They even have a gas bbq which was great i went fishing for a day and caught yellow fin tuna and brought it back and grilled it on the bbq. The hostel is Close to ocean beach and Fishermen landing. It's a awesome hostel for solo travelers or groups to stay at and go fishing in San Diego.

HI San Diego Point Loma is a really cool place to stay for the hostel type traveller: young, solo visitors who are willing to mingle with other visitors. It's located in a neighborhood so it's away from the wildness of downtown and gaslamp, and the vibe I got was like staying in a large house. The common areas are very spacious and generous with the amenities: large screen TV, piano, laundry room, tons of kitchen space and comfortable indoor and outdoor seating areas. A huge bonus are the equipment available either to borrow for free (surfboards and paddleboards!!) or $10 the whole day (bikes!). I went on a slow day and only for one night but I overall had a great experience. My only minor complaints were the mustiness of the rooms and my sheets which also had holes in them. I think this is unavoidable for busy budget places like hostels. Also as a result of the quiet location as well as it being car-centric socal, the property is not well connected with public transit. But who cares since Lyft is easy to use here. It's 15 minutes away from the airport so the ride will for sure be less than $10. I still would recommend this to my solo traveller friends and hope to come back again in the future.

11'x6' (really small) Private room with shared bathroom , HVAC vent rattled, AC control was in a lockbox very odd (they will come up and adjust it for you if you ask), the door was difficult to open/close (expanded) and made a loud noise when closing, so in the mornings you can hear the doors opening closing in other rooms easily on the second floor. Continental breakfast was good, coffee was ok(they stopped offering pancakes), parking is a challenge after 3pm but doable, everything was clean, 4 mbps wifi, VERY mellow hostel. I think I paid $97 a night for 2 people. I think next time Airb&b would be a better value or if you don't have a car then stay in there downtown hostel.

The overall experience I got from this place breathtaking. From the open plan layout of the kitchen and eating area to the cosy outside area which is lit beautifully at night. Just the place to make new friends. The staff where wolcoming and friendly. In fact when I left for LA, I forgot my expensive paragliding equipment in their secure storage room. I thought I would have to drive back and get it. But oh no, the staff helped me FedEx everything to the next hostel. Absolute 5 stars all around. Thanks so much for the great experience! I will always use HI hostels, they are tops!

This was hands down my best hostel experience. The hostel is located in a quiet safe area and close to everything. The property is comfortable and very, very clean. Friendly efficient staff. I was truly appreciative when one member went the 'extra mile' to help me with first aid and comfort supplies when I injured my ankle. This property would be my first choice whenever I'm in the area.

This hostel was beyond my expectations. Everyone was so nice , the staff was amazing, so helpful and kind. The ping pong table gives you a great opportunity to meet people and get social. I had an awesome time staying at Hi San diego Point Loma !

Well organized, clean, well-run hostel. Nice rooms, excellent kitchen, great common areas. You can walk to a lot of restaurants and to a supermarket. One improvement could be the breakfast. They could add hard-boiled eggs, these are very inexpensive. The coffee reminded me of Abraham Lincoln, when he said to a waiter, "if this is tea bring me coffee, if this is coffee bring me tea," truly awful and weak.

A very pleasant old-fashioned country-style hostel. The main room, where you enter on the first floor, is a very well-equipped kitchen with dining and work spaces. Off this room are 1) a TV room with a large flat-screen TV 2) a laundry room with washers and dryers 3) a large outdoor courtyard with sofas, tables, chairs. The sleeping rooms are located upstairs, with a large balcony area outside the steeping rooms with chairs and tables. There is a large grocery store about one block away. Beer and wine are allowed in the evenings. Given these factors, it's very easy to have a nice meal at the hostel. There's also a good inexpensive Thai restaurant located about a block away. A bus connects the hostel to the airport and the Amtrak Station in downtown San Diego (line 923) for $2.25. However, service on Saturdays occurs only to the airport, and there is no bus service on Sundays. It was easy to sleep in the quiet 6-bed female dorm where I stayed, although the mattress was somewhat deformed -- not ideal. There is intermittent noise from airplanes due to the proximity to San Diego's airport -- especially beginning about 6 am in the morning. Otherwise this hostel affords a very restful experience. The staff was very helpful and considerate. The clientele were interesting, considerate, and sociable.

Solid place to stay. Clean and secure, friendly service. A little bit sterile from my perspective but that may have been due to the crowd that was staying there. I was concerned about parking but was able to find a spot easily both nights I was there. Would recommend.
