Unfortunately, this was the worst holiday rental we've experienced after many years of using both VRBO and other hosting websites.The location was lovely and the property has plenty of potential, but the cleanliness and maintenance were well below the standard we expected. On arrival there was a strong musty smell throughout the downstairs. We found animal hair, dust and food debris on the sofa, rug and carpets, and ended up spending around an hour cleaning before we could settle in. The fridge contained mould and old food, and the freezer was so full of ice that there was very little usable space.The most concerning issue came on our first night when we found a mouse on one of the beds in the twin room. While trying to locate it, we found mouse droppings under the bed, gaps beneath the skirting boards and several damp and mould patches on the walls.We raised these issues with the host, who asked us to provide photographs, which we did. After receiving them, they didn't help and just told us to continue the matter through the VRBO Resolution Centre (which doesn't exist, but the VRBO customer support was able to help me).It's a real shame because the property itself could be a lovely place to stay, but based on our experience we couldn't recommend it unless these issues are properly addressed.
