It is haunted and unique and lovely! The windows were very small so if you’re uncomfortable in tight spaces you may not enjoy it.

Stately. Elegant. Historic. Politically important to the governance of the state being in near the capital and legislative buildings.

Great location and the valet staff was awesome. The front desk staff was super cheerful as well. I love an old historic hotel and this place didn’t disappoint.

Older hotel, but lots of charm! Restaurant was great!

The rooms are beautiful. Unfortunately they were not stocked for 2 people in the area of cups and coffee.

Great location. Across from a beautiful park. Great Restraunt

Beautiful historic hotel. Perfect for an overnight on ou way through town. We wandered the lobby looking at the photos and cartoons for quite some time. Neighborhood was fine for walking, maybe not too late after dark.

I arrived very early on the morning of my reservation, and had already requested early check in at the time of my booking. The staff were very helpful with hurrying things along so that by 11:00 AM I was given my key and directed to my room, and for that I am very thankful. The restaurant attached to the hotel has a nice, if small, breakfast menu of fresh, organic, farm-to-table food that was served quickly and tasted great. As I was still awaiting my early check-in at that time, the waitstaff were very lenient in allowing me to linger a while after my meal while I charged my cell phone, which made the wait much more comfortable than it might have been otherwise. The room was comfortable and spacious enough to move around in freely without bumping into furniture. From the 9th floor, where I stayed, there was a great city view, and I could hear the live music from the park across the street very well from my room. Unfortunately, the same was true of the shouting, fighting, and carrying on by the park's population of vagrants. The noise was a bit of a disappointment, as it went on until well after 2:00 AM with drunken men and women loitering around the door of the liquor store adjacent to the hotel. Overall, though, I had a great stay, and the hotel met all of my expectations and needs while I was there. I would recommend The Citizen Hotel to friends and family, and will very happily stay there again on my next visit to Sacramento.

Friendly staff. Great location near everything. The valet parking was handy and we had a great time.

I went to the Citizen Hotel on J Street in Sacramento for New Year's Eve, and it was so great! I got a corner room, and everything was clean, artfully decorated and cozy! A beautiful room! I asked the maid for extra soap and she was so kind and sweet and got it right away. The staff at the front desk were excellent too. This hotel is very close to everything, including public parking. Good restaurants in the vicinity as well. There is a nice little city park across the street. I loved the feel and looks of this hotel. If you are looking for a hotel that doesn't look sterile-modern, or motel-drab,...try this little gem in Downtown!

We have stayed at The Citizen over two dozen times. Hands down our favorite hotel in Sacramento. Friendly staff, unique charm, great location, and The Grange serves amazing food and drinks.

Good location, efficient valet parking with friendly and helpful attendants. Reception not particularly friendly but competent and quick. Check out was also quick. Restaurant was pricey so we did not go there. A good experience.

I was shocked at the hotel charging $10 a day to use the refrigerator! And $3 for a bottle of water is crazy. Very one knows those bottles cost 25 cents. No one likes to feel ripped off.

I adored this hotel. So convenient to many downtown Sacramento activities. I felt like I was walking into a Harry Potter adventure. Staff was super friendly. My bed was SO comfortable and my view was lovely. Great restaurant and bar and so much nicer than the giant hotel a few blocks away where my colleagues chose to stay. I will definitely stay here again and again!

The staff has been amazing over the past few weeks I've been coming into Sacramento from San Diego. I think the rooms are cool. I love all the political literature on the walls. I think the rooms were fairly small though. All is good though.

I will be coming to Sacramento for the next 10 weekends. I will be looking at coming to the hotel for each weekend.
