Hotel Grifo has the best customer service in the entire hotel industry! Everyone there gave us the most helpful recommendations for restaurants, tours, and tips on exploring the area. The hotel itself is around the corner from the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and the Roman Forum. It's surrounded by great food and shopping, and is walkable to everything else. The complimentary breakfast was also great! We can't thank you all enough for making our stay so enjoyable, hope to be back soon!

I often go on citybreaks, but almost never review hotels. Usually they are ok, but nothing really special to write about. Grifo is something different: it might not be the best looking or most comofortable, but it is certainly the most welcoming hotel i have ever been to - the people there are simply amazing (it really does make a difference!). The location is perfect - 5 minutes of walking to Coloseum and Forum Romanum, maybe 15 to Fontana di Trevi. Rooms are spacious and clean, and comfortable. Although the street is busy, the noise is low. Two things could be improved: wifi (to weak to watch any streaming services, fine for other purposes) and variety of breakfasts (food is good, but choice limited). Overall the ratio of money to quality is excellent. Highly recommended.

We booked a room through Hotels.com and we were really excited to visit Hotel Grifo after reading all the good reviews about it. But upon check-in, we were told that our room is in an annex building about a 6-minute walk away from the hotel - we were really confused as we weren’t informed at the time of our reservation. Yes, the booking confirmation said “Double room - Annex (Di Monti)” - but who would have thought that the hotel room would be located on a separate street and a 6-minute walk away? When we walked to the annex building - we had a hard time locating it as there was no hotel sign posts, nothing written anywhere that indicated that it was a hotel. We finally found the “hotel” which was an ambiguous brown door part of a seemingly abandoned, dilapidated residential building and noted a tiny note on the door of the size of your thumb that says “Hotel Di Monti”. We entered using a key and followed the instructions the receptionist gave us and found ourselves walking up a dark stairway to the third floor of the building (with no elevator). It was dodgy as there was no windows in the hallway and it barely had any light. We did not like the vibe of the place and did not like the idea of being 6 minutes from the reception, especially when we would then have to walk all the way back (uphill) if we needed to use the hotel facilities or to go for breakfast. The room in Di Monti was old, small and dirty. There was a window but it couldn’t be opened so we felt trapped and suffocated. Thankfully we managed to ring the hotel and got a replacement in another annex building which this time, was located directly opposite the main Hotel Grifo. The new room was decent and we felt more at ease. Just thought that people should be aware of this before they book with Hotel Grifo. It was not a pleasant experience for us but overall we were grateful that the receptionist was accommodating enough to replace the room for us.

An excellent small hotel with big attention to service. Not the largest of rooms but clean, tidy with decent shower & bed. Breakfast included was good too, basic but plentiful to start each day (5 days total). 24 hr reception & room doors built like a bank vault gave a good sense of security too. All hotel staff extremely helpful suggesting some of the not so obvious locations to visit in the city & smaller local authentic restaurants you would easily miss, plus some good advice on times to visit & not so busy entrances to all the major attractions. All of this is perfect for us as we spent the whole day sightseeing & then dining out in the evening. Great location easily reached on foot from the rail station (15-20mins) & short walk to the Colosseum & Forum (5-10mins). Thank you Hotel Grifo for a great stay, highly recommend this as a smaller hotel that puts you in the heart & soul of Rome.

Hotel Grifo is ideally located for visiting Rome on foot. It’s a typical Italian hotel with fairly small rooms. They are very clean and comfortable. The location is quiet, and relaxing. All the staff are welcoming, and their knowledge of the attractions and where to eat is superb. I would not hesitate to return to Hotel Grifo or recommend to family and friends

The grifo hotel is in a great location! The staff is amazing, nice and helpful. The room was small but had a big shower and it was very clean! They cleaned our room every day and changed the towels. We only one problem, the water was hot but not hot enough.. for those who like hot hot water will have a problem..but apart from that it was lovely!!!

Excellent Location, Wonderful Helpful Staff, Nice Breakfasts, Great Value. That said, the rooms are quite small and the showers are beyond tiny. But really, how much time are you going to be in the room when all of Rome is just steps away? Closest attractions are Colleseum and Forum.

The Hotel Grifo is an absolutely lovely hotel and couldn’t be better located. It is on a small cobblestone street that is lined with cafes and just a quick walk from the Coliseum. Just 1-2 minutes down the street is a Piazza that is just gorgeous; a very relaxed gathering spot around the fountain. My daughter and I walked to all the major sites and from the hotel, the very furthest was 30 minutes but the majority were 15 minutes away. The staff all went out of their way to make our trip even more special. They pointed out the best places to go and the best routes to get there. I was shown the best gelato shop to go to and the best place to watch the sunset. I really enjoyed their rooftop patio also. The room we had was small but very comfortable, clean, and had a lot of character. The breakfast was very good. The next time we come to Rome, we will most definitely be coming back to Hotel Grifo!

Great location! just a 5-10 minute walk from the Coliseum and Roman Forum. Small place. Small rooms, but clean and no issues. The AC worked (as we were there over the summer, and it was HOT, 90's everyday). The staff was great. There were three of them that we'd always chat a few minutes with each time we were in/out. They also recommended Triste pizza a few blocks away, and for that alone, I will always be grateful, as it has the best pizza I've had in my 45-year life! They had a cozy little breakfast area. They could serve eggs, etc., but we stuck with the lighter, and typical European faire and juices. We had a two-bed unit with a queen and a single, for the three of us. Not a single complaint about this place, and at a totally reasonable price. HIGHLY recommended!

This past week was our second stay here and first off-season visit to Rome. The hotel offers basic requirements (clean, comfort,Wifi, location, affordable) but the excellent staff makes El Grifo the place to stay. They are professional, hospital and engaging. They helped this young at heart, new to European travel couple feel safe and savvy to go it alone in this wondrous city. Do try their restaurant recommendations, "La Tavernelle", "Cafe Di Monti" and a wood fired thin crust pizza place this Jersey/NYC/Philly gal can't get enough of. Note, we have a son in the industry who could book us in the best hotels at a discount, but this area in Rome is so full of life, so close to major sites without being an overt tourist trap. Here you feel close to the heart of the people and their daily routine. The staff graciously booked taxis, transfers, special exhibits, entertainment venues in this quaint and modest hotel. The breakfast choices(free if you book direct, small charge when booked on internet sites) were delicious, albeit limited. There is now an early evening wine welcome for guests, a much appreciated gesture. El Grifo is also one of very few buildings with a small elevator in this 500 year old+ Monti District. It is an easy 10 minute stroll through the charming cobblestoned neighborhood to the Colosseum past restaurants, a variety of local shops; small clubs, wine bars in a young, vibrant working community. There is virtually no street noise, beds were kind to our aching backs. I have a severe smoke allergy and cautioned ahead of our visit...not a whiff detected. We are returning in the fall for a few more days knowing we will be welcomed by a staff looking to make our stay enjoyable, comfortable and "Roma". Who knows, for a moment you may even catch Rosa singing while she works!
