Hotel Grifo

We stayed in a guest house nearby and we only used the reception and breakfast services in Grifo hotel. However, the Grifo staff (Eva and Rosa mainly) were exceptionally friendly, helpful and hospitable. Breakfast was ok, but its concept, although understandable from economic aspect, is rather unimaginative and demanding (for the staff). We had eggs 4 days in a row, I believe that our egg consumption is exhausted until end-2018. Otherwise, all contacts we had with Grifo hotel staff was exceptional!

We chose the small two persons room. The room itself lived up to it's name and was very small. Even the bed was shorter than a normal bed and our feet kinda went over. There were no fridge and the room had moldy smell. The building is 400 years old so that maybe the reason. "Luckily" the air condition was malfunctioning in our room and we got a free upgrade to a bigger room (3-persons) which was much nicer, spacious, had a fridge and a normal bed and no moldy smell. The service and location were excellent and couldn't be better. So pick a bigger room and you got a nice hotel.

I wanted a hotel close to major Roman sites. This hotel fit the bill and more. The rooms are small but whistle clean and the people who run the hotel could not be any more accommodating. It had an old world Italian charm in a great location with wonderfully sweet staff. I would definitely recommend this hotel

We spent 7 nights here and definitely recommend it whether you are a new or returning visitor. The location in Monti is perfect - a close walk to major sites like the Colosseum and Forum, and only about 30 minutes to the Vatican on foot. Located in a quaint and quiet part of the old city with scores of affordable, local (ie not touristy) restaurants. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly - Eva at the front desk was especially great with mapping out day trips, complete with little known secrets. The breakfast is generous, fresh, and very reasonably priced. We had one of two rooms (#40) with private terrace access on the 4th floor and it was perfect to be able to step outside and enjoy the rooftop garden views. The room was quite spacious and so was the bathroom, though the shower is very narrow and would probably be impossible for large people to use (tall and thin would work, wide would not). Everything was clean and well taken care of. A delightful experience overall.

Wonderful, happy hotel. Room had everything we needed for a long weekend break. Very helpful, knowledgeable staff. Good breakfast choices. Situated in a quiet area of the city centre, near all the main tourist attractions except Vatican City. 5 minute walk to the coleseum, 10 minute walk to The Travis Fountain & Spanish steps

If you like smaller hotels with some character, this is the hotel for you. The rooms are small, but nicely decorated, modern bathroom, even a tiny elevator retrofitted into this 400 year old building. Hard working, English speaking, helpful staff. Great breakfast. Even a little bar if you are to tired to go out. 2 blocks to the subway station. 10 euro cab ride to the train station. Would definitely stay here again.

This experience was amazing from the very start. When we first arrived we were greeted by two younger gentleman working the front desk (I wish I had gotten their names). The check-in process was the best check-in experience I have ever received. They asked if we have ever been to Rome and when they found out it was our first trip they spent the next 10-15 minutes going over a map with every little detail, advice and recommendation we could handle. Their advise saved us hours and hours of waiting in lines. The recommendations they made for food was amazing! They were truly on of the best parts of the whole trip. Plus, once they completed going over everything they upgraded our room to one with a terrace on the fourth floor! Amazing!! All the other staff members working were amazing and very helpful! The only thing that was slightly weird is that you have to leave the key at the front desk when you go out and they do not check any ID when you come back. You just asked for the key for your room. Anyone could just come in and ask. It was a little better once they remembered us and knew who we were but at first I would expect them to ask to see ID.

My wife and I found this hotel through an online travel agent (Tripmasters), and it was perfect for our time in Rome. We just needed a room that was centrally located and was affordable. The front desk went above and beyond, with restaurant recommendations, sight seeing tips, and general advice... everything we needed to know to get the most out of our trip. My wife thought the room was smaller than expected, and the included breakfast did not include meat, cheese, or fresh fruit, but for a couple euros we ordered these items, and were very good. But if all you need is coffee, they have a wonderful coffee machine! The service at breakfast was excellent. I was impressed with how nice everyone was.

This was a wonderful hotel. The staff were excellent! Rosa, Ava and Marzo made our stay feel like we were staying with friends. The greeted us warmly, provided daily tips on how and where to go, provided names of local great restaurants, helped us when we had a problem, called taxis and airport shuttles and on and on. Highly recommend the Grifo! Located just around the corner from the Coliseum, Forum, and Arch of Constantine. Within walking distance of all the great sites in Rome.

Hotel Grifo is located in the Ancient Quarter, 2 blocks from the Colosseum. This hotel has a lot of charm and character and the staff is outstanding and are multilingual. They go out of their way to give you the “inside scoop” on where to eat how to avoid lines etc. The hotel is located in an area with many restaurants and bars - which the locals frequent because of quality and value. It’s location cannot be beat as it is a 10-15 min walk to all the classic sites. Pros: decent breakfast buffet (you can order a more complete meal for a few more €’s), WiFi is free although a little slow, there is a small elevator. The standard rooms are small but adequate. Cons: the street can get a bit noisy, so ask for a higher floor if you’re a light sleeper. We would definitely stay here again. Our pictures are of the Terrace Units which are worth the upgrade!
