Hotel Grifo

When we arrived at Hotel Grifo we were greeted by the most helpful concierge, I've ever met. Much appreciated! The rooms were clean and we had no complaints regarding the roomservice. I would definitely stay at Hotel Grifo again. Also the Monti area is perfect - not too crowded with tourists and within walking distance to i.e. Trastevere and Colosseum.

We were here for 5 nights. When we checked in to our 'double room with balcony' on the 4th floor, we discovered that it was a shared balcony for smokers!! It was terrible. Noisy, with the smell of cigarette smoke wafting into our room. The bath room was hopeless with nowhere to put toiletries and the smallest shower we had ever seen! We asked to be moved and fortunately there was a room with a balcony on the first floor (the only other room with a balcony) not facing the street. It was quiet and had a bigger shower and shelves in the bathroom to put toiletries. Otherwise we would have had to move to another hotel. Breakfast was adequate and for an extra fee you could have eggs. A short walk away we found some nice little restaurants and some Indian and a Japanese restaurant. A nice change from pizza and pasta and gelato (not much else on offer). The staff at the Hotel Grifo were lovely and very helpful and gave good advice on places to visit. It was the saving grace. There is a bar (also the breakfast room) where you can get drinks or take them up to your room, but we did not know about this until the day we were leaving, as we were not told about it. Would we return? Probably because the hotel was close to the Colosseum and other attractions and the staff were nice. Maximum 2 star hotel.. .

The hotel itself is pretty basic, there's not much to do in the evening in terms of chilling out in the room before going to sleep. The staff are amazing, they're so friendly and very helpful. The location was perfect - right in the centre of Rome and a few minutes walk from all of the attractions and sights.

The wifi could be a bit slow and our room was very small with no kind of view, but they are the only 2 slight negatives as it was very clean with a/c and tbh we weren't in it much anyway and for the price in the centre of Rome it was fab. Breakfast was simple but at 5 euros very reasonable. However the location is brilliant, not just in terms of it's location to most of the sights but also on a nice cobbled side street that was quiet but still close to some great restaurants, snack bars, local shops and a pharmacy and 3 mins walk to the nearest tube which is one stop from the central Termini. The staff was so friendly and helpful and their tips for what to visit and when were brilliant and enabled us to skip queues, see things we wouldn't have known about and eat and drink in some great local restaurants and go for breakfast where the locals go in a coffee bar. There was also a free welcome drink which we enjoyed on the terrace on the 4th floor (there is a lift to all floors). Thoroughly recommend

The location was amazing, right in the heart of Rome near the ancient sites, 5 minute walk to the Forum, Coliseum, 10 minute walk to Trevi Fountain, Pantheon or Termini station. 25-30 minute walk to the Vatican. Amazing food options all around within 5-10 minute walking distance. Lively night scene with lots of outdoor bars and even a few dance clubs if you are interested. The service and helpfulness of the staff was also wonderful and almost everyone spoke excellent English. Eva and Luighi were our main contacts and they worked SO HARD. They were always so helpful in making us feel welcome and gave us wonderful suggestions for dining or sight-seeing. We did run into a small problem on our first night where the AC was not working properly. They did their best to make us comfortable that night with a circulating fan, but it was a rough night. The next day they offered to move us without us insisting and the room was wonderful. They also discounted our first night, without us insisting again. Very nice people, always smiles and ready to help you in an instant. We've already recommended Hotel Grifo to some friends visiting in Rome for their honeymoon also. We had a lovely private balcony that I spent some time smoking Cigars on and there was free internet, although coverage was a bit spotty in some locations. The bathroom was also nice and clean, although it could have used a towel hook. The bed was not as comfortable as we would like, my wife struggled with this more than I did but once the AC was sorted we were happy overall with the accommodations.

Hotel Grifo is situated in a small side street about 7 minutes walk from the Colosseum and the Forum. Metro stations are close by for anyone needing them, and the buses run frequently from via Nazionale, just a few minutes walk away. The hotel itself is old and well looked after. The reception staff (we remember Luigi, Eva, Alen and Rosa) have unbelievable knowledge of the city, the sights, places to eat, visit, how to get around and anything else you could need. They were all most helpful, cheerful and capable. They helped us make the most of our few days in the city. We stayed in a room in a separate building; rooms are basic but very clean. The room was bigger than those in the main building and had air conditioning. It was reasonably quiet and we were pleased to have a change of bedding and towels every day as it was so hot. Each morning breakfast was served in the main hotel. There was a good choice of bread and pastries, as well as the offer of scrambled eggs and turkey. Coffee and other hot drinks were available from a machine and fresh juices, cheeses and spreads and biscuits were on offer also. There are plenty of small eateries within walking distance, whether gelaterias, cafes, bars or restaurants. A couple of small supermarkets are close by too. I would recommend this hotel for anyone with limited time, as the reception staff are so helpful.

The location of the hotel is excellent. You can visit all the major sightseeings on foot, except Vatican. There is also a metro station nearby. The rooms are small and old fashioned but very clean and tidy. Maybe a renovation is necessary but it's ok. The receptions are very professional and polite. Do not hesitate to ask them whatever info you like about your staying. I have also to mention that the breakfast is well cooked, with very fresh ingredients and tasty. Not something visually spectacular or with high oh factor but very tasty and high quality. In general, I am very satisfied with this hotel.

Hotel Grifo is ideally located within walking distance of many of the major historical sites of Rome as well as being in the centre of a terrific cafe and restaurant district. While the room a great value nothing stands out better than the very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend

The staff are awesome! The room was very basic, similar to a dorm setting. It is very close to the coliseum and some nice eating establishments. There is also a cute balcony area on the top of the building, where you can take a glass of wine from the bar to enjoy the city view.

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel for a 5 nights.booked it after reading the reviews!! prose: Very friendly staff with lots of great suggestions for the restaurants (that s why I am rating the service a 4).the location is about five minutes from the Colosseum and a bit far from the other attractions. we took cabs to the hotel at night.it is away from the crowd.Clean with comfortable beds. top floor rooms have shared balcony which was nice. rooms are small which did not bother us. Cons:I have to give it an average rating because the wifi and the TV reception at our room did not work most of the time.if you need to be connected to internet for work you will be disappointed . Our fridge did not work we had to store my medication at the restaurants fridge. soaps were not provided everyday needed to ask for them(very tiny suitable for one time use) . the hairdryer did not work but asked for another and it was provided, the breakfast was minimal at the best with choice of turkey or salami which they did not have after the first day. you get your variety of coffees from the self serve vending type machine! Over all the only memorable thing from our stay was the friendliness of the staff
