We booked Hotel Cinquantatre for a long weekend of exploring Rome. Given the relative low cost of the room prices to some hotels in the area, this hotel represents supreme value for money. Although the room was a little bit dated and small, the fact is we only wanted a room for sleeping in as generally you are out for much of the day. For those purposes, the hotel is fantastic. The other reviews are accurate in the sense the hotel is thin etc but it gives the place some charm. Breakfast is bread and pastry heavy with a small selection of fruit (oranges, apples) and plain yoghurt, with a coffee machine for caffeine fixes. The other thing to mention is the hotel location. It is located in the North-East of the city centre but is so close to many of the tourist hotspots. As a moderate-quick walker I'd say the hotel is no more than about 10 minutes away from the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain, and about 20-25 minutes to the Coliseum and 45 minutes to the Vatican. You can absolutely walk everywhere although the Metro is very good also for getting around. Also visiting in Christmas time is beautiful as all the shops and streets have their Christmas lights. As we have thrown coins in the Trevi fountain, we will absolutely be returning to Rome and to Hotel Cinquantatre!!
Very good location, we walked everywhere as it relatively close to all the main touristic places and the train station. Although it doesn't look great from the outside, staff is nice, rooms are clean and good size, bed is very comfortable and bathroom is fine. Breakfast is served in the top floor, and it is very nice! Value for money is really good, as it is cheaper than other hotels in the area and it offers just what you need for a good stay. It also offers a luggage storage, which is a plus.
I booked four nights at this hotel . Although this is a budget hotel it was perfect for our needs . The price we paid was €300 for four nights bed and breakfast via booking.com , Amazing value when back in the U.K you cant even get a good travel lodge for that price and you definately wouldnt find anything in that price range in London . We were very pleasantly surprised . The hotel is narrow and tall so the reception area is tiny and it has a small elivator . The staff couldnt be more friendly and helpfull and were very helpfull . The lady who served breakfast was lovely . The room although a little dated was plenty big enough for two , comfortable bed , en suite with a seperate shower cubicle ( good powerfull shower ) bidet and toilet . In the room was a small fridge / mini bar and TV . Breakfast is continental , on the top floor , a small dining area with a beautifull terrace . The breakfast consisted of lovely proper italian coffees/ tea , delicious pastries , cereal , toast . Hard boiled eggs . More than sufficient considering the price we paid !! Location wise you wont find better than this 100 yards from Berberini metro station , 10 mins walk to Trevi fountain and 15 mins to Spanish Steps , 50-100 yards to reseraunts , the hotel is perfect for exploring on foot / metro . Rome is crazy prices for everything , expect to pay at least double for everything including Italian products which are half the price in the UK . The onlything I would change is having tea and coffee making facilities in the bedroom and an english t.v station here are a few tips to make your euros go further and to make your stay more enjoyable Wear stout shoes because the cobbled streets do take their toll on your feet. Travel by train from the Airport ....Leonardo express train takes 32 mins and is €14 euros as apposed to an hour by taxi at around €45-50 euros . Buy a metro tickets , they go by time rather than by journey . It really is easy as there is only 2 lines ( line A and Line b) €1.50 for 100 mins or €6 for 24hrs €12 for a 3 day pass . The metro is great for when your feet start to ache! Try eating at all you can eat buffets , or set or buy sandwiches etc from co-op supermarket , tourist menu’s otherwise you will be in for a nasty surprise . Beer and alcohol in general is ridiculously expensive. €7.50 for a small 400ml neer , €12-14 euro for a cereal bowl full of pasta !!! Looking forward to come to this hotel again . Thank you so much for looking after us...we had a wonderfull time
This is the second time we stayed at this hotel. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Great location, All major sites are within walking distance, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, the Vatican and all other major sites. There is also a large and varied selection of restaurants in the area. The complimentary breakfast was fresh and overall delicious with a lovely selection, with the added bonus of being able to sit on the beautiful terrace. The rooms were a decent size with a good size bathroom with lovely clean towels every day. Clean and comfortable, great Wi-Fi, will be staying on our next visit to Rome.
I stayed here for one night on a work trip to Rome, As I checked in at 5pm and checked out at 5am, i didn't really get to experience anything such as breakfast, but I can confirm the bed is comfy and the location is excellent. The hotel also felt very clean If i needed to go to Rome again, I wouldn't rule this hotel out
Hotel is really great. Location is perfect: metro is near, you can walk to spanish staircase, fountain of Trevie. The hotel is clean and personal is friendly, they always help us when we ask. There is a little terrace on the roof, you can take breakfast there.
This looks like a family hotel and were very friendly. Close to Metro. So much to see walking from there to center. Old fashioned but had a good AC for what I was expecting. I would go back if I'm in a budget again.
The best things about the hotel is location (Barbirini metro station is literally a 30 second walk) and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Also the hotel is located on a side street so it was quite and peaceful. The standard double room we had was a bit small but passable. It has a small wall mounted tv, a small fridge and safe which was useful. The furniture in the room and overall decor is a little dated (but I suppose it all gives a 'roman feel' to the whole experience). There is a small cosy rooftop area where breakfast is served (incidentally, there's no kettle in the room so if you want hot water/to make cup of tea etc you need to head up to the top floor where you'll find a selection of teas and a kettle). Breakfast was pretty standard- boiled eggs, a selection of pastries, fruit etc. The hotel wifi is a bit temperamental (eg we had difficulties logging on and kept on cutting off). Overall, if you are looking for a no-frills, quite, friendly, convenient hotel then this is a good choice.
Stayed in the Hotel for 3 nights with my partner. The hotel does need a little updating in terms of decor, but the staff were very helpful and the room was a good size. Everything you could need from a hotel. The Location is the best part of the hotel, close to the metro and loads of restaurants and little shops so you never have to travel far for food. About a 10 minute walk to most sights and about 20 minutes from the Colosseum, there is also a fountain area close to the hotel so there was always a point of reference. We had a lovely stay and we have no complaints.
Room was clean, had air conditioning, and clean linen. Staff greets you when you come in everyday. Common area balcony is available along with sweet breakfast. The stairs were a struggle but not too bad. I would stay here again.
