This hotel had a makeover in the reasonably recent past and it is decent appearing. Our sleeping room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. Internet availability was spotty: sometimes okay other times nonexistent. Breakfast was okay, just! Kitchen staff were unpleasant, preferring to remain in the kitchen chatting in Russian rather than assisting guests in the dining room. In the bar area a rude young woman preferring to listen to loud rap music rather than attend to needs of guests. Reception staff generally tried to be friendly and helpful.
We stayed 4 nights in this Hotel . Location excellent . Right in the Old Town so perfect . Hotel itself lovely . Rooms clean & tidy when you first arrive . House keeping after our first night..... Non existent... All they did was fluff the quilt up & that's it . Bath, & sink were not cleaned, room not hovered, bits on carpet . Empty shower bottles just left on side for 4 days until I got rid of them myself . ( no big deal just a point they were not doing there job) . We had tea making facilities .... Our cups etc were not changed once or cleaned . House keeping in my view is a big let down . Breakfast ok .... The carpet in front of the Breakfast Buffet is disgusting & needs changing asap , they need something that is easy clean ( it put me off my breakfast )
We stayed for 2 nights. We arrived at the bus station and it was a fairly easy walk from there. Just had to drag suitcase down some steps to get to the other side of the road. Location couldn't be any better. Across the street from the Italian consulate, a few doors from the Kempinski hotel that isn't open yet, and right at the Old Town. We walked everywhere from the hotel. Rooms were satisfactory. Beds were comfortable. We overlooked a courtyard, so it was quiet. Shower worked well. In the eve, we sat at the lobby bar for a beer. Love the exposed brick in the lobby, very uneven and very old. Walking into the hotel in the eve, there would be one person at the desk. Sometimes, that person didn't even look up. I would have felt better if staff paid attention to who was coming and going.
Have stayed in lots of places but rating this as a 4 star hotel is a joke. Photos give the impression its a modern up to date hotel but really it needs an upgrade bigtime as everything is well worn. Lack of service as we opened the door to the hotel dragging our bags up 5 steps, whilst a young man just sat not helping us t is not a good look to start with. The rooms are awful and old fashioned and we supposedly had an upgrade, whilst our other family member stayed in what was a box room under the stairs. Internet did not work in room had to use lobby and no coffee or tea making facilities?? 4 star. Room clean up on Sunday theoretically doesn't start till after 3.00pm for guests staying longer than a night. Not a good thing when you come back to your room for a rest after being out for 5 hours. As i said location good but thats about all. Breakfast ok.
Saw some of the reviews seemed they were lacking. However, we were there for one evening only, and the experience was good. Did not dine, nor drink there, all I can say is the room was rustic and interesting. Location was in old town Riga. Great location. Dining establishments abound. We asked if it was possible to stay later and for a small fee we were allowed to extend. So, our experience was good. I would recommend.
Very charming hotel, but I had my room on the ground floor in the back building. Had to use earplugs. Normally, the hotel rooms facing the street are noisier, but here is a constant running between buildings and the walls seem to be razor thin. The location is great, though. Right in the centre of Riga’s Old Town. Friendly staff.
we used this hotel as a base for spending a couple of days exploring Riga old town. Our room was in the attic complete with a open terrace. The room was comfortable well equipped, although the wifi connection speed was a little slow. The breakfast was a little disappointing, with the restaurant decor being not nearly as innovative as the rest of the hotel and the food fell a little short of what might be expected. Overall however, this was a good place to stay and we would stay here again
At breakfast the egs were made yesterday, not four star hotel breakfast 10€ for that. There were only one toilet at whole hotel lobby area and no toilet paper!! It was rainy day and no umbrellas to borrow....4 stars, no way!
We visited with a group of friends, so had multiple rooms and a chance to compare experiences over a week. We agreed location is excellent, initial impressions mostly good. But then the disappointments start. Mostly with housekeeping where little things are randomly overlooked. E.g. Replacing towels, soap, tissues, or sometimes room not serviced at all! Some rooms had refrigerators that simply did not cool. A friend put some cheese in there and what a stink that produced due to lack of cooling! House keeping staff seem pleasant enough, so I suspect the problem is poor training and supervision. Front desk staff get more than their fair share of complaints which to their credit, they do try hard to resolve. Staying one or two days probably fine, but until they pick up their service standards I cannot recommend longer stays.
We spent a few nights at the Old City Boutique Hotel during our recent visit to Riga. It is in a good location and our room was clean and had all the amenities we needed (wifi, room safe, minibar & hairdryer). The staff was very helpful and accommodating with directions and recommendations. Good value of money!
