Holiday Inn Express Chester2.5 out of 5.0

I have mixed reviews for this facility. It is an older facility where they have done some face lifting; however, more needs to be accomplished-especially in the bathroom. The room was spacious and clean. Surprised there were no HBO premium channels. The gal at check in was pleasant and friendly and even offered fresh baked cookies. The morning check out gal seemed preoccupied with something...no smile...no emotion. An okay standard...I guess.
Very clean room with a comfy bed. I was surprised how quiet the room was. As a frequent stayer at Holiday inns the breakfast could be a bit better with more of a variety during the week. - Loved Riptides and the Croaker's Spot restaurants. Captain D's was nasty!!
Excellent friendly staff. Clean well-kept room, slept well (no noise), standard HIE breakfast choices (eggs, bananas, cinnamon rolls, oatmeal, yogurt, sausage, bacon, cereals, etc.). Good location near Richmond, local historic venues, I-95 and I-295. This hotel is undergoing a renovation, however the management has done well in minimizing the impact to guests. I spent 6 nights in one of the renovated rooms, very nice. This is the 6th year that the Chester HIE has been the base for my annual vacation. I will definitely be back next year.
Check in person was super nice Room was clean and appeared to be recently renovated Breakfast choices were good and kept stocked Room was quiet The only negatives: Sink hot and cold are backwards There is no entrance from back parking to hotel
I was going to wait until I checked out to write my review but this is just unacceptable. This is a great hotel with a respectable name. The location is great for I-95 users and it's surrounded by a lot of restaurants. It's not too far from Petersburg or Richmond. This is an ideal location for a stop along the other destinations. However, the front desk staff is ABSOLUTELY UNPLEASANT! I have never interacted with such a hotel experience. Their attitude is as if they don't care and they don't want to be bothered with your service, and that was from the first experience almost 2wks ago. I really can't imagine how could you be upset to work at a place like this? The housekeepers and the ladies who made the breakfasts were all nice and that's the only reason why I gave an average rating. I would strongly suggest the hiring manager looks into changing the staff members or getting rid of the manager for not encouraging the employees to provide better customer service. In addition, the employees should be reminded to be visible when a customer comes in the lobby or at least have a bell available for them to ring so the customer wouldn't have to stand there and wait for someone to notice them. Overall, the hotel rooms are clean and they have rooms available for smokers. I don't know if pets are allowed here but a lot of HIE's do so maybe they do also. They're doing some remodeling but I'm sure the finish product will look great. Give this place a try if you must but don't be surprised if the front desks folk give you the cold shoulder.
Stayed a week and it was my first time at this location. This HIE didn't disappoint. Along with the free breakfast in the morning (nothing elaborate) few choices of cereal, instant oatmeal, and fruits and the eggs/omelets bacon/sausage they offer freshly baked cookies at night. Beds were comfortable and rooms were very clean. This HIE is placed between I95 and I295 and is only a short 20 min ride to RIC airport. Less than a mile from restaurants and 10 minutes from Fort Lee. Outstanding service from the front desk. I had Amazon deliver to the hotel and they accepted the package and alerted me when it arrived. I will be back when in town.
I stay at lots of Holiday Inn Express properties and have come to expect a consistent level of service and facility. This may be the worst HIE I've experienced. The rooms are worn out and mine was very dirty. Housekeeping service was disappointing in several ways. Front desk was OK...nothing to redeem the rest of the experience but certainly acceptable level of service. In fairness, they say they are renovating and the place needs it. But there are management problems that have nothing to do with renovations. The parking area and grounds are filthy--obviously no one is cleaning the cigarette buts and beer cans on a regular basis. Junk is piled in the stairwells. In short, I don't think the management is paying attention to the details that help make this brand usually so reliable. A word of mitigation: even a bad Holiday Inn Express does not mean an awful stay. Mine was certainly not awful. My low rating is based as much on expectations as it is on the overall experience. If this was an Econo Lodge, I'd give it three stars. But there are at least eight other hotels at Exit 61 off I-95 and I'm going to try one of them the next time I stay south of Richmond. You probably should, too.
The desk clerk, Jeryley was welcoming and friendly. Our room was typical - 2 queen beds, refrigerator, microwave, keurig. The room was clean and there were plenty of towels. There is construction going on in the hotel and they were, in fact working on our floor but we did not hear any noise at all. The shower head in our room wasn't very good (room 246) - maybe it was scheduled for replacement?? Breakfast was the standard - perfectly fine for a quick bite in the morning.
Stopped here overnight on our way to Florida. Room was clean, comfortable bed and pillows. Staff was accommodating and with no reservation received military discount. Breakfast included cinnamon rolls never disappoint. The area has lots of restaurants, gas and shopping. Right off 95! Definitely recommend for overnight stay!
Spent last night here, have stayed in past and felt comfortable. This year apparently in midst of reno but still using those rooms. New furniture in place buy looks very low end, bed was comfortable and new rugs already with visible stains. The bathroom in mist of renovation, incomplete painting, appeared to be primer. Towels racks not in place and tiling very poor workmanship. Very convenient location for our travels but not sure we would return.
