Stayed in Queenstown for a long weekend as I was in town for the Grace Jones concert. It's located on the main road from the airport into town so I was one of the first dropped off by the airport shuttle. It's an older property, more akin to a motel but perfectly clean and well kept. Check in was easy and the duty manager showed me to my room. My room didn't have a lake view which was fine as I just had to walk outside to get a breathtaking view of the lake and the Remarkables. I had a car for one day and parking is free and WiFi is also free. It is about a 15-20 minute downhill stroll into town (obviously uphill on the return) but it also meant no noise from a busy tourist population. Breakfast was available if I wanted at extra cost. Overall, a very nice stay and a shout out to the lovely young lady on duty when I left, extremely friendly and after talking, established we knew a couple of people in common. New Zealand is so small!
My Dad and I stayed at Earnslaw Lodge. The owners were very helpful, with local knowledge and maps to find our way around. We requested a quiet room, they offered us the choice out of two rooms. Both were great, but we chose the larger of the rooms. The view was amazing, the room was quiet as long as the bathroom window was closed. The décor is a little outdated and could do with a revamp, however it was warm and comfortable.
We recently stayed 19 & 20 at the Earnslaw Lodge Queenstown, NZ. We had initially booked to stay there again on our return from Milford Sound, but decided to take a different route back. We personally told the manager of our change of plans early on 20th. He said he would see what he could do, but informed us of his cancellation policy. We now have been billed for that night and he is treating the situation as a No Show. Right from the start we found him surly. The hotel is tired, with very poor room lighting. We had to ask for a hand towel. It seemed as though this was an unusual request. We would not stay there again.
Short but hilly walk to downtown and waterfront. Clean, well heated rooms. Fantastically friendly and helpful people there. Good off-street parking. Full English breakfast. The bar has closed. Some rooms are quite large—however Room 20 is not
Stayed here for 3 nights during my solo tour of South Island. Was greeted by a very friendly lady who struggled to carry my heavy bag up to my room...and then made me a welcome cup,of coffee whilst waiting for my room to be ready. I stayed on the 3rd floor overlooking the most spectacular view of the lake and mountains....made the most of sitting on the shared balcony for many an hour. Everything clean and serviceable although decor and fixtures a little dated. Convenient for walking into the town but uphill climb on return. Town buzzing....lots to see and do though quite expensive. Lovely walks in the gardens and along the lake shores. Used the local bus which stopped across the road to go to the old gold mining town of Arrowtown...only 5$ each way. Also took an organised trip to Milford Sound...awesome!
My husband and I loved this place! The room was large and comfortable. We chose a room on the first floor because it had a small kitchen which came in handy for the 5 days we were there. The view was better on the upper floors but we wanted the kitchen. Having said that, it was still a great view of the lake and mountains, even if we did see a bit of the parking lot. Vicki at the front desk was incredible. She helped us out so much with tours and anything else we needed. And the three person cleaning staff were so very pleasant! It’s just a few minutes walk to downtown restaurants and activities. I will certainly stay here again if I’m lucky enough to make it back to Queenstown.
This is a lovely place to stay, we were welcomed with open arms. The rooms are really comfortable. Shower really good and powerful. The only slight problem was the parking which is tight and also difficult if the place is full.
A nicely situated lodge well equipped with basic needs like a fridge and water cooker. The view from the balcony over lake Wakatipu is stunning, particular during sunset. Friendly staff although the breakfast was disappointing. Nevertheless a good place to stay a couple of days in Qtown. It's a short walk (10 min) from the lodge to the city center.
Was happy with this place. About a ten minute walk into town and although it is on a busy road, it was not overly noisy, even with the window opened. Basic kitchenette but had everything that we needed. Laundry onsite was appreciated.
The Lodge is very well situated for two main reasons. One is that the views of the lake from our room were breathtaking. Opening up the curtains in the morning was such a pleasure, revealing the lake and mountains. The other is that it's a 10 minute walk into the main town/wharf area. Walking into town saves you lengthy waits on the road as well as the issue of finding parking. Queenstown is very busy! The lodge was well laid out with a lounge area and lots of local information. Staff at the front desk were happy and helpful. The room was basic but a good size and clean and tidy. There was a balcony to take in the views. Though it was a 'communal' balcony we didn't have any issues with noise or people movement. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
