Tortuga Bay is a lovely, small resort with large villas right on the beach. The staff provides incredible service at the restaurant and on the beach. Its a private quiet place for complete relaxation. We toured around in our golf cart and on bikes - including going to the Eco-reserve where there are gorgeous clear freshwater pools in a jungle area. The food at Bamboo, the hotel restaurant, was fantastic. Try the tuna tartar or the tasting menu at dinner. Other restaurants nearby were very good too. The service is incredible starting with the "whisking" service at the airport. We easily saved an hour coming and going. We felt very welcome and well taken care of. I was pleasantly surprised at the size of our 2 bedroom villa. The living room is huge and airy and the bedrooms and bathrooms luxurious. We were given free bottles of water constantly ( you shouldn't drink the tap water) and fresh coconut water (in the coconuts) and fruit skewers on the beach. If you are looking fro a relaxing, luxurious vacation this is the place for you
There was little we could find wrong with our amazing stay at Tortuga Bay. The beach is private, uncrowded, white sand, pristine blue waters, turtles swimming in the distance, pelicans flying overhead, palm trees rattling in the wind, and comfortable beach chairs while being attended to by an excellent beach staff, including Andres and Yoseuris. They took care of us wonderfully and ensured we had water, shade, primo location, food service, and whatever else we needed. The amiable bartender, Beddy, makes great drinks, fun conversation (in English or Spanish!) and great recommendations at the adjacent restaurant. We recommend the croquetas jamon/espinaca (ham/spinach croquettes) and the jamon iberico with pan con tomate (acorn-fed prosciutto style ham with bread rubbed with garlic and tomato). Overall, it's a wonderful resort with a great staff that is perfect for couples looking to escape for a few days and disconnect. (Note: this resort is ideal for quiet travelers looking for peace & quiet. There isn't much to do at the resort other than beach, spa, food, golf, & tennis, but that's plenty when you just want a few days to enjoy island life with great service and comfort.)
We have been to Punta Cana/Cap Cana several times, and were happy to stay at Tortuga Bay again. The rooms are quite large, but the facility itself is small, so it feels more like a boutique resort. Staff is wonderful and aim to please. We had some minor glitches but they did not detract from our overall enjoyment of this first class property. Our only real complaint was Thanksgiving dinner, which was an unmitigated disaster. Service was totally off, it took us nearly three hours to have dinner. The so called turkey dinner was some sort of miniscule rolled up thing with cranberries and stuffing in it. The staff was gracious enough to bring my husband a second portion. Note to Erwan: next year, please consider serving a traditional turkey dinner more in line with your American guests expectations, because this was a clunker!
The property is well maintained continuously throughout the day. All staff greet you using with a nice smile. we stayed as a couple in a beautiful beachfront unit with an awesome view, impossible to describe. Pure pleasure for the soul. Erwin (hope I spelled it right) the food and beverage manager is a real asset, food delish and his attention to ensure we were satisfied gave us a really special feeling and we are already planning our next vacation here. Thank you!
We stayed 1 week there with our 2y old daughter. The hotel facilities are amazing: very well maintained, garden is spotless, rooms are big and the kitchen area is really a good point when you stay one full week. The hotel is part of a private resort and you have a golf car plus bikes available. In the resort, there is enough activities for children: cenotes where you can swim with fish and turtles, a farm with plenty of animals that you can feed, a horse back ridding school, toys available on the beach, kayak etc...staff are extremely nice. The only negative point is the lenght of the service in the various restaurants, including beach. It takes 40 min to have scramble eggs at breakfast and your coffee arrives when you have nearly finished your meal. You need to wait the same time to have a coke on the beach and if you order food you can wait up to 50 min. I must say it very irritating when you go to restaurant 3 times a day during 7 days with a 2y old baby. We informed our villa manager about this issue but she was not very receptive ans it did really changed any thing. There are clearly under staffed on the beach as well so you have to pick the towels by yourself and install the sun bed and parasol. It is a shame in this kind of hotel where you expect simply a spotless service. For similar pricing, you can go to four seasons in Mauritius where the service is much better. We will not go back at Tortuga Bay but we spent a really nice moment and I would recommand it still.
Lovely massage & great for a weekend geyway. Its also recommended for families. The breakfast is average but everything was to our taste. The rooms are neat, simple and sun- friendly: our villa # was 6223 and it's location was awesome
Just returned last week from Tortuga Bay. I had read the reviews, but being a skeptic I was nervous about what to expect. HOWEVER, there was no need. The reviews were right, the place is fantastic. I have never experienced service like we had. From the moment you step off the plane you are being taken care of. The girls in the airport, the drivers, Victor (our villa manager--you are the best), Francisco and Francisco in the restaurant (Francisco, can you come to our house?), and the guys on the beach (Andress and Alcedo, I'm missing my iced teas!) every single person was polite, called us by name, remembered our drinks, etc. etc. etc. It is just top notch and I would give it 10 stars if possible. My husband got sick and they went and got Tylenol for him, of their own doing, from the village pharmacy. Who does that? On the last night we had a lovely surprise bubble bath waiting for us with rose petals and wine and chocolates. All b/c it was our anniversary. Just an unbelievable vacation at this place. I had decided even before we left that this is where we will spend our anniversary next year (30th!) I can hardly wait. Victor...we're coming back! June 2018. See you then!
I cannot even fathom how anyone can review this property as anything less than "very good" -- and even that surprises me. From the second you are picked up via golf cart at the airport and whisked through all the airport procedures, to the private transportation directly to the resort, to the beautiful villas and attentive staff -- EXCELLENT. We were only able to spend 4 nights, but they were absolutely fabulous. Our villa managers were helpful but not intrusive. Housekeeping was wonderful. Beach staff was attentive and friendly. The restaurant staff (HI EMMANUEL!!) was fabulous and knew how we liked our coffee and eggs by the second day. Yes, the food is pricey, but it is 5* property -- what else would you expect? Everything we ate was wonderful. The beach was lovely (although to be honest, the beach at the Westin was a bit nicer) and they work very hard to keep up with the seaweed problem. This is an issue at a majority of islands and we knew to expect it. We loved having our own golf cart to move around the property and there were bikes available as well. For our anniversary we received sparkling wine, a cake, balloons and drawn bubble bath with flowers from our villa managers. I have NEVER had such attentive service. They are in the process of a major refurb, so I hope to be able to return and see how amazing the new decor will be. We will be back for sure. Thank you for a fabulous stay!
great villas, quiet place with good food, very clean, perfect airport pick up and drop off in october 2016, excellent and friendly staff, enjoyed the athmosphere at the pool for breakfast, there is nothing to complain about,
My husband and I spent 12 days here, celebrating our anniversary and his birthday. We are members of Leading Hotels of the World and found this property to exceed their qualifications! From the moment you step off the plane until you board the plane for home you are treated extra special! Whisking you through customs upon arrival without waiting in lines and waiting for your departure in the VIP lounge at the airport, complete with food/beverages. The grounds, staff, accommodations and service at this 5 star hotel are impeccable. We had a stunning villa with a view of the Caribbean Sea. The room was clean, spacious and as comfortable as home. The beach was steps away, where we spent most of our time. There are golf courses very close by, which we played everyday. We have stayed at several of the LHW as well as 5 star hotels and this hotel is on the top of our list! We always interact with the staff as to us, they are one of the most important pieces of our vacation. The staff at Tortuga Bay definitely go above and beyond all expectations. From the beach attendants to the pool staff to the housekeeping staff to the dining servers to the lobby clerks to the villa managers, everyone is polite, courteous, helpful, accommodating, quick to meet our needs and some that practically read our minds! We were surprised with anniversary AND birthday congratulations with cake, chocolate strawberries, balloons and bubble baths all in the comfort of our personal villa! Tortuga Bay Hotel is a quiet, remote, romantic get-away which is exactly what my husband and I look for on our annual anniversary trip after working all year in this hectic, crazy life! You feel like you are the only ones at this hotel even when is it is full. We highly recommend and will return!
