We stayed 1 week there with our 2y old daughter. The hotel facilities are amazing: very well maintained, garden is spotless, rooms are big and the kitchen area is really a good point when you stay one full week. The hotel is part of a private resort and you have a golf car plus bikes available. In the resort, there is enough activities for children: cenotes where you can swim with fish and turtles, a farm with plenty of animals that you can feed, a horse back ridding school, toys available on the beach, kayak etc...staff are extremely nice. The only negative point is the lenght of the service in the various restaurants, including beach. It takes 40 min to have scramble eggs at breakfast and your coffee arrives when you have nearly finished your meal. You need to wait the same time to have a coke on the beach and if you order food you can wait up to 50 min. I must say it very irritating when you go to restaurant 3 times a day during 7 days with a 2y old baby. We informed our villa manager about this issue but she was not very receptive ans it did really changed any thing. There are clearly under staffed on the beach as well so you have to pick the towels by yourself and install the sun bed and parasol. It is a shame in this kind of hotel where you expect simply a spotless service. For similar pricing, you can go to four seasons in Mauritius where the service is much better. We will not go back at Tortuga Bay but we spent a really nice moment and I would recommand it still.
Lovely massage & great for a weekend geyway. Its also recommended for families. The breakfast is average but everything was to our taste. The rooms are neat, simple and sun- friendly: our villa # was 6223 and it's location was awesome
Just returned last week from Tortuga Bay. I had read the reviews, but being a skeptic I was nervous about what to expect. HOWEVER, there was no need. The reviews were right, the place is fantastic. I have never experienced service like we had. From the moment you step off the plane you are being taken care of. The girls in the airport, the drivers, Victor (our villa manager--you are the best), Francisco and Francisco in the restaurant (Francisco, can you come to our house?), and the guys on the beach (Andress and Alcedo, I'm missing my iced teas!) every single person was polite, called us by name, remembered our drinks, etc. etc. etc. It is just top notch and I would give it 10 stars if possible. My husband got sick and they went and got Tylenol for him, of their own doing, from the village pharmacy. Who does that? On the last night we had a lovely surprise bubble bath waiting for us with rose petals and wine and chocolates. All b/c it was our anniversary. Just an unbelievable vacation at this place. I had decided even before we left that this is where we will spend our anniversary next year (30th!) I can hardly wait. Victor...we're coming back! June 2018. See you then!
In the fall of 2015, I took my Mom to the Tortuga Bay Hotel for some Mother / Daughter time and a little R&R. Everything about the resort is top shelf - from the service to the quality of the linens. There are any number of things to do on property (a sufficiently appointed fintenss center, a full-serivce spa, bycyles on which to tool around, even an Oscar de la Renta boutique to do a little shopping). And, of course, the private beach which is pristine and beautiful. The attentive concierge staff is incredibly knowledgeable and will take care of all the details associated with any off property excursion you may wich to take. With respect to food, the have very good standard fare but we took paritcular delight in their interpretation of local dishes. This is a place to which we will return. Enjoy!
I cannot even fathom how anyone can review this property as anything less than "very good" -- and even that surprises me. From the second you are picked up via golf cart at the airport and whisked through all the airport procedures, to the private transportation directly to the resort, to the beautiful villas and attentive staff -- EXCELLENT. We were only able to spend 4 nights, but they were absolutely fabulous. Our villa managers were helpful but not intrusive. Housekeeping was wonderful. Beach staff was attentive and friendly. The restaurant staff (HI EMMANUEL!!) was fabulous and knew how we liked our coffee and eggs by the second day. Yes, the food is pricey, but it is 5* property -- what else would you expect? Everything we ate was wonderful. The beach was lovely (although to be honest, the beach at the Westin was a bit nicer) and they work very hard to keep up with the seaweed problem. This is an issue at a majority of islands and we knew to expect it. We loved having our own golf cart to move around the property and there were bikes available as well. For our anniversary we received sparkling wine, a cake, balloons and drawn bubble bath with flowers from our villa managers. I have NEVER had such attentive service. They are in the process of a major refurb, so I hope to be able to return and see how amazing the new decor will be. We will be back for sure. Thank you for a fabulous stay!
We ordered fajitas and pasta with shrimp with a fruit drink and a milkshake. Everything tasted very good and the prices are reasonable. The service was also very good. I highly recommend this restaurant.
great villas, quiet place with good food, very clean, perfect airport pick up and drop off in october 2016, excellent and friendly staff, enjoyed the athmosphere at the pool for breakfast, there is nothing to complain about,
My husband and I spent 12 days here, celebrating our anniversary and his birthday. We are members of Leading Hotels of the World and found this property to exceed their qualifications! From the moment you step off the plane until you board the plane for home you are treated extra special! Whisking you through customs upon arrival without waiting in lines and waiting for your departure in the VIP lounge at the airport, complete with food/beverages. The grounds, staff, accommodations and service at this 5 star hotel are impeccable. We had a stunning villa with a view of the Caribbean Sea. The room was clean, spacious and as comfortable as home. The beach was steps away, where we spent most of our time. There are golf courses very close by, which we played everyday. We have stayed at several of the LHW as well as 5 star hotels and this hotel is on the top of our list! We always interact with the staff as to us, they are one of the most important pieces of our vacation. The staff at Tortuga Bay definitely go above and beyond all expectations. From the beach attendants to the pool staff to the housekeeping staff to the dining servers to the lobby clerks to the villa managers, everyone is polite, courteous, helpful, accommodating, quick to meet our needs and some that practically read our minds! We were surprised with anniversary AND birthday congratulations with cake, chocolate strawberries, balloons and bubble baths all in the comfort of our personal villa! Tortuga Bay Hotel is a quiet, remote, romantic get-away which is exactly what my husband and I look for on our annual anniversary trip after working all year in this hectic, crazy life! You feel like you are the only ones at this hotel even when is it is full. We highly recommend and will return!
This is a high end property but worth every dime. Starting with the amazing service at the airport! Upon arrival, you are met at the bottom of the steps of your airplane, taken by a golf cart straight through customs and immigration. We had a second floor room (with two patios) that overlooked the ocean. Our room was very spacious, and the amenities included Oscar de la Renta products. The service exceeded our expectations and everyone . . and I mean everyone . . . were friendly and attentive. This is a small property with just 17 villas. Expect 5 star treatment at this amazing resort. WE LOVED IT!
Our family of four stayed for a week during Spring Break. We had a two bedroom, two bath, ground floor villa that was golf course/water view. Accommodations are very nice and well maintained although it is my understanding they will be undergoing renovations soon. White, soft sand and beautiful blue water await your beach experience while service is at hand for food & drinks, cold water, or simply water from the coconut with a straw! Seaweed was not a problem as they have erected a barrier to keep the area clean. Would be prudent to bring water shoes if you enjoy spending time swimming or snorkeling in front of the resort. Deep sea fishing was abundant this time of year ( 6 Marlin and several Dorado (mahi) were caught during this trip!) they cooked the Mahi for us & it was unbelievable....our room included breakfast which was within walking distance every morning although you will have a golf cart & cellphone at your disposal for any needs or wants that arise. Breakfast was buffet style (Spanish tortilla, bacon, sausages, fresh fruits, dates, breads, waffles, French toast, sweets, yogurt)--they will juice vegetables for you too, smoked salmon, cereals, you name it it's there--your eggs were cooked to order. Go to La Jolla at the Marina for dinner--fabulous food with traditional Dominican trio serenading guests. (Make a reservation.). Delightful! Every night the turndown service included a cup of Dominican rice pudding. There is an Oscar de La Renta Boutique on premises. (Pricey but they have lovely things). We visited the beautiful freshwater lagoons (you can swim after a short hike to get there). Took the golf cart to the Sixth Senses Spa with my daughter for a very nice massage (she received a facial) & both of us pedicures. One highlight was a traditional BBQ in our villa one night. They brought the grill, set a lovely table and we were treated to impeccable service while dining on steak/shrimp, grilled vegetables, Dominican potato salad, avocado salad & corn with dulce coco & flan for dessert. We visited the Rancho by golf cart-- a few animals were there that you could feed/pet but it was a little warm that day so we did not stay long. On our last night there coming back from dinner at Cap Cana there was a bubble bath awaiting us with flower petals leading up to and in the tub. A lovely touch! Having the VIP service at the airport for pickup, passing hundreds of people in line coming in was worth every penny and this is similar leaving as well (there is a private waiting lounge on the way back). There is no stress here from beginning to end. It's a quiet, restful place to rejuvenate and be thankful. We were indeed. Highly recommend.
