My wife and I stayed at Tortuga Bay for 3 nights in February. We have traveled throughout the Caribbean, Hawaii and Greece. Tortuga Bay is one of the best if not best places we stayed for various reasons. It's very easy to get to - direct flight from Philadelphia in the air was 3 hours and the airport is 5-10 minute drive to the resort. Tortuga Bay provides at no additional cost VIP arrival and departure service at the airport. Took 20-30 minutes from leaving the plane to go though immigration and customs. It took the same amount of time to check in and go through immigration/customs when we departed. The beach at TB is about a 1/2 mile stretch of serene quiet with white powder sand and palm trees. There were only about 10 people on the entire beach each day. The quiet was such that the only noise we heard was the reef break directly off shore. Service was top notch! Friendliness of the staff was tremendous. I can't imagine a better place to stay in all of the DR.
The villas are spacious and comfortable with views of the sea. Patio with lounge chairs and table for dinner outside. Excellent restaurants within gated village. Golf cart use for quick travel to restaurants, spa, ecology area. Running paths 8-10 miles round trip. Service is top notch. Beautiful beaches that are not crowded!
We went to this place with a lot of kids. And even though it is a very fine place, the kids were welcomed and we enjoyed a fantastic dinner. The food was top quality and the service was fast and very kind.
It's about the people! It began with an expeditious and seamless arrival at the airport, through customs and to the hotel. Every member of the Tortuga Bay staff is to be commended for their professionalism and sincerity to please their guests. They are very attentive and friendly. Always a sincere smile from each and every one of them. The grounds are right out of a fairytale and the food at Bamboo and La Yola was outstanding! Creative and tasteful dishes that will rival any 4 star establishment in the States. They even had a live saxophone musician each night at the Bamboo restaurant. We've travelled to over 20 Caribbean resorts and Tortuga Bay is among the top 3 on our favorites list. Our villa was right on the beach and the maid service was outstanding as well. You get your own golf cart to explore the property or play golf on their beautiful course. Bicycles are available as well. The beach is large, private and gorgeous. Keep up the good work Tortuga Bay! We will definitely be revisiting soon and often!
My husband and I spent a great and relaxing week at this hotel. It was exactly what we were looking for, clean/quiet/few distractions from the beautiful ocean. There were some activities available off the property but we really never left the beach during the day. We dined at several of the restaurants and loved them all. The staff of the hotel are what really set this place apart from others we've travelled to. The staff is friendly and always goes above and beyond (has your chairs set up in the morning, remembers your favorite drinks and food, checks in on you regularly).
My wife and I just got back from one of the nicest places we’ve stayed at. The accommodations and beach were beautiful, but it was the staff that pushed it to the top. On arrival, we were given a cell phone so that we could reach our concierge/villa manager, Margarita. What a sweetheart. She was always available to answer questions and make reservations or schedule a shuttle. Breakfast by the pool each morning was delightful. Dinners, across the resort complex were about 50% more expensive than at home. One reason was that there’s an 18% tax on everything. We’ll be back.
My husband and I returned to Tortuga Bay the week before Christmas for another amazing 5 days! (You can read my other review from April, 2017) We travel very often, all over the world. As such are very particular in our reviews. After 18 days in China in Sept 2017, we decided to return to Tortuga Bay which is rapidly becoming a home away from home!! It was great to see the staff again: Emanuel, Francisco #1, Francisco #2, Roselin for breakfast, Israel, at the beach, Camacho the driver, Jose, Melissa, Margarita (villa managers), Cesar, Jose, at the Bamboo for dinner, wonderful housekeepers, Dona Francisca, etc. All are outstanding. Anticipating our every need and going above and beyond our expectations!! Specially we appreciated the staff willingness to work with me and some foods restrictions. Our Junior Suite oceanfront was perfect! We loved returning to the spa for services twice during our stay, and having the staff there also remember us. We love sharing with others, so we told another couple and they visited Tortuga Bay with the same high level of satisfaction. Next we are taking our 5 adult children, with their spouses and all our grandchildren for this year's Thanksgiving celebration to Tortuga Bay! We have learned that the service is very consistent, professional, friendly, genuine and sincere so what better place to enjoy our family!!
The front office area and Bambo facility have been remodeled. The staff have new uniforms and the new outdoor bar by the Bamboo pool is very popular. La Yola (pronounced la "joe"-la in Spanish) has added some pretty decorative lighting. One thing remains the same: outstanding service! This is our 12th visit over past 11 years and we have never had anything but 5 star level service here. For dinners, we went to our favorite place, La Yola, another time to Playa Blanca whose main building was burned down and they are using a tent structure instead, La Cava at the Village was fun on a Monday night as well as Valentina where they have music on Fridays at 9pm. Isabella at the new Blue Mall is worht the visit and we hired a car for a trip to Macao beach with dinner at the Bavaro food truck village which doesn't really get going until 9m. Golf at Corales and the spa with Esperanza, Mercedes, and Dejandea were great as always. There will be a PGA event at Corales in March. Already back home and missing the warmth and gorgeous 7am sunrises over the sea. Cant wait to get back next year as well! And go Aguilas (Eagles) who are playing in the DR league championship this week
Tortuga Bay was fantastic. I would recommend to couples and families alike. Our accommodations were excellent, including the staff. We loved that they do in suite check in and give you a villa manager that you can reach on a cell phone they provided! Talk about service!! They nailed it! Everything we could have needed was taken care of. The restaurants were fantastic, even their breakfast buffet. We recommend La Yola for dinner. Definitely check out the Six Senses spa too. The property itself is gorgeous, especially the beach! We went all over in our golf cart. You can go down to Playa Bonita and the Westin, all which can be charged back to your room. We even spent one afternoon visiting the ecological reserve where we swam in lagoons. So fun! We can't wait to go back! PS, the VIP meet and greet services at the airport are 1000% worth every penny! Just do it!
Tortuga Bay is more an exclusive resort than one of those with plenty of activities all day long. And that's what we wanted: somewhere peaceful and quiet where you can walk along sandy beaches, put your reading up-to-date and do nothing. The villas are amazing with plenty of space for the whole family and your private golf cart to take you everywhere. OUr special thanks to our villa manager Victor, who made our stay very pleasant and made all arrangements necessary for dinner and local tours. We sure will come back soon.
