We just returned home from a week in this resort. I have to say it probably was one of the most fun ones we've stayed in. First, about the resort itself. It is an adult only resort, so we had enjoyed this feature. It is in a gated complex with a few others, and is close to the airport. There is a golf course on the complex, plus tennis courts. It is a five minute walk to the mall in the complex. There are no ocean view rooms or rooms with a good view. They all mostly face another building or parking lot, so keep this in mind. Would highly recommend an Amnesia suite rather than a Bliss or Nirvana room. At least the suite has a sofa to sit on, as well as more places to keep your clothes. The basic rooms will mean living out of a suitcase as there is no cabinet to unpack to. There is a closet bar with about 6 hangers only. There is also not even a chair to sit down. We had called the desk & they brought us in a couple of plastic lawn chairs. I guess this chain keeps it minimal for whatever reason. We did live with it, wasn't a deal breaker though. The rooms are very clean and serviced regularly. They have a safe, coffee maker, small daily stocked fridge with water, beer & pop. Housekeeping is amazing here! Lots of hot water, once I figured out the tap for a shower. Each room had an umbrella also, as the weather changed every five minutes so made it more difficult to stay around the pool or beach, but can't blame the resort for this. They have their work cut out just supplying dry towels for everyone. The entertainment team is amazing, keeping us all laughing and having fun with different activities during the day and evening, Special thanks to all of them! The staff here is amazing. We had never met anyone who was rude or uncaring. I don't know where some of the other reviewers get this from. The beach is set about a five minute walk down a path, no big deal. It was clean and never felt unsafe as others had reported, unless they might have gone at 3 in the morning, but no issues during normal times. It is a clean beach and you can walk forever in either direction. Red or yellow flags were out everyday due to high winds so if you like ocean swimming, perhaps not the best location. If you ventured out to the left, there is a small village near the flea market. There seemed to be more litter there. There are lots of vendors walking around, but this seems to bother some reviewers also, but you have to bear in mind it is THEIR country, we are visitors, and they are trying to make a living. The biggest complaint I have in any of these resorts, Cuba, Mexico, or here, is that there is nowhere to go where you don't get chain smokers sitting next to you. I would like to see an area where I can sit away from it. It is part of the culture, but kills me. At least the restaurants are all non smoking. Pool area and beach bar are very clean, with thanks to a tireless staff. The food here is the best we've had at a resort. All of the four ala cartes had amazing food, Suffrito had a steak dinner that was to die for good. We had heard some people complaining about how disappointed they were with the food. I'm not sure how good they eat at home, but they must eat like royalty there if they didn't like it here. The beach bar had the best wood fired pizza we've had, and all the restaurants were amazing. Plenty of food in the buffet, and good variety. Best part was no reservations required. If you get to them by 7ish, most times you walked in, or 5 minutes wait at most. Other places you have to be early in the morning the day that you want to make a reservation, so this is an amazing feature here. I would recommend this resort without hesitation, and would return in a heartbeat. I want to thank the staff for making our stay amazing. They work hard and deserve a big thank you.
We spent a week at this hotel 04-11 February 2018. The room was ready upon arrival at 1:00PM- which was very nice. We had suite with balcony- "garden" view. Small fridge with water, beer and soft drinks. Big towels. Shower only. King bed with a separate living area. Free electronic safe in the room. Adults only resort- a first for us. I used the laundry service- not expensive, very fast an excellent service. VERY SLOW service at the pool bar/main bar. Often times there is only 1 barman which may caused delays of 10 minutes to get a drink ( I timed it). Go to the beach- much better service. Amaury was awesome !!! A la carte restaurants were all VERY good. The buffet is small but also very good and again slow service to get a coffee in the morning..... Free internet all over the resort- no issues. Nice chairs at the beach/pool but it will be hard to get one in the afternoon- if not impossible. Go before 8:00 AM Would we go back? YES. The ratio price/quality is good.
We just spent two wonderful weeks at this resort. This resort is wonderful in many ways, with a few drawbacks. It is clean and well laid out, with easy access to everything. Some comments have said it’s a long walk to the beach, but we didn’t find this to be so. It is a pleasant walk along a path with a beautiful forest view on one side, about 1 1/2 blocks. The food in the buffet was always fresh, varied and tasty. The Saturday evening Gala dinner was especially wonderful! We actually came to prefer the buffet food over the a la Carte restaurants. The service in the buffet, and a la Carte restaurants, as well as the bars, was excellent! The staff everywhere on this resort were friendly, and helpful at all times!! Check in for a whole bus load of people was super fast and efficient, as was checkout. The front desk staff was helpful, and alway willing to give us change - small bills for tips. I suggest you take Dominican Pesos with you, as it is easier to give the staff tips that they don’t have to convert. There’s a mall one block from the front of the resort that sells trinkets, excursions, liquor, jewelry and a pharmacy. There’s also a 24 medical clinic there. I’m not sure how it’s set up, as we didn’t have need to go there, but it is close. We spent most of our time in the pool area, as there is very little shade at the beach. We found ourselves being well entertained by the fun, energetic and, talented “Animation Team”. They danced for us, led us in yoga, and aqua size, dance lessons, talked us into playing a variety of “ skill”games, evening entertainment, and more! We got to know and appreciate each of them for their special talents, and unique personalities - Minnie Mouse, Scoobey, Needle, Speedy, Robin Hood, Mini Me, Candy, Betty Boop, Anaconda, Tarzan, Carlton, Alien, La Pinki, La Choco, and the DJs Abel and BoBalo ... Thanks for all the fun! The Viva V Heavens does have a few things to improve on. As I’d mentioned, there’s very little shade at the beach. There are plenty of palm trees, but NO umbrellas or palapas! This leaves those of us wishing to avoid direct sun, and or rain, “chasing the shade” all day, or sitting at the pool. There’s also not enough umbrellas at the pool. A few othe thing they need are more chairs and tables by the evening entertainment area, and near the bar in the evenings. We had rain showers off and on in the mornings and evenings, leaving everyone scrambling to find a place to sit. We would’ve loved to have some lights at the tables between the buffet and pool area, we could play cards or board games in the evenings. We were in a “ Bliss” room, which is small with no frills, but didn’t mind, as we spent very little time there. The bed was comfy. We were on the third floor, giving us our exercise, as there is NO elevators. Thanks for a wonderful vacation!
Just returned from a wonderful week in Puerto Plata on Feb 15th. Stayed at the Wyndham Heavens resort with 3 of my friends. The weather wasn't the greatest but was 100 percent better than the -40 waiting for me at home. The staff was amazing! Especially the Animation team! They are extremely talented and really know how to make everyone get into the participating mood. I can't say enough great things about this place. Food was great, the walk to the beach was beautiful and the space was relaxing. Definitely will be returning and recommending to my friends and family.

While the hotel meets all your basic needs a few minor changes could really improve your visit. First off the front desk staff could benefit from a minor attitude adjustment. I found them to be condescending and unapproachable. We paid extra for an amnesia suite, while I knew I wouldn't have a view of the ocean I didn't expect a view of a rusty concrete wall. When I asked the staff if they had another room available and explained why I wanted a new room they're fist response was "so you want me to give you something to look at?!" Second time round, "well you knew you wouldn't have a view". Unacceptable. Don't charge people extra for a balcony that feels like you're sitting in a closet. The shows are late and very little to do between dinner and the show. There's not enough covered areas during the rain. Not enough lounges for the number of hotel guests. Several times we walked down to the hotel beside and used their lounges. There's an entertainment area by the disco which has a pool table, fooseball and ping pong. But it's dark at night. We saw one couple bring up a lantern to play pool! Why? Just turn on the lights. It would be great to have music or entertainment in the lobby. Food was ok. Ocean was lovely we didn't witness any excessive garbage. It is very rough but if you walk down the beach to the right there is a cove to snorkel in. The locals are lovely extremely friendly and generous people (excluding the front desk).
We stayed at the Viva Wyndham V Heavens from Feb 6-Feb 13. We found check in to be very quick and our Amnesia suit was just as pictured on the website. The bed was very comfortable and the shower had great water pressfseure. Maria, our maid, did a wonderful job and went above and beyond when she entered the room one day to find me sick in bed. The buffets and restaurants were fine. We really enjoyed the buffet at the beach, although the selection was limited we found the food to be fresh and hot. We also really enjoyed Sofrito, the steak was very tender and delicious. Omar, Ana and the other bartenders were very good at their job and always remembered what we had ordered. We did a taxi tour to Puerto Plata and that is the only the part of our trip that we were disappointed with. "Blue Jay" our taxi tour guide was not what he sold himself to be and we felt very taken advantage of. Please note that this is the taxi service that the resort recommends but should we ever travel to V Heavens again we will not be using the private taxi service. The resort was clean, food was good, service was good, beach was beautiful and all for a very affordable price.
I travelled with a friend and we stayed in the Amnesia Suite. It was perfect. Clean, modern, and comfortable. I loved the pillows and plan to contact the hotel to find out what the filling in them was so that I can buy some for home. I was aware of the short jaunt to the beach before arrival, and it really wasn't a problem. You walk beside a "lagoon" of sorts and there are turtles and White Herons to hold your attention along the walk. The ocean was a little choppy, so while it was fun to swim in I never did locate an appropriate spot to get out my snorkel and mask. The buffet was great, especially if you love seafood as much as I do. The real treat at the resort was the people. The bar staff were likeable and good at their jobs, I especially liked seeing Ana at the main bar in the mornings when I was looking for cappuccino. The Animation Team really made my stay there what it was. They were charismatic and great at getting people to participate without coming off as too pushy. (Special shout-out to Carlton who made Bingo fun, Anaconda and Tarzan the crowd-pleasers, and Pinkie who seemed like she was enjoying herself as much as the guests were.) Thanks so much, seriously.
a small hotel but beautiful and clean full my expectations the food very good I loved the restaurant the blend and the sofrito and the very good drinks the very nice entertainers all thanks to the bartender omar and Ricardo for making my vacations more special with their special cocktails see you in July again
Pros: It is a pretty spot on the ocean. The hotel is very clean and the food was half decent and for my taste, the wine was good as well. I don't drink other alcoholic beverages so was pleased with the red and white wine offerings. There were enough chairs at the beach or pool and enough towels available. I loved the Ros Marino restaurant on the beach - very pretty place and also enjoyed the food at the Dominican restaurant, Sofritto. The other restaurants were fine as well and provided a nice atmosphere for dinner. My room had no issues, fairly quiet except night crowd returning from disco sometimes and crappy lumpy pillows which need to be changed out. Pool area is lovely also. Cons: If you don't care about swimming in the ocean or beach walking this next point won't bother you perhaps. I don't really want to rate this a 3 star...was hoping to rate it at least a 4. We arrived on the 4th day of rain and when we walked the beach I was most discouraged to find washed up garbage, plastic water bottles, other unidentified plastic objects...I asked staff about if and they said the river up the beach (about 15 min walk) to the west had overflowed. I love ocean swimming so was immediately disappointed. There were tremendous amounts of seaweed in front of the resort that the garbage got caught in. I would walk about 7 minutes down to the east to a cove where conditions were cleaner. So the second day of our vacation I say the tractor picking up the seaweed but did not pick up the garbage on the beach. You need to employ someone to get down to the beach and pick up garbage when this is an issue. It completely grossed me out and I will not go back again because good ocean swimming is one of my top requirements for a good vacation. I don't like that evening entertainment is away from the main areas. You could be coming back from dinner but not enticed to do anything because the disco is on the 2nd floor. I was never spoken to by the animation staff but that was fine with me. I know how they behave at other resorts hogging the dance floor and showing off so I couldn't be bothered with that. The pool is a solid 10-15 minute walk from the ocean so I never did use it. I wish it had been closer, but nothing you can change here. It was a lovely pool though. I'm not a downer at all, but so upset about the beach trash conditions...:( On our check out time, there was arguing in the lobby about rooms with no air conditioning that weren't being addressed and a very sick man in bed whose wife was crying begging someone to help her get him down and to the hospital - no elevators. Finally the Sunwing rep arrived and got things into motion and he was sent to the hospital in a taxi. I was really glad to be leaving that day. The woman had been up half the night asking the hotel staff to do something but nothing was done until management arrived at 9:00 in the morning. Everyone was hearing this in the lobby, so not a good scene at all. I hope you can resolve some of these issues, but not sure Puerto Plata is for me. I had a wonderful experience at Viva Wyndham Samana with the most beautiful beach ever so you know I don't have a hate on for your resort chain at all.
