A classic old dame, this hotel was a charming little one right by the centre of Porto. A short walk away from Sao Bento station, it was central and quite agreeable for the price. The room, whilst having old decor, was clean and comfortable. The internet was speedy and efficient and the air conditioning worked wonderfully. Housekeeping were also friendly and attentive. Front desk staff were available 24 hours. For a small fee (if not included), you could purchase a continental breakfast, however there are also numerous places nearby to indulge in. There was some street noise on the Saturday evening when Porto won the soccer, but otherwise I slept soundly with no problems. I would stay again.
Hotel Aliados is very well located within a five minute walk of the main San Bento train station. The main tourist buses are here too - I would recommend the blue bus where a 48 hour ticket will also give you access to a Port tour and a free river ride for €24. The staff in the hotel are friendly and breakfast is a typically modest continental affair - no hot options / eggs. The rooms have pleasant modern bathrooms and modern TVs etc. They do feel quite dated despite this (quite 80s in style). The bedding was also slightly scratchy with poor pillows. Ultimately it's a modest hotel, spotlessly clean in a good location. However if street noise is an issue for you it's worth considering that this is located on an exceptionally busy road and there is a considerable amount of traffic noise. It wasn't an issue for me but it was noticeable.
The hotel is situated in the main square in Porto and, as such, is within walking distance of most of the city's principal attreactions. The rooms with the exception of the bathroom are, however, in need of a revamp. In particular the windows offer no soundproofing and, as the square outside is often full of traffic (and at the weekend revellers) until the small hours, sleeping can prove difficult. The staff were friendly, multilingual and efficient and there are 2 very good restaurants within 30 seconds walk of the entrance but, overall, the hotel would benefit enormously from a little investment.
The hotel is very well located in the centre of Porto, close to the Metro station. The service was polite. The room was very small and the net curtains did not appear to have been cleaned for quite some time. The rooms are very dated, except for the bathroom which was modern, and it was noisy at night. The bed was old and uncomfortable.
If you like quaint and quirky this might be the place for you. Brilliantly situated for exploring. Staff friendly and helpful although we were sent on a wild goose chase for a take away coffee. Steps to lift could be a problem. Shower room had obviously been updated but no heating and decidedly chilly. The television mysteriously came on in the middle of each of the three nights we stayed!! Bedroom was like a cupboard with a dodgy door and bed was like a brick, the room was cold and the heater didn’t work. Dusty plastic flowers adorned every corner. This hotel is desperately in need of a facelift, the carpets are threadbare and everything looks so old and uncared for. Bedroom floor was not clean so don’t forget your slippers. No tea and coffee making facilities but take away place a couple of doors up the road or McDonald’s opposite. Hard Rock Cafe just round the corner. Breakfast, which starts at 8, was disappointing ....fruit and yoghurt, ham cheese and bread. Nothing hot and no toast and they are obviously fearful of you taking too much as waitress was watching everything that was going on. Wouldn’t visit again and wouldn’t recommend....although location excellent for getting out and abou
This hotel is charming. Wonderful architecture and a view of the avenue Aliados which is amazing! It is central and the breakfast is a good selection of breads, cheese, ham and fruit etc. Very good value for money and friendly staff.
My husband and I stayed for the weekend. The room was very confortable and clean, but a lit a bit old. The internet was good. The location is also good because it's in the center. The breakfast was normal for this type of hotel. The staff is very friendly. It is a ggod hotel If you go for a couple of days. One advice, ask for a rrom with a view to the Avenida dos Aliados.
Best possible location in the heart of the city, beautiful historical front, unfriendly service, mostly small and noisy rooms, no luggage service, no lift to the first and sixth floor, poor breakfast. NOT for elderly or handicapped people, people with infants or with heavy luggage.
In the middle of the heart of Porto and with a walk distance to everything. Nice staff but an hotel that only partly been modernized. We got a very small room with a balcony with a nice view to the square. The good things first, we did not freeze (AC worked fine) and the bathroom fresh and modernized (but small). Free wifi worked fine. A TV ( very small like 20 inches) with international TV channels (positive). Then to the downside, it was extremely noise (bring something to put into your ears if you intend to sleep, particular if there are events ongoing that the place outside). The double bed was small like max 140 cm. The breakfast was of the classic south Europe type so it was bread, coffee and a lot of cookies and not much more. The hotel mentioned that we could get a more robust breakfast at the restaurant around the corner (we tried that for 15 EUR each and was not impressed). Last but not least important that staff they where really service minded and the also surprised us at the new years eve by put some accessories and a bottle in our room. Do I recommend this place ? well if you want silence absolutely not not if you are handicapped because the stairs were very narrow (ok the got a small elevator but still).
After reading some reviews, I was a bit apprehensive about this hotel. How wrong was I. It is in a wonderfully central location, staff friendly, very clean rooms, a lift that worked and had unspoilt old fashioned charm. An excellent choice on my behalf. City tour buses leave from the square as do taxis, and there is a restaurant on the ground floor which is attached to the hotel serving really nice food (not budget though). W e were very lucky to get one of the suites on the fifth floor with a balcony overlooking the square and were able to watch the Christmas lights being switched on! Restaurants and bars all around the square and main attractions within walking distance. Decent breakfast for 5 euros in the hotel.
