Central location close to bars and restaurants and in one of the few flattish parts of Porto. Welcoming staff - once you have worked out that the reception is on the second floor! Rooms are small with a tiny bathroom but comfortable . We were there on a weekend and found it was quite noisy with people leaving clubs and bars. Overall a good place for a short break
The reception is located on a second floor which you reach by climbing stairs to an elevator. We were told that there was only one room with a double bed (instead of two requested) and told that there would be a two hour wait for the room. perhaps if the receptionist had been fiendlier we would have waited, but instead we chose to find another hotel.
We were really relieved to obtain a room here when our apartment landlord at Oporto Clerigos Apartments let us down badly. However- despite the friendly and helpful staff- the main square and street noise was too great and we had to seek alternative accommodation the following morning.
Wonderful city lots to do and see hotel perfect positive. River trip is a must and the vertual reality trip over the vine yards in Santa cruise bodiga was good. There was a cable car trip and lots of good taps bars for lunch.the old boats where great and it's a photographers dream .
We needed a central hotel that wasn't too expensive but clean and well run. I think that is what we got here. Having read previous reviews, we were prepared for what we had read. Therefore none of it mattered. The fact that you have to climb a few stairs to reach the lift could be a problem for some, but there are only a few. I would have liked a bannister on both sides however. The staff on reception were lovely and welcoming. They directed us to a luggage room as we arrived very early and checked us in for our 5 night stay even though we couldn't go to our room. Breakfast was more than adequate unless you want a hot cooked one. There were plenty of restaurants in the vicinity for all meals. Our room was not the most modern but clean and comfortable. (I like firm beds) The shower was tremendous but I would have liked a safety rail to hang on to. This should be compulsory but seldom is. It was also quiet and you could only hear these pesky seagulls in the bathroom. The hotel is a short walk from the Metro, they also arrange an inexpensive shuttle to the airport and there is a taxi rank close by. It is close to many historical sites, shopping areas and tour bus departures points and not too far from the river.
Not the cheapest restaurant in Porto but we found the daily set lunch good value, well cooked and presented. Nothing was left on either plate for both courses. Wine also more expensive than elsewhere. Pleasant experience.
We chose this hotel for its great central location, knowing that we only needed a place to shower and sleep. The hotel is above a restaurant, reception is on the first floor so you have to carry your luggage up a flight of stairs from street level. Our room was as to be expected of a 3* hotel: clean, plenty of hot water, good shower, good wifi and aicon. We found the beds ultra firm though! Traffic noise and late night revellers could be an issue if you are looking for a quirky, centrally located hotel that is soundproof. We saw that as part of the experience and slept with the old casement windows and shutters open rather than using air con. Breakfast disappointing but for 5€ it does the job.
Stayed there for 3 days for a small family holiday. Despite the great location, the rooms are very small, and the bathrooms like closets! The isolation is also very bad, I could hear everything from the room next door, including the bathroom and a baby who was crying the whole night and morning... The style and decoration are outdated and you have to climb some stairs to get to the elevator which was a problem for my mother... At least the staff and cleaning service were decent. Nonetheless I'll give 2* since the location definitely doesn't justify the hotel prices.
We spent two nights at Hotel Aliados. The hotel has probably the best location as everything is at walking distance. The style is very classy and vintage, fits perfectly the charm of the city. However, I recommend you not to take any room on the main avenue side as the noise is very loud all night (especially on weekends). Unfortunately, breakfast was not included for us and rooms seem a bit outdated.
Our room did not look at all like the photos shown during the booking process! It was much simpler, older, less decoration and "luxury" etc. We had been pondering whether to book a cheap hotel in Porto or go for the more expensive nicer one, then decided for the latter... in the end, we just paid more and got less "luxury" than expected. If they'd put authentic photos into the booking advertisement (on the accorhotels.com website), guests would know what to expect.
