Nice place to stay with a family. Calm and warm, near to subway, trains, a lot of bus, etc. The people there are friendly and respectful. We used the kitchen to make our food and in the morning had free breakfast.I like it.
The Braganca Oporto Hotel is a small pension or hostel style facility well located in Porto. There is easy access from the Sao Bento metro station as well as the train station, although both are downhill from the hotel. I really, really wanted to love this place, as the people running it try their best, but the most serious fault is that the wifi barely/rarely works. Even those using their phones while sitting next to the office had a hard time doing anything using wifi other than texting. We were able to connect intermittently for about a total of 10 minutes over two days. Most frustrating. I realize there are other ways of connecting, but if a property says there is wifi, there should be wifi. Other than that: during certain hours, the desk is staffed by non-English language speakers; I imagine that if something serious needed to be discussed, someone could be called to translate. During the day, there were often young ladies who spoke English. Even with the language barrier, the staff could assist us in finding a supermarket ! And, due to being unable to connect to the wifi, we were unable to locate the wine shop and the rental car office. The nice woman at reception looked both up for me on her phone. On the one hand, I understand that I am in another country where English is not the primary language; however, on the other hand, if the property is advertised and booked on an English language booking channel, they should know that they will be attracting English language speakers ..... I do not like to switch rooms in the middle of a stay, but sometimes it can’t be helped especially in a small property. Our first room was #10 with two twin beds pushed together; even so, there was hardly any room to walk around the first bed to get to the second. Our second room, #4, had a double bed and was a bit larger so one could walk around to the other side of the bed without injury to knees and/or elbows. However, the bathroom was much smaller, with barely enough room to squeeze between the sink and toilet to get into the shower. Both rooms had showers, although a bit narrow. Plenty of liquid soap and shampoo was provided. There are no elevators at this property – the reception is on the second floor and the rooms on the second, third and fourth floor. The stairs to the fourth floor are a bit narrow. An unexpected benefit was a simple breakfast with fresh rolls and bread for toast, along with butter and jams. Coffee and tea are available all day, as are two kinds of ports. The breakfast is served in the communal kitchen which also contains a microwave and a shared refrigerator; please clean up after yourself. There is no air conditioning in the rooms; not sure if it gets warm enough to warrant it…. There are sheers on the window to provide a sort of screening although we did find insects buzzing around – mosquitoes ?? There was a small room heater in #10 and #4 had a fan. Not sure how the appliances are allocated once the weather turns cold …. The walls are thin and the windows single pane, so any noise outside of your room will easily find its way in. The morning after our second night (since we had switched to the 2nd floor) started with the loud chatter of an obstinate child. Not too pleasant. The other guests were well mannered enough to cut out the socializing by around 11pm. The setup was nice to be able to meet other people if you stopped by the kitchen for breakfast or a cup of tea or a shot of port ….. one evening as I chatted with a nice couple from England, a pair of young French women offered all of us a taste of their special find from the afternoon’s port tastings. Overall, a nice ambience for chatting with other travelers. I can overlook the small room; we enjoyed the great location, light breakfast and port and the camaraderie of people hanging out in the kitchen, but the lack of wifi blew a big hole in our onward trip planning and was very much not appreciated …… as mentioned earlier, since this was the minimum expectation level, the deficiency leaves me no choice but to rate this property as less than average.
I had just finished walking the Camino from Sevilla to Santiago de Compostela and just wanted some downtime. Perfect place to stay in the historic area of Oporto - close to cathedral. Some good restaurants in the area. Reasonable price for such location. Room compact (not luxury) and staff pleasant.
We stayed in a cramped room 11 for 1 night. No WiFi in room so had to use small common areas around hotel. The bathroom was the worst bathroom we experienced in 10 weeks of traveling throughout Europe and Morocco. Free port wine and coffee available in small kitchen but the bathroom was just inexcusable.
Even though it doesn't look nice from the outside, inside it is a very charming hotel with porto wine free. It has the comfort of a good hotel and the price of a guest house. It fits to couples or families. Rooms and bathrooms are not very big, but clean and comfy. The staff is very nice and ready to help. The location is great. From the hotel you can get to most of the more interesting sites of porto. Good wifi and TV.
Cheap and great position. also sharing kitchen with free porto wine and tea. services out of the room, that they were not so clean. Near sao bento central station, aliados square, galleries de paris. perfect position to visit, to move everywhere and to have fun. wifi service
