We stayed 4 nights at QT port Douglas on our baby moon and how I wish I had booked somewhere else. I selected QT port Douglas over all other hotels in the area because I have stayed at and loved QT properties all across Aus and NZ. This one unfortunately is in no way remotely similar to the others. First the very few pros: Location, Parking, pool and a quirky, QT-ish decorated reception, restaurant and common areas. That’s where the good things stop. Cons: * very, very basic rooms. Ours had a bed, a plastic chair and a table. Reminded me of a motel room. Stained cushions, only lights in the room were bed side lamps and that too ones that didn’t have an on off switch, & required you to get off the bed and switch off. Being pregnant and getting in and out of the high bed to switch off the lamps was too annoying. There wasn’t even a comfy chair to sit and wear your shoes. Like i said, motel rooms are better furnished. And this was an upgraded room, duh * the housekeeping sucked. Every day we came back to the room to such a poorly made bed. Seemed to get worse by the day. See pictures below. They didn’t clear used glasses or spoons, and our fruit platter was left to rot on the counter till I put it outside the room on day3. Trays on the bed side table were not straightened and were almost falling off the table. Tables were not dusted. Stained cushions, no dustbins in the room, empty water bottles not cleared... I could go on. I would never expect this at a QT. Absolutely no care or attention to guest comforts. * Breakfast buffet had the same few things every single day. Not even minor changes. Though we had a bfast package we opted to eat out. * Restaurant menus were very limited for lunch / dinner. * Front desk at checkin was okay. Checkout was quick, but no questions asked about the experience or feedback. Perhaps Good for them, as I was ready to give them a piece of my mind. I really wish I had booked some other resort or hotel for the price we paid. This was a total waste of money and time, and what should have been a memorable trip turned into just an average stay. Update: I wrote to the mgmt and was told that we should have highlighted the issues while we were at the hotel, or chosen an upgraded room which would have more comforts suited to a pregnant woman. Like, really? Definitely not worth the money you pay. We visited the Niramaya and a few more properties around, and all seemed much better. Pls don’t let hour expectations of QT elsewhere guide you when booking here. Better off staying somewhere else
Checked in by friendly young lady and was offered a drying frame to be put in the room. Then had to wheel suitcases about 150 yards, (we weren't travelling light being on holiday for 6 weeks) when we got to the room (ha ha!) the porter had dropped off the clothes drier using a buggy - He could have taken our cases for us but didn't - 1st black mark. Now to the room 4108 (If I remember correctly). Once the two of us and our luggage were in the room, we could hardly walk round the bed at all and certainly couldn't if we opened a suitcase. The wardrobe was about 10" wide and already contained an ironing board. That was the only storage space available and contained 2 coathangers!!! Were a bit dismayed to say the least. 2nd black mark.. One of the door cards wouldn't work, so went to reception to get it fixed and in chatting the girl said that we could have an upgrade for A$40 per night. Having looked at the room, decided to take it and upgraded. This would appear to be a standard stitch up as we later met an Aussie couple in NZ who had suffered the same trick at this hotel. Had fresh fruit for breakfast, was really good. However, my customary full English wasn't - the fried eggs looked as if they had been sat there for hours. In all the other hotels, eggs were cooked to order, here they weren't. Was rather disappointed overall at what could have been really good experience was spoiled so thoroughly
My husband and I booked this resort through Luxury Escapes who called it a Super Stylish Tropical escape for 5 days. It is a little dated, not stylish. The carpets were stained and outside our room the walls have horrible stains that have not been washed off. Dirty looking building. There is a laundry to self wash but it was filthy with rat or mouse droppings all over the machines. There seemed to be one staff member at check in who is also the person who takes the calls from the room when you have a query. That is if you can them to pickup the phone. One staff member doing pool bar, food delivery and pool clean up. Breakfast was included but no matter what time you arrived you would have to clean your table before sitting down. Once again, one staff member to do the till and clean and setup all tables. But the worst thing was trying to get your room cleaned. We chose to go green one day and they marked us off for the whole 5 days. We only wanted our room cleaned once during our stay , but had to repeatedly request this to no avail until we bumped into some cleaners and then it was cleaned. We were informed of new management change who culled staff. The staff themselves were good and are doing the best that they can. But definitely more staff are needed to maintain a clan resort.
I am disappointed to have to write this review - my husband & I chose very carefully where to stay for our Babymoon in Port Douglas. We read all reviews, but in the end decided to go with QT after having enjoyed their Sydney property and hoping the bad reviews on here were just one-offs. Unfortunately not. The framework for a fantastic resort is here - they have all the facilities and beautiful grounds. It’s just not executed well. Staff are run off their feet - I feel sorry for them, and that puts me off asking for them to do simple things (such as a coffee with my breakfast, or a serviette with my Pizza). I’ll start with housekeeping - poorly managed I gather. 1st night we actually had to turn the entire bed around as it was sinking with our heads down (and being 30 weeks pregnant not ideal) - beds are terrible. On the third day, we advised reception at 10:30am that we had found Doritos all through the couch - they were “shocked” and said they would get the room to have a deep clean. Returned at 4:30pm - room still not touched. Called and they came - however assume it was a rush job, sheets weren’t changed (despite supposed to be changed on the 3rd night). On the 4th day we asked at 1pm to have the sheets changed (as they weren’t done again during the daily service). Returned at 4pm - still not done. Can’t be bothered following up. Secondly the food & beverage - pool bar intermittently open. It’s a Saturday today - and yep pool bar closed with about 30pax besides the pool. No music, no atmosphere. Lastly, the high amount of locals at the pool completely puts us off. On Wednesday there were honestly about 10-15 kids running around screaming, and the mums were next to me - saying to their kids “kids please try to be quiet, there’s people here on their holidays”. Yes we are. And your kids ruined our relaxation time. Today there was a birthday party taking over a section of the pool. I am so disappointed that now I’ll be returning home and not recommending your property. Such a shame. All in all we still enjoyed our stay - we actually had a massage at Niramaya Villas & Spa and ended up sitting by their pool for hours just due to their being less than 10 kids there. You’d have to wonder if the additional $ you’re getting from the locals, if it’s worth putting off guests actually paying to stay??? Again, such a shame as we can’t redo our Babymoon experience again...
Loved the room (very spacious and clean), the pool area was great, the grounds were very tropical and neat and tidy (considering the floods a few days earlier). I loved the buffet breakfast it was awesome and ate way too much. The staff were friendly and my daughter loved the Easter Hunt. Only thing i will say is i think the girls skirts are a little short the poor things cant bend over in them (bit tacky). But overall had an amazing stay. Thank you QT
We recently celebrated our 25th Wedding anniversary with a Luxury Escapes Package at QT Port Douglas...unfortunately cyclone Nora invited herself along so the weather was pretty awful throughout our stay!!! However...our apartment was neat and clean, basic furnishings and well stocked kitchen if you wanted to self cater...but nothing luxury about it! Reception staff were friendly on arrival but no offer with bags to our rooms and showing where it was located aside from on a map and also not particularly knowledgeable with ongoing assistance regarding weather and road closures as the weather deteriorated. Service staff were friendly and helpful for our room and also at bar and breakfast. Buffet breakfast was pretty average in terms of quality and choice (nothing gluten free identified or on offer) I did however request a teapot for tea and the staff found one for me, and then each day remembered and bought it out for me which was very kind! Unfortunately our package included spa vouchers and food vouchers but we were told on arrival that the spa was closed for our stay and so was the restaurant! We were able to use the spa vouchers for food however the only place we could use them was at the bar for drinks and light meals which was a little disappointing to not have this information ahead of time! The property is large and spread out however with torrential rain there are no covered walkways and everything is open air or a bit of a walk including reception, bar and restaurant so getting around without getting very wet was near impossible. The gym facilities were good and we used them each day however they were also a bit of a walk from the main buildings so we needed our gum boots and wet weather gear to get there. With a car the main centre of Port Douglas was a 5 minute drive away and was full of restaurants, a Coles supermarket and some nice shops to explore but would not be an easy walk if you were without one. We had a good stay at QT but would not be racing back for another...
This particular hotel is about 3 km out of town, a shuttle bus runs about every ten minutes from the hotel to town and return for $ 16.00.The rooms are quite large, and modern. It is a very large property, I would say approx 20 acres or more. Just a very special thanks to a young lady called Meg, who carried our suitcases up stairs. Just hope managment passed on our thanks to her.
Arrived 5 AM and reception were expecting us and took luggage to room; also procured wheelchair from somewhere to accommodate my broken foot - very considerate.Excellent large room, more like a mini-suite, large living/dining area, fridge, microwave, crockery etc, good-sized bedroom and bathroom. Had asked for ground floor (didn't see any lifts) , quieter non-pool facing which we got and heard no noise at all. Quite a spread-out complex so appreciated being near to public areas. Lovely lush tropical grounds and great pool with swim-up bar, integral jacuzzi feature and lots of fun inflatables for kids, young and old! Also, tennis courts and gym on site. Decent enough self-service breakfast, plenty of choice but not too hot; nice indoor/outdoor bar area serving good bar type meals at reasonable prices. Otherwise, all you can eat buffet in Bazaar restaurant, steaks, seafood etc but very expensive and didn't seem to be open every night - possibly through lack of demand. Lovely, helpful staff throughout resort. Only drawback was that it was quite isolated, no shops, bars or restaurants within walking distance meant on-demand shuttle bus into town costing 5 Aus dollars per person each way. Likewise, not great access to beach and definite non-starter for wheelchair user. Would stay again if in area.
We had an issue where our AC broke in our room and they immediately transferred us to a new room and upgraded us without any prompt or request by us. Having two pools is great as it means if you just want to swim laps without all of the noise of family's. Only reason the 4 rather then 5 stars is our original room was a little tired (nothing terrible just needed some paint touch ups)
The Resort is a bit out of Town, you need a Car Service is a bit slack We have been laying around the Pool area for 4 hrs and nobody came around to collect the dirty towels from people who already left ages ago. We ordered Lunch from the Poolbar and the order/ table number we got for our food was disgusting dirty. It's easy to clean just wipe the spots off.... See photo Food tasted very good.... Except from the Burgers everything is well priced But to pay $25 for a Burger ? Autsch Around the Pool area are loose wooden panels which is quite dangerous Also the Pool has some mouldy spots The pool bar door needs a good scrub Lovely Resort but needs a bit of work Room was ok nothing special Staff was friendly
