QT Port Douglas4.5 out of 5.0

We've stayed at QT in Sydney and were expecting a similar experience, but we were disappointed with what other reviews have aptly described as a shabby operation. There are some good aspects of the Resort, like the common areas and above average pool. Its an old hotel that's been given a cheerful QT facelift and that would be ok if it wasn't so rough on the edges. Overall it has a bit of a dirty and poorly cared feel. The restaurant was the worst food and service we had in Port Douglas (definitely try other places), the cocktail was devoid of alcohol and the pizza devoid of flavour. We were next to the house keeping room and they just left the door open to all the chemicals etc and the cart next to it next to our door all the time because they were too lazy to close it and put the cart away. Despite our proximity the cleaners cupboard we didn't even have our room cleaned. We called up to complain and were told its because the hotel was full and they had a lot of rooms to clean... sorry but that's what I thought a hotel was meant to do. Our room was large and fun, but still had a cheapness to the finishes. There were things like our microwave didn't work and the balcony door didn't open. We like most rooms were located miles from the lobby, car park, pool... basically everything and the common spaces to get there are quite depressing. The grounds are ok but a lot more could be done - simple things like beer bottles sitting in them is not a great look. Whilst the weather wasn't great but the Pool bar was shut on a Saturday... We will definitely be staying somewhere else next time we come up.
Ordered two pizzas at the restaurant at 6:30 to be delivered to or room. Requested an update at 8:30, and was told they were coming. Canceled them at 9pm and the family went to sleep with no dinner. We were obviously very upset and received no apology.
An older style property a few minutes drive from the main centre. I found this hotel odd. On the surface, first impressions, I was impressed. It boasts a lovely foyer area and gardens. The pool is magnificent, I give it that. Thing is the pool area is not restricted to inhouse guests. Anyone can march on in and take a lounger and park up at the pool for the day. Maybe it is expected they will buy a drink but there is no policing. Kind of sucks, here we are paying to stay there and there are backpackers parked up on the prime loungers using sarongs as towels?? I am sorry but for that reason alone I would warn people off staying here. I have never come across such a loose outfit in all my time. The pool swim up bar is a nice addition, unfortunetly, it was not adequately staffed so you should expect to wait 20 mins for service at busy times. By the end of they day the pool area (which is lovely) is strewn with plastic cups and straws....where are the staff? Most shockingly were the poolside toilets. As mentioned above, anyone can use this pool, so these toilets are public toilets, I guess (see photos). This is built up grime. The rooms are lovely. Though I am not quite sure about the offer of $10 off the nightly fee (toward food and bev) is such a good idea for staying on top of cleaning. I can only guess this is an effort to reduce housekeeping staff? They say is is for environmental reasons...I understand reusing towels is common practice but having the option to say NO to any servicing whatsoever? The breakfast buffet was nice. Juices, smoothies, pastries, fruit, pancakes, bacon, sausages, hash browns, tomatoes, mushooms and such items. Hot and tasty. We still had a good time at QT, it was just slightly disappointing. The rooms were fine, gardens lovely...I just wouldn't recommend it due to the loose policy on who can enter and use the resorts facilites. Thanks for having us QT Port Douglas
The grounds of QT Port Douglas were so picturesque and the pool was lovely to lounge around but the pool bar unfortunately was a let down, it has so much potential hopefully this will improve... The rooms were comfortable and clean. We will definitely consider QT on our next visit to Port Douglas.
Staying at QT for a week. Don't think it's going to be long enough. Good service good food. Our room had everything we wanted. A great place for families with an awesome pool area with shallow well covered areas for children
Firstly, the good bits: Public areas are delightful. Large, spacious bar and restaurant flank the central walkway of the lobby, and are surrounded with water lilly ponds and fountains. It's a nice place to relax. Staff in the kitchen and bar areas are also attentive and friendly. Good cocktails and bar food (we opted to have breakfast and some of the great cafes on the main strip) We were staying here for a wedding that was at the hotel, and the reception was a magical experience, with exceptional food and great service. Unfortunately, cleanliness and attention to detail let down the QT in a major way, and this property does not live up to expectations. Despite some friendly banter at check in about our recent marriage, we found ourselves in a room with two single beds. Not the worst thing in the world, sure, but still odd. Fortunately this was remedied on day 2. Unfortunately, the room was pretty average; large stains on the carpet (see attached pics) and dead insects and dust that hadn't been cleaned in months. Mouldy shower heads and grout demonstrate that neither basic cleaning nor routine inspections take place as often as they should. No pricing could be found for the minibar, there weren't enough lights in the room, the curtains were broken, and items in the common area like broken table tennis bats and pool cues mentioned in previous reviews still haven't been rectified. I could go on, but the bottom line is that hotels like this are supposedly representing the best Australia has to offer to international tourists, but foreign guests would be horrified; you wouldn't see this in a 4 star property in Asia.
The hotel is good, staff very friendly, but problem with housekeeping. Breakfast all the time the same, viraety is ok. I liked it but would search for other hotels next time. Would recomend add more staff for breakfast
I liked it. I didnt love it as much as I loved the QT Gold Coast. I understand its the destination, more villa style and cyclone proof building. Its older and seems tired. The bathrooms were not very nice - very small and didnt seem overly clean. I was surprised there was no assistance with the luggage, checking in or out - this was below standard. There is stairs there and I have my parents and kids with me, and after a 4 hour flight and a 1 hour car trip - I was exhausted and I felt this detail was lacking somewhat. The service in the resturant was ok, coffees took forever to come once ordered.
We are being seriously generous with three stars. We expected for more based on our preconceptions of what this place would be like. For the price we paid we have stayed in sweets at the Sofitel in Melbourne and Brisbane. A couple of staff are good, but with the majority, they could do with some serious professionalism training. What would make a huge difference is if the staff actually really cared about the customers, instead of seeing them as an interruption and inconvenience to their day.
Unique in that full payment for 5 day stay demanded on arrival - unheard of. No toilet paper in room and long delay in getting any. Shelves in room undusted. Shower drain blocked and shower base grimy. Long delays in meal service although meals good. Breakfast at $28 PLUS $4 for a cup of coffee excessive. Place lacks care and maintenance and building very tired. No lifts and lugging bags to level 2 not fun in the October heat and humidity. Some staff off-hand but some charming. Calls itself 5 star and charges at that rate but not 5 star building or service. Cannot recommend.
