We had a fantastic time staying at QT but were disappointed with the poor service. The staff weren't overly friendly or helpful and we waited far too long for food on multiple occasions. The wifi also didn't work properly.
We visited for the spa only, nowhere near as plush as the Sydney QT spa by any means but the service is good. The staff are very lovely and we're really helpful over the phone. We visited earlier than our treatment to use the pool which was huge and nice - unheated (not needed!). The pool bar was playing good music which was great - HEAPS of sunbeds mostly in the sun. After visiting I was glad we didn't book accommodation there but it was a great little trip to the spa and pool.
Aesthetically this place is great. We loved the pool/s, gym, lap pool and location. However our 10 day stay lacked service and practicality in our room. 1. Our room was lovely but the kitchen was tiny and missing key equipment for us to cook the basics for a 10 day stay (I guess they want you to eat out). A toaster would have been great though. 2. Our door didn’t close properly and when we approached housekeeping they said they knew about It and would just close it when they saw it open….sorry ‘what’!? However maintenance fixed it very quickly. 3. Our room keys (swipe) kept not working each time we would go out and return. We had to go to front desk four times before we were told to keep them away from mobile phones etc as they will deactivate. (maybe in this day and age we should have known this, but still, no harm in letting us know!) Very frustrating. 3. Pool bar service was atrocious. Lovely food, but complete lack of ‘personality with a smile’ from the pool bar staff and very unhelpful. Having worked in hospitality for years I’m aware of how you are to treat customers. We love Port Douglas, but won’t be returning to QT.
I really enjoyed my stay at QT Port Douglas. I had a one bedroom apartment overlooking the pool with a balcony off the bedroom and living room. The apartment was in good order with a large bathroom with shower over the spa bath. The kitchen is minimal with a small stocked fridge and microwave. The resort facilities are excellent. A nice pool with pool bar, a great bar area and restaurant. There are tennis courts, a 25 meter lap pool and gym. The overall vibe is relaxed, friendly and tropical. The service was mostly good. My nephews loved the pool and ping pong tables and my brother and I loved the cocktails on offer and the bar staff with personality! The resort is a thirty minute walk to town but there is a regular shuttle bus every half an hour so it was not a problem for me ($10 return). Tours pick up from the hotel. The breakfasts were interesting and had lots of different choices to try. The buffet dinner was exceptional - a must do if you can. Small in scale but big in flavour. The chefs here care about what they do and you can tell. The best whole Barramundi outside of Katherine I have tried in many years. Iam happy to say that QT met and exceeded my 4 star expectations - I had a fabulous week and would recommend and return tomorrow if I could. That my friends, is as good as it gets. A ps to QT - Would have loved a French Press in the room for coffee, not enamoured with having to pay extra for a cappacino at breakfast and found the magnetic room key failures annoying (as must your front desk staff!) none of which would stop me returning.
just returned from a 4 night stay at QT & loved the resort. This was our second visit after 6 years & the standards of the resort have improved. We had a pool villa which lead straight on to the large pool area & was very close to the restaurant. The buffet breakfast was great & well worth getting included in your room price. Only negative was the pool/room service menu which didn't have your standard food such as club sandwiches, burgers etc & kids food. Overall a very good place to stay.
My husband and I recently stayed for 5 nights in a one bedroom apartment. The apartment was fairly spacious with three rooms - kitchen/living/dining, bedroom, and bathroom. The kitchenette had a small hotplate, convection oven, fridge and table and chairs. The bed was quite soft although comfortable enough. Bathroom wasn't huge but had a nice big shower. Both the bedroom and living area had balconies, ceiling fans and split system air con. Decor was modern although not as on-trend as the photos would lead you to believe. The apartment was clean with the usual wear and tear that popular accommodation gets (marks on walls, scuffing etc) so I'm not sure if other complaints regarding cleanliness and rooms needing a refurb are just being extremely picky? The toilet roll holder was broken and probably should have been fixed although it wasn't an issue worth complaining about. No laundry facilities in our room but there is a coin laundry available. The property has around 5 blocks of accommodation and most seem to face each other so you will probably want to keep blinds closed. Ours overlooked the garden and was near the pool, I'd avoid a poolside/view room as these were very close to the main pool. There's no lift so if mobility is an issue ask for a ground floor room. We heard music on Sunday morning (weird) but overall it was fairly quiet. We used the gym several times which was fine and had everything we needed. The lap pool is quite big although we didn't use that (or the spa). The main pool area is large and we went most days and enjoyed it. We ate at Estilo but did not have breakfast or the buffet available in the other restaurant. Oh and yes the wifi is pretty bad if you are out of the main reception! We enjoyed our stay overall but felt the service was a bit of a let down and probably the difference between very good and excellent. We ate a couple of times at Estilo and waited a long time (30-40 mins) for our food both times (food was pretty good though). The pool bar is chronically understaffed and some staff spent more time chatting to friends than serving customers or cleaning up (although to be fair most guests were lazy and just left their rubbish instead of using the bins). The $10 discount off your food and beverage bill for not getting your room serviced is a great idea, and we did use this although the one day we did want our room serviced it wasn't and we had to request it. Another day we had staff come by to service even though we had left the flyer on the door to say we didn't want it serviced. So as mentioned, enjoyed it overall and would recommend but just a bit rough around the edges.
