Stayed at QT Port Douglas over New Years (6 nights). We should have heeded the warning from the Tripadvisor reviews, but instead booked. The rooms are very basic and in need of a good paint. The king-zip bed had a dip where it was zipped together and the curtains in our room had 5 or 6 holes in them so the sun shone through in the mornings, no backing white sheer or blackout curtain available. During our stay (6 nights) the bedsheets weren't changed once. We returned one afternoon to find the bed made and an M&M in the bed we'd accidentally dropped earlier on the bed. Food selection was very average in the restaurants and there was never anything new on the breakfast buffet (Bazaar) to change things up a bit. Seemed the restuarant and pool bar were always understaffed as most mornings our plates just stacked up on the table (buffet) and we had to clear our own plates at the New Year Buffet dinner. Getting a drink at the pool bar could take up to 20 minutes and the clear plastic cups tended to be left around the pool, eventually stepping on them in the pool after they'd blown in and sunk to the bottom. There also always seemed to be a good number of locals in the pool area (able to pay to use the facilities), which meant hotel guests trying to get a sun bed seemed impossible sometimes. We did raise our concerns a couple of times and they were ackowledged/addressed, but normally given a standard response that QT Port Douglas is a 4 star property and should not be compared to the other QT properties around Australia. I would personally say a lot of guests do come with the expectation it will be similar and some (those who have experienced the QT brand) leave disappointed. If I was to return to Port Douglas I would look at staying elsewhere and not at the QT.
Lovely room with comfortable bed. The hotel/area as a whole is very beautiful. Only issue was that room service arrived 45 minutes before our checkout time and attempted to enter our room while we were still in bed, after only one knock on the door.
The QT is an ideal base to relax. It has a decent bar/restaurant and an expensive restaurant too. The disability accessible apartment had plenty of space and a seat in the shower. They also provided a raised toilet seat if needed. There are no facilities nearby so you will need to stock up at Port Douglas if you don’t want to eat in either of the restaurants. A shuttlebus goes pretty regularly. They are offered by many different companies but all cost he same. There are tennis courts and a lap pool and other sports facilities but I think you have to pay extra to use these. There is a decent pool to have a swim and relax by though. A nice touch was the free home made lemonade in the lobby area.
We had an enjoyable, relaxing stay at QT's. We stayed in a two bedroom villa which was spacious and included all the basics plus a washing machine and dryer. The pool area is well laid out with some shady spots available. The staff were friendly and helpful and responded to any requests in a timely manner. The reception area did seem short staffed though at times. The restaurant and bar area has a good range of food and it is only a five minute drive into Port Douglas if you want to mix it up a little plus you can prepare a few basic meals in your own room if you like. All in all a great place to unwind.
This is the 3rd different QT I have stayed in, while it was different from the Syd and Mlb versions, it was still delightful. We had a quiet room at the back and we loved it. Staff were friendly and helpful. Restaurant and bar were also excellent. Only problem is the lack of staff in the pool area. There was always alcohol bottles laying around and leftover plates of food. It was difficult to get towels too. This area needs attention. But overall a great place to stay
We stayed here with our five year old twins for a week in August. The hotel ticked all our boxes - two rooms, parking, free wifi, large pool, and laundry facilities in room. I read all of the reviews on trip advisor, so I had realistic expectations. I booked the hotel three months in advance but kept a price alert on the booking, and was able to get almost a 50% discount from the original booking since the price kept going down, which made a big difference on what we were expecting. We also felt like we got a bargain for such a large suite. The suite was fine. It was roomy but there was a faint smell of mold that we couldn't get rid of. We didn't have any towels in the room on arrival and a couple of light bulbs were burnt out, but the staff quickly rectified this. It was important to us to have enough space to relax in. After reading reviews about the restaurants, we decided to make our own meals for breakfast and lunch and eat dinner in Port Douglas. The town is a five minute drive away, but it would be difficult to get to without a car. The pool was great and our children were happy to play in the pool every day. All in all, this was a good experience for the price that we paid - I would be disappointed if we paid full price. This is not a 5* hotel. I'd put it at the low end of a 4* hotel. The staff were good but not the level of a 5* resort. I would recommend it for other families to use it as a base for activities on the Great Barrier Reef and in Port Douglas.
Service was terrible, carpets were putrid with holes in the curtains and the rooms smelt of mould and dampness. Rooms were "cleaned" yet no bins were changed and left overflowing. We stayed over the Christmas period in which we knew would come with closures etc but not the actual restaurant within the resort. The bar was closed by the pool and they weren't serving alcohol at the bar unless with food yet there was only 1 option of Bar food.There was no notification about this when we checked in nor provided to us throughout our stay. Overall was a pretty horrible stay, for the money we paid i would have expected a lot more. This was a 3 star minimum.
This hotel doesn’t live up to what it proclaims and having read a couple of ‘official’ reviews online, I actually wondered whether I’m staying in the same hotel and what these ‘reviewers’ have gained by writing some very blatant lies. No, the 4 mile beach is definitely not across the road from the hotel. It’s about a 15 min car journey! To start with the positives, the staff here are brilliant and will absolutely go the extra mile for customers. They work long shifts and you see the same staff day after day and after 12 hour shifts which doesn’t seem right, yet they keep smiling and being genuinely helpful. I think the problem with this hotel is the management and wider strategic direction, or lack there of. I think it was once a swish hotel but due to lack of upkeep and attention to detail, it’s now quite dilapidated. Sagging damp marks on the ceilings, heavily stained carpets and dead insect debris covering walls and ceilings is not what I would expect for the money we have paid. There is no WiFi in some of the rooms (we had to move due to this) and the swim up bar was closed for most of our stay. The food is average at best and the atmosphere in the hotel bar after 7pm is non existent. If you stay here, you’re also looking at adding on at least $80 to buy a shuttle bus pass for a couple for the week, just so you can access town and the marina. It certainly is not an easy 20 minute walk, like some of the reviews suggests. If you’re coming back in a shuttle after dinner, also be ready to share it with loud and very drunk people who are being dropped off here, there and everywhere on route. There are little children everywhere and of course this is fine however, if you’re after a romantic break, or a rest, then don’t stay here. We were unlucky enough to be put in a room just below two children who continuously ran up and down the apartment, resulting in continuous banging on our ceiling, early in the morning. Management’s response is that we can move. Again. All in all, I wouldn’t stay here again, nor recommend it to anyone. I shall also be sharing my views with my travel agent friends so that they can perhaps rethink their customer recommendations. The staff are too good for this very mediocre hotel- which is sold as luxury. Its more like a 3 star family resort.
The pool was great, the service from the reception and concierge staff was amazing and the room was lovely. The only let down was the dining, the food was below average and the waitstaff were quite bad as well.
We stayed for 5 nights at the QT Port Douglas, having previously stayed at the QT in Sydney we expected much better. The resort is tired, understaffed, with limited and not very nice food options. Apart from the pool, which is quite nice, the whole resort was way below par. Certainly not a luxury resort and I wouldn’t be recommending it to anyone. For the price one pays there’s much better options.
