Friendly staff, nice hot cooked breakfast, each item of breakfast food chosen from a menu, coffee very luke warm unfortunately, hotel clean, one small incident while we stayed but receptionist sorted it out straight away with understanding and courteous. The porter could have been a little more courteous and a little less grumpy but this didn't apply to the rest of the staff, they were kind and helpful.

The Duke of Cornwall is a historical hotel for Plymouth, and that is how it looks from the outside and inside. There is a large staircase to reach the upper floors, complete with ornamental furniture and toilets between floors. The is a lift too, but it was quite small. My room was on the fifth floor and I could see out towards the harbour and Drake's Island. It had everything you might expect: bed, tea things, TV, en suite shower room, place to hand clothes, but no safe. The bed was comfortable. The room was quite warm even with the radiator switched off, but there were opening windows. I didn't have any food or drink in the hotel, however all the interactions with reception were friendly and helpful. Location wise, it is a short walk away from the main shopping area and equally close to the sea.

The room was very tired and not clean. The windows were badly maintained and rattled all night in their frames. The chair in the room was broken -luckily we noticed before we sat on it. The bathroom was dirty and the door wouldn’t lock. The door lock to the corridor was also faulty. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent. The staff have offered to put things right next time I stay and did give a partial refund due to the condition of the room. It’s a beautiful building but needs maintenance The staff are a big asset

Lovely old hotel full of character very close to the Hoe and within walking distance to the Barbican. Dogs welcome throughout the hotel although you have to take breakfast in the bar if accompanied by your dog. My dog was made very welcome and even had his own sausage for breakfast. Have stayed here before and plan to do so in the future. Thank you to the very friendly staff.

The internal decor was very much in keeping with a mid-Victorian period hotel. But it did show wear in some of the public spaces. The soundproofing between rooms was excellent, we heard nothing at all from our neighbours. A much different situation from most modern hotels. The bathroom was small but it was the fact that the light over the sink, one of the 2 lights over the bath and the extractor fan did not work. It was reported to the receptionist, but not fixed in the 34 before we left. Breakfast was a disappointing warming tray buffet with anemic bacon and industrial sausages. However, the staff were, without exception, cheerful, helpful and welcoming. The hotel also has a proactive approach to sustainability and recycling. Could do with secondary glazing, condensation was very heavy after a chilly night.
