Honestly, this is the most peaceful and stunningly beautiful resorts. I have stayed there six times and been more happy each time. The service is outstanding, the food is delicious, and the villas are phenomenal. Do yourself a favour and take your other half and maybe a couple of chilled out mates. Not suitable for toddlers, pools have no fence.
The Residence is a great place for family/friends getaway! We rented a 3 bedroom villa with a pool-every morning this great team shows up exactly at the time you choose- and they lay out a wonderful breakfast!! Great way to start the day!! The pool and yard were cleaned daily- and the covered roof-top was perfect for grilling- and the staff carried a clean and prepped grill to the roof for me!! Beds were comfortable- everything was spotless- The staff was just super!! Come home to the Residence!!!
I needed to book a last minute room at 11pm for my friend and called the resort directly. Ning, the front desk manager was really helpful in arranging a 3am airport transfer for her. Our two bedroom villa was very clean (no bugs!) and nice and the complimentary breakfast (while not the best I've had in Thailand) was sufficient. However, there was a blackout the next morning that also included the running water so that was inconvenient. You could probably find a cheaper hotel but we wanted something solid and dependable at the panicky time that we booked and this was it. Recommend if you're in a likewise pinch!
I made my reservation on Booking.com and it was a birthday surprise for my partner. I even went early before arrival to ensure that everything was fine without hiccups but still they dropped the ball anyway. Overall experience was rather disappointing. So here goes a condensed story of a celebratory stay here. I arrived in advance to do checkin formalities to avoid any delays when I returned with my partner only to discover that they had conveniently changed my room type without consulting with me. Albeit the fact that they gave me a bigger pool, the entire layout was different from the duplex unit which I had originally booked. So I spend running around the hotel with their FOM (front office manager) for almost an hours trying to find an alternative unit and in the end I was finally assigned the original villa type that I booked. I asked if they could arrange for a small birthday cake, 'No'; a bit surprised to hear that a property calling itself a resort couldn't arrange for a cake. I asked about making a dinner reservation at Catch Club to which I noticed a resisted body language and an attempt to promote something else to what I needed (earn a commission I guessed) was put in play. So I informed that I would go and make the booking directly at the club as its close by anyway and did so as such. In any case, I made a few observations that needed attention to the villa and left after informing FOM to address the concern (villa AC wasn't cool to mention one). My partner & I came back about 2 hours later and I was frustrated to find that AC wasn't switched on correctly and it was still warm in the villa. After doing this AC chore, I wanted to order some food but no room service menu was available, tried to call reception but of course the phone wasn't working. Hmmmmm!! So I use my mobile to call the main number provided by Booking.com as 'contact property' ... no answer (4 attempted calls). In the midst of this I look for a wine glass to enjoy a Rose wine I brought only to discover the glassware were filthy (pretty much chucked after a rinse from last stay ... finger prints, smudge marks and dust). So what else to do but drive back all the way to reception (yes, it was that far from my villa) and to explain to them of the grief I was facing only to be given a shunned stare and told that phone was working fine. Then I had to prove to them that their working phone theory was incorrect to which I was told why I didn't call the 'other number'! Seriously ... are the staffs here that mentally challenged! As calmly as possible I detailed everything encountered and explained that it was their responsibility to resolve the issues urgently as it's a celebratory stay and a stay experience should't be this painful and difficult and I drove back to my villa. A girl came about some time later and apparently she was tasked to clean glassware only. What about taking my food order ... she called someone and I waited more till another staff came whose task was clearly to take my food order and all this time no one fixed the phone. I did mention condensed version so I will sum it up to say that the rest of my interactions with 'people/staff' were pretty much in similar capacity (no fun)! I will mention that the villa was indeed lovely, enjoyed the pool, we were happy with the food and bed was comfortable. I will give credit where it's due to be fair. Would I recommend this property, unfortunately not with the experience I had here!
We loved our stay at the Residence resort and spa Bangtao. We stayed in a 2bed villa for a few days whilst we waited for our villa to complete here. Very private, tropical garden with great sized pool to enjoy. 2 large bedrooms, both with ensuite big bathrooms. We could walk to the beach, restaurants, villa market, boat avenue, local markets all within 2-12 minutes so location is perfect as it is near everything but very private and quiet at the same time. 24hour security made us feel very safe also. We are very happy that we can spend much more time here in the future. . A tropical paradise with stunning mountain views.
We rented villa 14 for four nights, I can honestly say this is a wonderful place, but I must warn you about the neighboors in Villa 15. One morning, they were playing cheap heavy metal very loud and it really interupted the morning, we asked them to switch it down, which they did. Later that evening, we found the rearview mirror of our rental car had been twisted the wrong way and slightly damaged (impossible to be an accident) it was outside our garage in a private driveway just for us and the neighbours.. We suspect they took revenge. A shame as it really is a beautiful villa.
no welcome drink at the reception. location is not close to beach. misrepresented by pictures. rooms and pool not the one you see. supervisors always missing. restaurant closed, under construction, and is not advised in advance. room service charges for water (big bottles) and did not replenish the small water bottles. taxi to airport - overcharged. no generator - for electricity cuts. no umbrella at reception. our problem was only resolved in 3 days, without any follow up. no extra toilet paper in room. kleenex finished and not replenished.
We chose this place in July for part of our honeymoon because we wanted a private pool and it was one of the only places available for our dates 12/27-1/03. We were told on arrival that the place was fully booked, just to give you a picture of high season: Positives: +The room was cleaned daily with free items in the fridge, spacious with lots of amenities such as microwave, toaster, hair dryer, beach towels, two strong aircons, etc.. +Coming from Korea we didn't notice the bed being hard and the comforter was very soft. +The two deck chairs by the plunge pool were very comfortable. +We enjoyed breakfast being delivered to the room every day- nothing says honeymoon like room service! Especially the danishes and fresh fruit (although it was the same 6/7 days) +The friendliest people were the security guards. The area: +We didn't have a car or scooter so we either used the shuttle service (must book in advance), walked to Tesco, or used the app GrabTaxi to get around- definitely recommend this especially if you're going to another part of Phuket later. +Friday Market by Boat Avenue was awesome with a wide selection although getting back from there was difficult +Villa Market in Boat Avenue had a wide range of international food items +Within walking distance of Taste Bar and The Cafe Gourmand Not so positives: -Our room was near the lobby but had limited sunlight- we wanted to sunbathe and ended up sitting on the ledge by the waterfall next to the pool. -Some of the breakfast options were a miss- skip the ham and chicken sausages. Since all the food comes in Saran Wrap, things like waffles aren't crispy. We opted for untoasted bread and used the toaster. We tried lunch once but as other reviewers noted- the food comes lukewarm.. - Poorly designed bathroom- clear doors right next to bed +/-We tried the mind & body treatment for 1.5 hours at the Hattarkan Spa but quickly learned later after finding other spas in the area not attached to hotels this was extremely expensive at 2500 baht/person. Of course you're paying for convenience, professionalism, and the atmosphere and the steam, scrub and massage were good but found places 1/4 price with similar services (search spas on TA, we liked Thai Carnation). -Once we booked a taxi with the hotel to Sunset Restaurant and it was 300baht and grabbing a taxi on the way back was half that. -The customer service still leaves something to be desired. We realized we had to walk to the main lobby and speak with the manager to be fully understood. Calling the front office for basic questions/requests resulted in a lot of miscommunication. - Just one example: one day we were going to stay in our room all day lounging so we called (twice) to tell the front desk we didn't need our rooms cleaned, only to remove the breakfast dishes (yes you have to call daily or wait for room cleaning) and to bring the 2 waters that come every day. Eventually after a couple hours, the cleaning ladies came and nobody relayed the message to them because they started bringing in their mops and brooms and we had to explain to them how we wanted the dishes removed so we could make lunch.. -We used the shuttle service to go to Bangtao Beach and as someone recommended- didn't stay at Catch Club because you still had to buy an overpriced drink and instead lounged at See Sea. We got dropped off and picked up in the same spot. No problem. The next day we wanted to go earlier than the 1st shuttle so we walked to the beach and scheduled the pickup for later on our way out. We waited in the same spot as the day before for 20 minutes and finally just took a tuk tuk back. They said the driver was waiting at Catch but nobody ever informed us ahead of time that this was the pick up location since it wasn't the same as the day before. *Ways they could improve: - Make breakfast delivery a range of time such as 8-8:30 not just 8 or 8:30 to give more flexibility. About half the time our order was incorrect and we suspect it was because of this limited time frame.. -Change room cleaning from daily to every couple or few days. We'd much rather have them remove the breakfast dishes daily in the morning than have them sit all day until room cleaning @ 3. We don't need new towels/floor cleaned/bed made every day, etc..just for the breakfast dishes to be removed, clean dishes in the sink and refill the fridge items. Since you have to do your own dishes, they didn't provide any sort of drying rack or dish towel.. Also have more than 3 forks or have breakfast come with forks- hopefully the restaurant will open soon to eliminate this problem. -Train the staff in customer service- there was a lot of miscommunication. [Overall it was a good stay, but not amazing and unless they improve, not sure I'd recommend it. There is a lot of potential but it seems like many things were overlooked, they spread themselves too thin, there needs to be consistency and the basics of customer service and hospitality need to be refreshed.]
we booked 5 nights mid-december 2015 and could not have found a better place to stay and relax. the grounds are well kept, the staff always ready to help when needed. the private villa comes with a full kitchen. you will need transportation to get around but the residence amenities provide shuttles to bangtao (where you can hang out at bliss beach club - you can use the beach chairs and towels from here) and surin beaches. most tour companies will offer direct pick up from your hotel so this shouldn't be a problem. there is a night market and supermarket at just 10-15 minutes walk from the villas, check the schedule with front desk. we walked to the market and took a tuk-tuk back to the hotel with all our fresh fruits and vegetables. overall a perfect stay if you're in for relaxation- this is the place to be! if you're looking to party, you should consider booking closer to patong.
Husband booked the WOW package directly with the hotel, includes welcome drink, fruit basket, dinner and a massage. Massage was amazing, dinner was OK and you can choose when you want them. Pouring with rain on arrival but staff so wonderfully friendly and helpful, shielding us with umbrellas and smiles. Stayed in a 1 bed villa on Phase 3 (no 213 or 215?). Had asked for a pool with sun and that's what we got. Such a treat to have your own private plunge pool which was sparkling clean always although the timed filter system can be a bit noisy in the evening when you want to chill.Bed and pillows wonderful. air con great, shower and plumbing great, housekeeping wonderful, lighting, especially around the pool at night with the cascading waterfall was so hypnotic (once the filter stopped).Breakfast was such an excitement - such choice and delivered by the best man ever. All food was delivered during our stay as the restaurant was being refurbished. The interior is totally comfortable, if a little worn in places and after 17 days started to feel like a home from home. Return shuttle to beautiful Bangtao beach (10 mins) and the sublime Bliss Club which is a tad expensive but look at what you're getting and the food is good. Once you get your bearings you can walk into town (10 mins) for Tesco Lotus, coffee shops, etc, as it was cooler temps for us but the tuktuk is always a treat. Wouldn't try walking to the beach unless there is a secret path we never found. Local market x 2 weekly which is worth a look. Hotel taxis are on the expensive side. Find a local and meet him outside the gates. Overall it is what it says - a Retreat and Spa and a lovely one too.
