The good: Very attractive hotel with the most perfect location IMHO possible. Phnom Penh is transforming rapidly but if you want to see the old real French influence Phnom Penh this is the area to stay in. Room had beautiful old Cambodia mahagony furniture in excellent condition. The bed is firm and very comfortable for me. Air condition worked excellent (and I stayed at the peak of hot season). My balcony view (room 211) of the confluece of the Mekong and Tonle Sap is a world-class. Great people-watching below and enjoyed watching the boat and ship traffic on the Tonle Sap. Despite the busy street below, it was quite quiet in my room. ATM next to front door and excellent restaurant on ground floor. Very friendly staff. Good fast and reliable wifi. Good individually cooked breakfast (but is a buffet during high-season I'm told). Fair pricing (but there are some cheaper nearby). Refrigerator worked perfectly. Good safety box in room. Excellent hot water machine and good supply of coffee. Adaquate number of electrical outlets for an older hotel. The not so good: Lighting in the room was poor but maybe typical of these older Cambodian hotels. I carried my own lamp with LED bulb, which provided more light than all the lamps and ceiling lights in the room. TV had plenty of channels but most appeared fuzzy. Shower provided either cold water or extremely hot water, nothing in between. Sink drain wouldn't seal making it difficult to wash a few items. No elavator. I was told I had a room on the second floor which required walking up three flights of steps. I was lucky when I arrived in afternoon that there was young man who carried my heavy suitcase up but when I departed in evening, I had to carry my suitcase down. Other guests reported there was no one to carry their suitcases up. Room appeared very clean however when I moved the wooden cabinet that I placed my suitcase on there was.... (I'm not going to say) under it. Laundry prices are ridiculously high but I used them as I was told it would be a same day return, however my laundry arrived the next day. I recommend to walk around the corner for $1/kilo laundry service. All said and done, I wouldn't definitely stay there again.
We had a great few weeks staying at the Royal Bougainvillier Hotel on our Epic Animal Quest in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Breakfast In Royal Bougainvillier! Since we came to Phnom Penh a year ago, we have been overwhelmed by the fantastic selection of Vegan food available in restaurants across the city. The Bougainvillier Hotel is no exception, and the food we have eaten there has been great. Since our first visit and during our stay there, we were delighted to be able to help them implement five new Vegan dishes for their Tapas/Bar Menu! On top of this, though, the breakfast was always great for us. We enjoyed a selection in their buffet style breakfast time including traditional muesli and cereals, toast and jam, noodles, fried rice, vegetables stir fried, fresh fruit, salad, grilled tomatoes, baked beans, tea and coffee. Royal Bougainvillier Hotel Phnom Penh - The Room Our room was immaculate when we arrived and kept that way during our entire stay. Sheets were cleaned and changed, and the beds were so comfy! The view from the balcony was excellent, and we enjoyed chilling out as we looked down on the riverside and watched the world go by. Our room was actually a suite which was amazing. So spacious and clean, and fitted out with furniture and decor that gave a Cambodian vibe. We really had nothing to complain about and for us, the room and view was the best part of the hotel; it was brilliant. The TV had lots of channels and the WIFI was good and we got a good coverage in almost every part of our suite so all very happy! Rooftop Bar The bar was situated on the highest point in the hotel and was always run by very friendly bar staff who were really good at making great cocktails. They have regular happy hours and events too, and you don’t have to be a guest to drink there. The bar offers full meals and snacks, but there is also a restaurant that we helped implement five new Vegan dishes for! The views from the rooftop were so impressive and we got some great photos of the sunrise as it was directly across the river. The views really made eating and drinking at the rooftop bar a great experience. Reception The reception staff were brilliant. They were always on hand to help and would go out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. They made sure our room was cleaned and everything topped up. Food We are an all Vegan family, and the Chefs were more than happy to accommodate us. We were really proud to have been able to spend a couple of days with the Head Chef to implement 5 new Vegan dishes for their new menu, and we were really impressed with their vision and interest to appeal to Vegan guests at their Phnom Penh Hotel. No complaints at all. Overall We loved everything about The Royal Bougainvillier Hotel. It was clean, and staff were always on hand to help with anything at all and were very happy and friendly the whole time during our stay. They really made our time there one to remember. Thank you!
We are a family of four and have 2 young children. We stayed in this hotel for 1 month and really enjoyed our time here! Our room was amazing,on entering we walked into a huge space filled with beautiful dark wood furniture and traditional Khmer style decor. We had a very comfortable bed and a stylish sofa which could also be used as a bed if needed. There was so much space for our children to play and in addition to this we had a kitchen area with a hob, microwave, sink and fridge freezer. We had our own bathroom with a lovely hot shower and clean towels replenished when needed. All areas were cleaned every day to a high standard and the cleaners also washed up any dishes we may have had. I was impressed with the hotels efforts with being Eco friendly, regarding fresh water, soaps, shampoos etc. We were also lucky enough to have a large balcony overlooking the riverside. Great for people watching of an evening. We even watched a ceremonial parade from here when we stayed. Breakfast was served to us upstairs in their restaurant or we could choose to have it delivered to our room. There was a choice of bakery goodies, fruit, cereals and a choice of an Asian or Western breakfast cooked to order. This hotel is in a great location within walking distance to many of the must see attractions such as the museum, Royal Palace Wat Onelum and the Night Market. I would thoroughly recommend a stay here.
We had the deluxe room with wonderful views over the riverside and a great little balcony too. It was a luxury for us but at £39 a night really very good. The room was really tasteful with a great bed, nice chairs and subdued lighting. Lovely big shower with plenty of hot water. It also offered a fridge and safe. The air con was good but due to the size of the room never made it too cold as can happen, but it was cold enough. The service people were great and the breakfast (Included) very good on their roof top restaurant (also nice for a cocktail or too.. later in the day that is!). we were worried by a few comments we'd read but honestly unless you are very particular or have very different taste to us I can't see what's not to like in this characterful period hotel ( we didn't mind stairs!!)
Second visit to this hotel and decided to stay a couple fo months this time. Very well situated ( near lots of bars and restaurants yet still nice and quiet) with huge rooms and a lovely balcony overlooking the river. The staff are warm and friendly and there is a wonderful roof top bar to enjoy and early evening drink and watch the beautiful sunsets. If your thinking of staying in the riverside area this would be an excellent choice at a very reasonable price all in all 10/10.
Our room was situated at the rear so no views but we were out mostly so that didn't bother us. We were on the 3rd floor which is up 4 flights-70 steps (I like counting stairs). Bell boy took our heavy bags up, but wasn't there to bring them down when we left, so that was a struggle! Very nice breakfast, eggs cooked to order, and bacon (of a sort). It was served on the terrace and that's where we sat late afternoon to read and have a drink and watch the world and river go by. The hotel is less than 10 minutes walk from the Royal Palace.
The rooms are generously large and well furnished, The only downside is there is no lift and many stairs up to top rooms - no bell boys. Excellent breakfast in rooftop bar. Friendly staff ready to help arranging tours. River trip was great.
Nice location by the river and the river facing rooms are huge and well furnished. (The city-facing rooms are poky and dark.) A long upstairs walk to the 3rd and 4th floors - no lifts. The restaurant linked to the hotel on the GF is a separate business and very expensive. (There is a hotel restaurant on the 5th floor, but this wasn't mentioned on checking in.) Wifi is poor to non-existent.
Hotel has a small lobby, and the staff was friendly. The location is good, and balcony has a nice view of the river where you can watch a lot of the hustle and bustle. There are plenty of restaurants and bars on the river you can check out. The room is kind of high end, but feels a bit dated, and it was overly big, so much so that the air con's cant keep up to cool the room down. The breakfast which is included is as basic as it gets. Compared to other places in Cambodia, there are a lot of improvements they could make. The place could probably have earned 3 or 4 stars if it wasn't way over priced for what you get.
It's with a heavy heart that I'm writing this review! We stayed there 9 years ago, on our first trip to Cambodia. We loved it so much that we decided to stay there again on our current trip. What a disappointment! Long gone is the lovely restaurant and the high standards they used to have. There is still the character and the lovely antique furniture but it's tired and doesn't feel particularly clean. The curtains were grey with dust or old age or both. There were 3 of us, including our 10 yr old son. We were given a room with a double bed that we felt was big enough to share for 1 night. We asked for an extra pillow - there were only 2 - and we were given a folded duvet and told there were no extra pillows. Really ? The air conditioning was not working properly and despite setting it on 19 degrees and using the wall mounted fan too, we had a very hot and stuffy night and very little sleep. The mattress was antique too and quite uncomfortable. We had to ask for an extra towel as only two were provided. Shower was leaking and the water was tepid although we didn't mind that too much given the hot room. Breakfast was rather basic and we were charged $6.5 for our son ' s breakfast. It could have been amazing, given that it was served on the rooftop terrace, with an amazing view of the Mekong. At checkout, we had to pay cash, but there's a cash point just outside the hotel. This hotel has bags of potential, including great location and very helpful staff. The lady in charge was very helpful and lovely. But the discrete charm and great standards are gone, which is a great shame.
