Difficult to know how lovely this place is as we visited for just one night at the very end of the season. And we missed the right road in, so came up a pretty rough track, discovering the smoother road the next morning on the way out. The slightly dreary weather didn’t help but the welcome is warm, and the rooms are large and comfortable. Except, except, the soundproofing between our room and the next seemed non-existent as we could hear everything that went on the bathroom. Not ideal. We did mention this and ask if we could move, which apparently we could if we paid more, or ‘they’ll go to sleep later’ was the other response. They provided a lovely antipasti at 3pm which was kind; dinner in the evening was OK, but reminded us of 1970s English cooking - lots of sauces. Time for a new chef we thought. The photos in the brochure are amazing in the summer, and the guest reviews reflect this, so maybe we didn’t see it at its best.
Tranquility reigns. Quiet. Serene. Most comfortable room and amenities. Terrific meals. Attentive staff. Wonderful views and mild hiking were the main attraction. We were there towards the end of the season so some outdoor facilities - like the pool - were closed. But it didn't matter. We still sat outside and recovered from a three-week adventure in the countryside.
We stayed at 5 hotels we really liked in Sicily but this one was the most charming. If you want a peaceful, bucolic, beautiful get-away, this is the place. The road getting there was winding and bumpy, but worth every jolt and turn.
If you like to experience a "faraway heaven or hideway of idyllic beauty and tranquility", you will find it at Relais Santa Anastasia. Our only regret in staying at this heavenly hotel, it was only for one night!! We cannot wait to return and fully experience the total beauty of this place!!. During our short stay, our total experience was something out of this world!! Staff, accommodations, restaurant, wines, grounds exceeded all expectations of a perfect stay!!. Thank you to the Staff and Relais for giving us this once in a life-time experience to stay in this Shangri-la!
During a roadtrip of Sicily we decided lastminute to go to Castelbueno and the night before I contacted Santa Anastasia about the possibilities for a winetasting/tour. The morning afterwards I received the confirmation that this was possible and what the options were. We agreed on a 12:00 start and they arranged tour through the vinery with explanation of their wine making process. Afterwards we had the wine tasting, combined with a lunch which was perfect. We bought a few bottles to take home and relive our holiday the weeks afterwards. A lovely place, would recommend to anybody!
Beautiful medieval monastery. Good sized room, a little dark as rooms often are. Wonderful pool with views towards the sea. Very good restaurant. We eT here twice but went into Cefalu for the other evenings as we felt we didn't want the hotel menu again interesting as it was. Friendly staff would definitely recommend.
Our nine day stay in Sicily was spent in three places, and the Abbazio Santa Anatasia was the last and the best. The location is remote but that adds to the tranquility and quality of this lovely hotel in one of the best vineyards in Sicily. The staff were attentive, polite and friendly and always willing to please. All facilities were of an excellent standard, the pool and terrace were wonderfully pleasant even in October. WE ate in the restaurant each evening and the food was delicious, the wine produced on site outstanding. Highly recommended.
Santa Anastasia was easily the highlight of our Sicily holiday. The room was traditional Italian and the bed super comfy. The restaurant staff were amazing; professional, friendly, good humoured and efficient. I wanted to have a copy of the menus for each night we stayed at Santa Anastasia and one member of staff went out of his way to get me copies. We recommend taking a walk around the grounds (which are huge) as it’s a good way of burning some calories gained from the amazing food and wine - the chefs pasta dishes and desserts were outstanding. There is a panoramic view by the pool offering a stunning outlook of the vineyards and coast. There is also a bench at the top of a hill where you can take a bottle of wine and enjoy the view all the way to the sea. Only wished we had stayed longer as the rest of our holiday didn't live up to Santa Anastasia.
I was generally satisified with the hotel which I spent 3 nghts at. Breakfast is unspired but the dinner is good. Room is fine and all works. Staff is generally responsive except for the bar which I found really grumpy. On the downside you really need a car!! It can be done w/o a car but it is really hard and there is no hotel shuttle s n car? If so you have to plan to spend a lot on taxis if you want to leave the property, Also activity drops off around 10pm. It is quite---maybe too much so, Entertainment? Provide it yourself. There are some nice walking trails. Overall: If you want to get away from it all and dine with good food and wine this is place for you. If you need more stimulation then maybe just a night or bring it with you. Hotel is tasteful and traditonal.
Lovely hotel , up a long drive looking out over a beautiful view . The pool area is great but the bar and lounge lacks any atmosphere, little old fashioned. Breakfast was good. We ate dinner here as it's quite remote and the food was delicious, good choice (which we didn't find in some of the other hotels) the waiters were very friendly and professional. The low point of our stay here was the noise at night from another room , they weren't being particularly noisy just talking and walking around but it sounded like they were in our room and kept us awake.
