Nice setting and that's where it ends. Poor accommodation tired and scruffy room, dirty in many areas. Average food and overpriced. Slow and disjointed service. The whole outside area was untidy and not loved. This hotel would possibly get a 3 star rating compared to the numerous places I have stayed in the uk and abroad.
Stayed two nights here for a Birthday trip for my wife. Was a bit worried about having dinner here in their Old Swan pub next door after reading about unsatisfactory service but was amazed! Great welcome, good food, and the staff could not do enough for us and kept coming and asking if each course was liked. Could not ask for more. Would recommend to anyone. Well done team.
Stayed here for 2 nights 2 classic rooms My room was ok but very small my friends room was larger had a king bed and patio with fire pit so despite booking same class of room and same price these were very different My room was very cold and after the first night I reported to reception who quickly sorted the radiator issue however still very chilly from the draughts. Rooms do need some updating especially the bathroom which had a lot of black mould. Staff were really great at reception. Food great for both breakfast and dinner. Spa ok but have had better treatments and is a little pricey for the quality
Friendly staff with beautiful setting around the hotel site. Location is great for our visit.(Burford and Burton on the Water). Rooms and bathroom could be cleaner. Restaurant time could be more flexible as there are no other restaurant or shops around.
The spa was a great choice and reasonably priced we didn't have to wait long for a treatment and made the most of the pool steam room and sauna. Our room had a nespresso coffee machine this was refilled daily 😀
I am not one who would usually write a review but I feel I have to say something in this case. The poor reviews about the rooms and food are absolutely correct. We checked in late Friday evening for our weekend and had booked a standard room through Expedia. Well........ I have never been so shocked with the room when I opened the door. I was really looking forward to the lovely quaint, country feel of the room so was not expecting anything grand or what you may find in a similar rated establishment. The room was right above the kitchen, with a view of bins out the window. The room was so small the door almost hit the bed when we were walking in. There was a massive extractor fan right outside the window which started up at 5am when the kitchen opened. I could hear chatting and the radio playing from that time in the morning. I waiting until 7.30am to go across to the reception to request a new room, they advised me that I shouldn't have waited and reported the problem right away. With all due respect, they were not going to be able to do anything about the kitchen noise, the breakfast had to be cooked! This room should have come with a noise warning. After going over to reception I was moved to a new room at 11am when the current guests checked out. This was great, but the fact that they use this room above the kitchen at all is appalling. The cost that is charged is no less than the other standard room we them moved into. If anyone checking in gets given the room Haythorpe - give the key back immediately and request another room. The reception staff are obviously so used to receiving these complaints we were given a poor apology and they then tried to change the subject.
It was already dark when we arrived at the Hotel so we could not see its beauty yet. The receptionist at check-in was very lovely and helpful. the lounge is very nice and cosy. we've booked a superior room which was very small but cosy. After a little furniture moving we were able to store our two suitcases. the view over the river is beautiful. the beds were extremly uncomfortable and very soft. could not sleep for three nights :( the next morning when we walked to the breakfast room we realised how beautiful and peaceful the grounds are. i've ordered a vegetarian breakfast which was nice. the continental buffet is okay but a pitty they are not serving local jam or honey. that would be even better! loved the breakfast room though. exactly what i love. for the dinner we ate sandwiches and chips in the pub which we liked. love the pub too. very cosy and homely :) we've enjoyed a lovely walk along the thatched houses and the grounds. £25 per person for using the pool is too much. no wonder the pool has always been empty during our time there. free parking spaces available. all in all we've enjoyed our stay very much and if the beds would be more comfortable i'd absolutely go back!!!
Loved it here, area is absolutely stunning and it had everything we hoped for in a quiet Cotswolds break. On arrival given a glass of champagne and room upgrade as it was my partner's birthday which was a brilliant start to the trip! Spa was beautiful quiet and clean and our treatments were amazing. Dinner in the evening was lovely and service was excellent.
Stayed here for our wedding anniversary, and loved every minute of it. Such a relaxed warm feel to the hotel, felt right st home. We stayed in a feature room, which had a fire pit, So sat outside enjoying a fire a glass of wine. The food was amazing, and love the fact that it has pub feel, with a roaring fire. Everything was just perfect.
Old Swan and Minster Mill at Minster Lovell - 11th - 14th September 2017 This hotel is in a beautiful position, with magnificent well tended gardens in a typical 'chocolate box village'. As we checked in we were told " go down to the end of this passage turn left then up a few stairs to your room, room 100". We did so only to find when we 'turned left' we were outside in the rain, we then had to carry our cases up a narrow twisting stone staircase, still out in the rain. Only to find our 'SUPERIOR ROOM' was approximately 9'6" x 12"0 built into the roof space with 'mind your head' signs, a tiny bathroom and a single door wardrobe which also housed the ironing board etc. There was one single 13amp socket in this room. We told reception we were not satisfied with this room and we were advised that they would try to find us a different one, which they did quickly. Second room, room 106, much nicer but, no mini bar/fridge no bath robes and slippers, and NOT ONE DRAWER in the room, no Freeview TV and of course a walk through the rain, across a road to the restaurant for breakfast and dinner. When we were leaving I said to the chap on reception that I was surprised that there wasn't any drawers in the room, he laughed and said "oh I suppose that's so guests don't forget any of their belongings" I said there was supposed to be bath robes but there wasn't, he again laughed and replied with " I suppose that's so guests don't forget any of their clothes" Unlike reception, the dining room staff were all very good.
