Three friends from three states, all with deep connections to Lake Ontario and Oswego from decades ago, gathered for three nights in this house. The house was clean, the manager was responsive to our questions and requests, and the location was very convenient to all we wanted to do in Oswego.After our stay there, we were surprised to see that the average review of prior renters was “exceptional” - that seems a bit generous.Our student days are long behind us, yet this house seemed like student housing converted into a VRBO. The houses on either side seemed like active student rentals, and we were grateful that noise from the house party next door ended by midnight one night.It seemed like the cleaners ran out of time to prepare the house before we arrived, as the dishwasher was full of clean dishes, and there weren’t spare rolls of toilet paper available.We had a few other quibbles that other potential VRBO renters may want to be aware of: stained bath towels and no washcloths other than a few dedicated to makeup removal, broken shades in the bedroom facing the street, and a trip hazard floor elevation difference between the living and dining areas.The steep driveway was a real problem for the sedan one of us rented. The deep scrape marks in the driveway and on the street let us know that this had also been a problem for others. SUVs cleared the steep angle easily, but the rental car bumpers (and sometimes undercarriage) scraped every time.
