Lovely friendly staff that where really helpful, we stayed in cottage rooms across the road from the hotel which where very spacious and clean. We took our dogs with us, so we couldnt go in restraunt but the bar was lovely with log fire, we also had our breakfast in the bar area which was set out lovely and full English was excellent .
We booked this at the last minute for a break before going back to work. It's a lovely period property that dates back to 1841. We were greeted by the owner and shown to our room. Very clean and spacious with an ensuit that was down a few steps. We booked a table for dinner and went to the bar for a couple drinks. There was a lovely log fire burning and it felt very homely. We changed for dinner and went to the Cricketers bar which is less formal. We both ordered the Rib eye steak. I had Black pudding for starter. It's the best Black Pudding I've ever had. They put spices in it To make it a bit different and it works. The Rib eye steak was cooked to perfection and there is an extensive wine list. I had an Argentinian Malbec that was excellent. We went back into the bar area afterwards and had a few more drinks. Breakfast the next morning was also extremely good. The sausage was amazing. They make them in the kitchen themselves and add mustard as well a couple of secret ingredients that they wouldn't divulge. The hosts are really friendly and make you feel at home. We will definitely be coming back here. The food is extremely high quality for a 3 star hotel. Give yourselves a treat and book in here for a night or two. Castle Howard is only a ten minute drive away and the lovely village of Helmsley is ten minutes in the other direction.
The staff could not be more welcoming and friendly, would highly recommend. Lovely country hotel in a lovely North Yorkshire village and breakfast was delightful. Great to stay in a hotel where the staff really care.
Me and 6 friends stayed here whilst another friend got married. We were really spoiled by the staff. They made us feel welcome and even left wine out for us one Night when we fancied carrying on the party. They were very accommodating and the food is delicious. It's a relaxed and clean and cosy vibe. We would definitely come back.
Having attended the farmer's market here we went to look for some refreshment. We had two dogs and asked if dogs were allowed in and received a warm yes. My wife and friend enjoyed an excellent cafetiere of coffee and I a good pint of hand pulled ale. We decided to have some food too in the bar area. What a delight the food was served with Pont Neuf Chips just fabulous. We would recommend this place wholeheartedly.
Just spent two nights here again and we were not disappointed. We were in a cottage room opposite the hotel which was lovely very nice decor and extremely clean. Bathroom immaculate. We ate there both nights and although pricey it is delightful the chef provides some unusual dishes but would have liked a different specials menu for our second night. We ended our meal in the cosy bar area. Breakfasts was also great local produce used. Great friendly staff and proprietor. Overall if you want a quiet cosy place to relax and recharge those batteries this is just the place.
We arrived at the hotel on a very snowy cold day. There were log fires lit in the lobby and bar area which added to the cosy feel of the place. We were shown to our room which was adequate. It was in need of a refurb and was quite cold. The windows are not double glazed and were allowing an icy chill into the room. We requested a fan heater which was very quickly provided. The bathroom was very tired and not particularly clean. It was serviceable and warm. The evening meal was excellent though a little pricey. Homemade bread was served which was delicious. The staff were very attentive and always willing to please. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was plentiful and very well presented and cooked. If the hotel was given a facelift to the bedrooms (public areas not too bad) then it would definitely achieve 4 stars. Our room was in need of a good clean.
Stayed here on Friday for my birthday and what a little gem it is, beautiful hotel, beautiful well presented food and the host was excellent very attentive and went out of his way to accommodate us. Would highly recommend
This hotel is a gem in North Yorkshire. this was our second stay , we stopped for two nights the staff are very friendly and the food is fantastic and the breakfast was delicious with their own home made sausages everything cooked to perfection
The hotel has 2 lounge areas where we were welcomed with a cup of tea. We ate in the restaurant which has a varied menu with some unusual dishes. The food was excellent and the service exceptional. Breakfast had the usual cereals and fruit, as a buffet with a wide selection of jams, pickles etc. The hot breakfast was cooked to order. There is ample parking and free WIFI throughout the hotel. On the downside. We were disappointed with our room. We had booked a double but the room would be more suitable for single occupancy. There was a very flimsy mattress protector, and our sleep was disturbed as we were able to feel the buttons on the mattress, and our night was not restful.
