JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort and Spa

Had wonderful stay there. Love the room, the service. Staff are very nice helpful. Food in the restaurants are ok, not very impressive.

Very comfortable resort that offers all amenities that you need for a great vacation. Very friendly staff that is responsive to the guests and their needs. Highly recommended for its pools, spa, sauna and steam room. Great restaurants and a great beach front.

The staff was extremely attentive to my every need. The spa area is immaculate and refreshing

This was our second time visiting the JW Marriott at Hacienda Pinilla, as usual, service beyond expectations! The menu has changed a little but it's still sooo good, even Room service meals are superb. Buffet breakfast top notch, all the bread selections, gallo pinto and omelettes made anyway you want them, oh! And honey fresh from the panal. You may want to try their fresh juices, you can choose what goes in them too. We took a suite and it was huge. The bathroom was an open space with the shower next to the tub, lovely. Sunsets are the best here! Just be careful with the tides and rip currents, check with the staff or the lifeguard.

It was nice to enjoy peace and quiet throughout this resort, during low season for our honeymoon. However, be prepared to be told many times that this service or that food or drink is unavailable because it is low season.

Beautiful location. The hotel was clean. Room was elegant and bed sooo comfortable. Food was good. My only complaint it that check in and out were a little slow. The receptionist was excellent but she was alone. Would love to go again!

hotel is very nice, some construction going on for the whole week which was annoying in the month of august. They should wait for busy season to go away before doing construction. The restaurants are good but the food is just plain ok. Yes, even in the Steak place is just okay. For the kind of money they ask, either the quality of food should be better or the prices should drop.

The hotel was nice - the beach was beautiful (and they do have these really nice pillows for the beach chairs) - but the rooms were overpriced for what they were and the location is too far in the middle of nothing to be worth it. The restaurant on the beach is pretty good, but the others are way too overpriced for what they are. Staff is nice (but the front desk staff was pretty rude upon check-in). Overall I would not recommend and would not stay there again just because it wasn't worth the high price of the rooms. Next time I'd either pay more for the Four Seasons etc or less for a different place.

The hotel itself is beautifully designed. The rooms are very stylish, with beautiful bathrooms and comfortable beds. The pool is huge. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Special thanks to the people at the free (!) Kids' Club, who took great care of our 6-year old son (who insisted on going back to the Kids Club again and again after trying it once). There are several restaurants within the hotel, but we did not like the food in any of them, except, ironically, for the little poolside cafe. In addition to the not-so-good food, we thought the hotel was too isolated - it takes about 30 minutes to get to the nearest town, Tamarindo. But, frankly, that was not such a big deal. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and will definitely come back.

When I arrived at hotel, they did not have my room ready. Had to wait a long time with them on phone with [...] for them to clear up their confusion. On night one, the air conditioning went out. Was out for five nights. Claim they will reimburse us for the cost -- but that remains to be seen. Location is far from town.On night three, my ceiling fan FELL from the ceiling. They moved my room to one with an inferior location. They never even apologized or did ANYTHING to make up for the inconvenience -- and SAFETY issue associated with this. I had to pack my room and move to another room -- They seemed very unconcerned.A great place -- very nice -- but they need to learn a bit about customer service. The young people working were nice -- but there was never a decision maker present. Very disappointing and inappropriate for a Marriott property.

The hotel is beautiful, and the staff tries to be very helpful. They always have a smile on their faces. [...] the hotel is very beautiful. The rooms are spacious and clean. The food is good. The pool is beautiful, and for the most part you didn't have to wake up at the crack of dawn to get a chair. We have traveled extensively, and I would put this hotel at 4 stars. We went off the resort to go on a canopy zipline tour. Which was alot of fun. We also went into Tamarindo. You can do the whole town in about 2 hours. My husband played golf and he said the monkeys were watching in laughing.Overall a good resort, with a couple issues.

The JW Marriott Guanacaste was a very nice resort hotel. The service was outstanding, the food was excellent (but a bit overpriced), the pool was fantastic and the hotel was right on the beach. There were a few rocks to be careful of in the ocean just off the beach, but not too bad. We had very clean rooms. The bad part about the location is that you have to drive down a DIRT road for at least 2 - 3 miles to get there. Unless you are planning on staying at the hotel to do everything (which we didn't) it's just not the best location.

This was truly an excellent hotel. Grounds, rooms, and pool, jacuzzi was very beautiful. Only issue was that the beach is not the greatest. A lot of rocks when the tide was out, although we found this to be a minor issue. We still swam everyday but saw many nicer beaches in Costa Rica.

I made one phone call home for 16 minutes, it cost $56.00 RIDICULOUS. Internet for $3.00/half hour Expensive. Breakfast Very expensive $25.00 per person. Steakhouse very nice but also expensive $180.00/couple. Not a good location and beach has a fair amount of rocks and can be a problem.

Beautiful layout of hotel. staff should know more English. lot of americans visiting. very nice rooms. The distance to Tamarindo is far and on a very bad dirt road for 3 km. it needs to be paved. The conceriege was very helpful. they need at least 3 or 4 to handle the high volume of visitors in peak seasons. Food was very expensive at the hotel.

The hotel was top-notch, the service phenomenal, rooms spotless, check-in a breeze, restaurants good but needed to be booked in advance. Since we were at the hotel during the Christmas/New Years rush the beach chairs weren't always available, but the employees did whatever it took to find you one. Pool service for umbrellas, chairs, drinks, lunch, towels was outstanding. The location was a bit of a challenge. The entrance to the property is long and dark. I don't recommend driving to the hotel at night. Our cab driver couldn't even find the hotel and had been there many times. Once you enter the Hacienda, you still have another 6 mile drive to the hotel. Overall, it was a fabulous vacation and I would definitely recommend the hotel.

The service at the JW Marriot in Guanacaste was perfect. The staff knows your name and they greet you that way all the time. We went on the canyon tour that included zip lines, horseback riding, and some rock climbing. We went through the Swiss Travel Tours that is located on the grounds of the hotel. The food was good, but limited choices. We rented a car for the time we were there because it was cheaper to rent for the week then take a cab. Be sure to bring lots of sunscreen and bug spray. We had to buy more sunscreen in the gift shop and it cost $29. That was the only thing that we had a problem with. We will be sure to return there, this time we will take the kids

My husband and I stayed at the JW Marriott Guancaste for our honeymoon. It is a beautiful hotel, great amenities, awesome hotel staff (so friendly, helpful, and eager to make your stay memorable...especially [...]!) We looked forward to dinner every night, food was excellent at Manzanita and Azul Grill (loved the Mediterranean Mojito!), and [...] as our host/server/friend. He gave excellent advice about beaches to visit and was so kind to us. The resort was very quiet, few guests due to the rainy off-season. But we had a wonderful time. We loved our honeymoon and will return to see [...]!

We stayed at this resort from 4 June to 9 June during the rainy season. We may have lucked-out but it only rained after the Sun had set. The service at this hotel was fantastic! Everyone, and I mean everyone, was friendly and helpful. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a junior suite just because I mentioned being excited about it being our honeymoon. The room was incredible. We could see the Pacific Ocean and had a great view of the pool area. The suite had two bathrooms and the largest/nicest shower I have ever seen. There were two flat-screen TVs with plenty of English and Spanish language channels available, a safe, a mini-fridge, a huge seating area and a balcony. My husband and I tend to get grossed out by most hotel rooms, but neither of us had a problem with this room. So clean! Everyone called us by name. The breakfast buffet was the best I've ever had (and I LOVE eating). Tons of fruit, an omelet bar, smoothie bar, huge bread and pastry selection, not to mention the chaffing dishes filled with more food. There were only three restaurants open instead of the usual four because it was the rainy season. Each one offered great food and great service. The steak place was the best at the resort and the nearby restaurant, La Posada, was also worth trying. We took advantage of the couples massage at the spa and it was wonderful. The spa was clean and very relaxing. The gym was also very clean with ample equipment and towels. The beach and pool area were great. The pool was huge, perfect for swimming and relaxing. The beach was beautiful and the water was warm. We walked along the beach in both directions and saw plenty of surfers and swimmers. There were signs about a strong undertow, but we had a fine experience in the water (I'm not a strong swimmer). The service down at the pool and beach area was great. The waitstaff was helpful and attentive without being creepy and the food and drinks were good. The drinks were stronger than we expected and I actually had to ask them to make them weaker - something I never experience back in the States. We booked a tour through Swiss Travel at the hotel and had a good experience. We booked the "mega combo" which had a canopy tour, water slide, lunch, horseback riding and hot springs and it was a lot of fun. We rented a car through Avis and drove to the resort from the airport in Liberia. Driving this route was easy except for the final 5 kilometers before Hacienda Pinilla. That road was very bumpy and the paved section was filled with large potholes. We drove slowly so it wasn't a problem. Overall we had a great trip and the resort was fantastic. There's not much of a nightlife at this hotel so if you're looking for dancing or more nightlife you might want to find a different hotel or catch a ride into nearby Tamarindo.
