Stayed whilst working, extremely noisy guests in adjacent room 2am-3am, complaint made with reception, unsatisfactory response given. Avoid at weekends where possible, this is a raucous location and unsuitable for those travelling for work.
Stayed for one night with friends. Facilities were very clean, newly refurbished, felt very comfortable. The added bonus of swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi! Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was yummy. Nothing to fault! Thank you!
Stayed for a couple of nights in business. The staff were exceptional across all areas of the hotel. Room was exceptionally clean, spacious and comfortable. Would certainly stay again next time I'm down that way. I just want to mention the hotel staff again. Super friendly, helpful, courteous and efficient. Thanks guys.
Checked in without a problem and shown room. Now I thought the Holiday Inn Group were 4 star, if so I wonder if the cob webs hanging from the ceiling came as extra, this along with the lack of a light bulb in the lamp and very poor décor in the room. Another added extra was the price of parking, further price hike for you above average price for a Hotel. Another pain is why do they glue the duvet to the bottom of the bed so you cannot pull it up.
I stay here most weeks for a night or two and have been doing so for the last 7 months. The location is convenient for where I work, parking is easy (although as it is close to the airport there is a £5 charge for 24 hours) and it is has all the amenities I want, gym, good wi fi, good size room, mostly great showers and mostly reasonable food. There are some rooms that are very tired and the showers aren’t great, and some rooms where the beds need replacing but even those are Ok for a night or two. The reception staff are really good without exception, it doesn’t matter how busy they are they show patience, courtesy and helpfulness at all times. The restaurant staff are mainly the same although there have been a few occasions where it has not been consistent. The food is as described and can differ sometimes being a little over cooked but the only time I did need to complain it was swiftly rectified so no problem. I think the hotel does its job well. It’s not a budget hotel or a 5 star. it’s clean and functional and I do recommend it to colleagues working in the area.
Saving grace were the smiles from staff which appeared genuine and the gym/spa facilities for the budget. I've given 2 stars on account of willingness on staff's part of wanting to help however and by their own admissions, restricted by faulty equipment, tired/dated rooms and broken/soiled decor. Arrival - Check-In...Mediocre at best. As a Gold Elite member I couldn't have been made to feel less special. There was no Express Check-In, possibly due to one of the two rooms I had booked not having been paid for online despite my CC details being stored on IHG's reservation system. Reason for this could have been the split booking created when my room was upgraded from Standard to King Double. This caused the invoice value to increase significantly as the transaction recorded a booking of 8 people to a room! This was rectified however and partially explains reason for being asked to produce credit card for payment, slowing down the Check-In process after an exhausting 3 hour journey by car. I had originally contacted the hotel having read various posts regarding the annoyance expressed by previous guests of having to pay additionally for the privilege of parking at the hotel. I was advised when I contacted the hotel that everybody, without exception had to pay. I thought if other guests were prepared to accept this surcharge, then surely this was the norm. The upgrade stemmed any uncertainty in this respect till I later overheard another guest checking into the very same hotel that his parking fees were waived at the discretion of the manager. Naturally this took the shine off a bit. Although the lobby, foyer and restaurant/bar areas have benefited from being refurbished, the corridor leading up to room was noticeably tired...our room even more so. The bathroom sealant had black mould/mildew which is irksome when contemplating whether to step into the tub to have a shower. The stained bathmat didn't help although a must to prevent slippage. The dusty extractor fan in the bathroom did not work. I cannot begin to apprehend what the lower Category room would have been like. When I advised front desk it became abundantly clear the staff are aware of impending remedial works desperately needed to bring the hotel up to scratch. Particular mention was made of management waiting for extractor fans which had been ordered to replace the ones which were not working. Guests should not be subjected to this level of ambivalence. As a hotel of repute these rooms should have been taken offline. The Holiday Inn Norwich North with its location and size has the potential to become a very good hotel as the key ingredient...staff that do make you feel welcome...is obvious. Major let down is the decor itself. When I had shown pictures of the the marked walls and the affected sealant to the front desk I was informed a change of room was not possible as the hotel was full, mainly on account of the weddings which were taking place at the hotel. This was evident by the crowd spilling onto the main entrance and carpark on more than one occasion when returning to the hotel late evenings. Visitors were mostly quiet and the loud music was not heard from our room. I'm not sure if my sleep was hindered by the pillow or climate control (?) as my muscles were pretty sore each morning. I mention it to highlight any patterns which may emerge. My wife hasn't complained so it may only be my experience which is unfortunate but not necessarily a problem with the mattress. I had requested orthopaedic pillows in saved preferences...doubt that mine were as I had also stated 'higher floor' and was designated a room on the ground level. A floor mounted electric heater stood in the corner so not sure how effective the air-conditioning in my room was. On a positive note my friends and I were greeted with a beverage of our choice which we were not expecting. Sometimes its the little touches that can make or break a trip. Unfortunately the bad outweighed the good on this occasion.
We’ve never been disappointed with Holiday Inn, whether it be the main chain or it’s Express hotels. This is no exception. On checking in, during the course of conversation we mentioned that we were staying for our anniversary. We were upgraded to an executive room without asking, which proved to be everything you’d want, clean, comfortable, well equipped, toiletries and gowns provided. Beds exceptionally comfortable and as I don’t usually sleep well in hotel beds, this was a pleasant surprise. No noise either despite being next to the airport. Breakfast was lovely - lots of hot and cold choices, hot ones well cooked, and even fried bread - a rare find ! Staff very friendly. Much appreciated extra was the use of spa and pool, very relaxing. Only two ‘downs’ - we ate out as we found the restaurant pricey, and we didn’t like having to pay a fiver a night to park the car. There were plenty of spaces in a large car park so they didn’t reallly need to do this. Anyway we would certainly recommend this hotel and would love to stay again.
I can guarantee that this will be the most uncomfortable bed you will ever sleep on (that's if you actually manage to get to sleep) ever !!! The bed was rock hard, not firm or stiff, nope, it was rock hard. The pillows were like lead slabs. I seriously considered sleeping on the floor as that had some cushioning due to the carpet. Seriously Holiday Inn the bed alone means I will never stay there again. Winge over!!
Very relaxing friendly hotel. Good spa.good food. What makes the hotel though is the friendly staff.we were also given free upgrade to executive suite. Price was £399 for two ;Friday night to Monday Lunch time with Dinner B&B
Yes, we stayed here. Everything was very good with good service. No complaints. The shuttle to the airport was on time and the driver very nice. Our room was nicely done and very clean. The bed was comfortable. The location to the airport was excellent.
