The hotel is conveniently centrally located and right next to a multi-story car park, about a 5 minute walk from the central train station, a 10-minute walk to the “Side” for restaurants and bars and the main shopping area is just over a 10-minute walk away. It’s a great location if you are arriving by train or if you are driving into town as you can leave the car next door in the Grainger Town Multi-story. This costs £6 for 24 hours and £1 per hour thereafter. Check-in and out were both quick and efficient. The bed was comfortable. Our room on 2nd floor wasn’t particularly spacious, but they have managed to squeeze a mini sofa in, which was welcome. We had stayed in the nearby Hampden by Hilton the previous night and were pleased to find in the Holiday Inn that we could open the room windows and not have to rely on the air-conditioning overnight. We left the window open overnight, and there is inevitably some noise, as you are in a city centre. To be expected, really. The bathroom design is quite clever. Although it is fairly small, the door shuts in such a way that the bathroom and toilet become separate rooms and can be used independently. There’s a shower gel dispenser in the shower and hand wash one by the sink. There is free Wi-Fi is available in the room and a there’s decent sized TV, which had a digital clock built in. Watch out to check if the alarm is set – the wake-up alarm went off in the morning, but we hadn’t set it! Must have been on from the previous person. There’s a small kettle with a couple each of tea bags, coffee’s, sugars and milk sachets. It has a note next to it that says you are welcome to collect top-up’s by visiting the reception. A buffet breakfast is included. It gets busy, so make sure you are not last in! It has the basics to get you going; fruit, a couple of different pastries, cereals and scrambled eggs, bacon and beans. There was no problem finding a seat and the food is kept topped up
Positives : Clean, modern, spacious shower, friendly staff. Negatives : Cramped "double" bed, traffic noise 24/7 even high up, no safe or fridge in room, not much left at breakfast after 9am. No further cost improvements? : reception should have a ready list of good restaurants to recommend and the main sights. I seemed to know more about the town from 10mins on the internet the night before than the receptionist. Oh well. Not a big deal, particularly as they were happy to book us a table at the place I'd jotted down in advance. Perfectly adequate for the bargain price of £70, this is a hotel that does what it says on the tin.
Having not stayed in Holiday Express hotels very often I guess I was expecting a no-frills, basic hotel, but the reality is that this one is actually rather good. The location is central and ideal for the Station and the centre of town. Check in was efficient and I found all the staff I met to be very friendly. The room was much better that I anticipated and was nicely decorated, very comfortable, and equipped with everything you might expect in a good hotel. The breakfast was a "help yourself" mini-buffet, but I thought that the scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage were very nice. All in all we had a very pleasant stay and I wouldn't hesitate to use this hotel again. The standard of accommodation and service you get is tremendous value for the price, and this is reflected in my five star rating.
Lets get the honesty bit out the way first , both myself and my partner work for what on room numbers is currently the worlds largest hotel group and for one of that groups brands that would be considered a direct competitor with Holiday Inn Express , between us we have almost 24 years service. Our group currently has no hotels in Newcastle city centre or we would have booked a staff rate or even free room so thanks to good old booking.com ended up at this hotel. A quick look at trip advisor reviews confirmed its was not a dive and google street view showed us it was close to the railway station and city centre. But basically we booked on price £53 b and b for 2 . We arrived bang on check in time 2pm , 2 well dressed smart reception staff on duty dealt with in a very freindly and professional manner told what we needed to know and were in the room within 2-3 minutes. The room for the price is simply amazing spotless everything works ample towels and pillows very quiet no noise from the corridors or rooms next door and something that probably fellow hotel staff will understand more than most , a clear and simple explanation of how to work the air con/air cooling system. The key card always worked impressed with security in that the card is required to call the lift , two lifts so never waited more than a few moments. Never used the bar or restaurant / snack services so cant comment. The public areas were large modern and clean. Breakfast in the morning listed on booking.com as continental but includes bacon , sausage, egg and beans. all the usual continental foods plus Baps , in case you want to take a butty to run off to work or uni etc. Breakfast area well kept and tidy , its included so no hassle checking room numbers etc , we just got stuck in. We have also recently stayed at a Holiday Inn Express at one of the main airports in the north west and at the time i reviewed that breakfast as crap , well this hotels offering now makes that other breakfast look downright pathetic and that airport room was not far off double the price. Check out was very quick efficient and painless. You must consider his hotel. We will be back.
I was only staying here one night as was going to a concert in Times Square and the hotel is literally across the road from the venue so if anyone is doing the same can't recommend this hotel enough. The hotel is also about a 4-5 minutes walk from the train station and about the same from the centre of town. Booking in to the hotel was quick and friendly and the room was clean, comfortable and loved the beds. What I would expect from a Holiday Inn to be honest. Breakfast is included in the price of the room and there is plenty to choose from but perhaps a mushroom and a choice of non-dairy milk could be an option?? Also if leaving early you can take your breakfast to go as there are take away cups and bags for your roll of choice. Checking out time is a very generous noon so if you have had a few the night before then you don't have to be leaving too early. My main concern was being told that there was no parking at the hotel and that you had to pay at a nearby multi-storey however the car park is literally next door and is very cheap to park there. I arrived at 4pm on the Saturday and paid for one day parking (£4.07 via the payandpark app) and that took me to 18.00 on the Sunday! 8am-5pm parking appears to be £6 (free from 5pm-8am) and £3 for all day Sunday. You do have to park on the higher levels as there seems to be an awful lot of permit holder only bays on the higher levels but for the price it's worth it however when leaving just drive carefully on the exit as the last turn is a nasty tight left turn and if you are as short as I am you can't see the front of the car. Would highly recommend this hotel as the price is worth it for the location alone.
Great location for everything Newcastle as to offer Rooms very clean Breakfast everything you would require with out being ott All the staff we met were very polite & courteous Can recommend this hotel for a great base.
Just returned from a night away with my sister. After leaving the station easiest way to find is left out of station past the one life centre and right at traffic lights where you will be met at reception by a very welcoming team. Our room was on the 4th floor overlooking the courtyard it was very nicely decorated had everything we needed tv, tea, coffee, hairdryer and iron. The bed were extremely comfortable and we both had a very good night's sleep. Breakfast was delicious and a good selection. The staff are a credit to the hotel and nothing too much trouble, will certainly be returning in the future.
Great stay, really clean good breakfast choice and excellent value for money! But the main thing for us was the staff they couldn't do enough for us, so helpful and friendly will definitely stay again with all the credit going to the hotel staff, thanks again!!
I stayed in the hotel recently with my daughter. From word go the service was fantastic. Wonderful people in the reception area – Marc, Toni & Michael. Rooms very comfortable and a good breakfast. Well done Holiday Inn express.
This hotel is in an ideal location. The staff are very helpful and friendly, always willing to help out. The breakfast is nice, standard of all Holiday Inn hotels across the UK. I would definitely stay again.
