I was booked in here for 1 night by a client I was doing some work for in the area. First issue was that when I checked in, I was allocated a "room" that wasn't even on the main location. It was one street over, behind the main hotel. To get there I had to drive past and down the side of several dodgy looking houses that could be best described as having the "crack house" look. Once I turned into the gravel block where my room was supposed to be, there was no parking available. Eventually I managed to squeeze into a spot that did not block other cars in. As I was getting my stuff out of the car, I became aware that I was being watched over the fence from the "crack house" by a man with more face tattoos than teeth. He then proceed to greet me with a barrage of profanities...welcome to Jesmond. Once I made it to my room, I found that it was less of a room and more of an up-market shipping container converted to a room. Having said this, other than a broken lamp, the fit out was clean and functional...just not very appealing. As it was about 7 pm, I decided to find somewhere to eat...welcome to Jesmond part 2. There were two choices, Hungary Jacks or the local shopping centre. Upon driving back into the non-existent car park after dinner, I was again greeted by the same said tattoo'ed local and a mate who were in the car park checking out the other cars. The whole situation was very unsafe, so once I got back to my room I called the after-hours contact (there is no reception after 7:30 pm) to ket them know that they had suspicious & threatening people on the premises checking out the cars. He was sympathetic but said there was nothing he could do. I then had to call the police to report the suspicious behaviour. I then resigned myself to the fact that my car would probably not be there in the morning, locked the door and window of the room, and settled in for the night. Fortunately, the car was there in the morning, but the whole experience showed me how your personal safety can be compromised by staying in cheap accomodation. I know its not the fault of the property managers as such, but for reasons of safety and convenience, avoid this place at all costs.
My partner and I booked in for a night away in Newcastle. We got home and we're in bed by 12.00pm. The guests next door obviously had guests from other rooms over and the party for them went until at least 5.00am. People running in and out of rooms and a baby crying that unfortunately for the baby and us, went for hours. When speaking to staff in the office at checkout was made aware that 1. Its the weekend, people party and were their voices 'Maori?' There seems to be a lot of staff floating around during the day but you are obviously left to your own devices at night. The parking is ridiculous, showering - don't bother! Don't take a normal sized suitcase because you won't have anywhere to sleep as there is not enough room to put your bag apart from the bed. Absolutely no floor or bench space. A refund still wouldn't suffice!!! Don't take toiletries etc as you can't utilise them as even the sink is too small to put your toiletries in and if you shower it's a no go zone due to water everywhere. Don't fund their exploitation of people looking for a break.
We booked a one bedroom spa apartment for one night. We checked in at the desk and when we arrived in our room - I rung reception saying I was worried we were in the wrong room - as we were in a brand new room but there was no corner spa and it didn’t feel like it was our room because it had two queen beds and we should’ve just had one queen. They said it was because the spa room was unavailable that they upgraded us to a deluxe room because the spa room was unavailable which was fine as the room was so new and modern but thought they could’ve just told us that when we checked in so I at least knew why. Although when my daughter went to shower in her bathroom she noticed that there was an outside door she opened it and discovered there was a pin pad outside it with a different room number on it So I rang reception again and spoke to a lady this time and she made it clear we shouldn’t have access to that room and it was actually a studio Type room booked for someone else that night but it wasn’t our fault it was fully accessible and the door was wide open to walk into that studio room and I did ring and ask and was told it was fine. It was fine but at the same time I didn’t like the fact that at any given time someone could’ve checked into that studio room and then had access to our room and belongings not to mention the fact we were showering etc not knowing we had access to someone else’s room. The lady came down and fixed the issue and locked our adjoining door to the studio but it’s still not the point, if you change someone’s room from what they booked - tell them and if someone rings and says think I’m in the wrong room actually listen and maybe personally go check what the issue is. There was a unit above us and you can literally hear every time they walked on the floor or shut a door in there room so I’d book a upstairs room next time to be honest. There new modern deluxe rooms are spacious and quite nice and bed was super comfy I think honestly it’s an ok place to stay but do your research on which room you get. There was a shopping centre about a 3 minute drive or 5-10 minute walk from the apartments. Pool is quite small and the hot tub isn’t hot it’s freezing and was quite dirty when we went to use it so we veered away from using it at all. The idea of no key and having a pin code to access your room and to checkout was a good idea tho. Think with some good skills this apartment accomodation complex could be quite good and a great place to stay.
Save yourself the pain, hassle, stress and disrespect! this place has to offer nothing but bad memories and poor service. Better off staying in a backpackers or in your car. Staff were rude, unhelpful and seemed guests were an inconvenience to them and there day.
I accompanied my wife on a business trip. Her company booked the accommodation as it was close to where she had to be. A clean one bedroom unit with a small loungeroom / kitchen located on the first floor opposite the swimming pool, ok if you enjoy the sound of running water. The bathroom setup was a little strange as it had a large spa bath with a shower head above. After a shower there was water everywhere. The staff were very helpful. There is a pub & shopping centre across the road which was handy. I caught a government bus outside the pub to the city centre to look around town, took about 20 minutes.
These villas, like the others in the Newcastle Apartment group are very good. They are economical, have all the facilities and are clean. The only downside is that they can be noisy after 11pm with guests arriving late and moving around. The downstairs apartments are quite noisy - with the thumping from upstairs and the chatter from guests outside the window. So try for an upstairs one if you can manage stairs. Other than that, a good choice in Newcastle.
I booked a deluxe spa room a month before the labour day long weekend. 10 days before my booking started, they informed me that the room was unavailable. They offered an alternate "equivalent" room in Hamilton on Beaumont which was only a small studio room which when i looked up was almost $100 lower in value (but apparently was a better apartment because it was newer). They would give us free parking in the alternate place since it was available in our original booking. When I had looked up the rooms in Hamilton on Beaumont, they had an available one bedroom apartment (upgrade from small studio room) and I had to ask to put into, which they were are little reluctant to do since it was a little more expensive then originally booked. They said they could do it (with no free car parking) but I find it disgraceful they they wouldn't give an equivalent or upgrade to your booking if they mess up your bookings. We cancelled the booking completely (got a refund), and ended up spending a lot more than originally planned since many places were booked out. I should have checked some of the reviews before and found the spa was terrible anyway.
Stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment. Very spacious, comfortable and clean. Fully equipped kitchen. Great location near UON and restaurants. Easy to get on and off Highway to go north or south. Staff very friendly and helpful.
We stayed overnight in Newcastle and we booked a studio apartment at Jesmond. It looks like a nice place... we checked in, they send you a txt with your door code and you go to your apartment. When we enter the studio we say two single beds instead of the the queen size bed room we booked. I called the front desk and they told me someone was coming and fix it.. by fixing it they mean not moving me to another room but pushing the beds together... the bed are reaaaaaally soft and bouncy.. so if you have a bad back... not recommended... The room is very basic... mini fridge, toaster, kettle, tea/coffee, microwave, cutlery, towels, soap and shampoo... and a huuuuuuge flat screen tv. The villas compound have a pool (it's really tiny, but it's a pool) and they have a hot tub, BBQ area and it's across the street from a Hungry Jacks and the Jesmond Hotel (pub). Overall was ok for just the night, but if next time I stay longer I would not spend more than 1 night there.
After the reviews I wasn't going too book. But a friend had stayed there n said it was good. We found it clean n comfortable. Spa was good though shower over it was abit hard too use. Would stay there again. Parking is first in first served so get there early too get a park close too your villa.
