Checked into my room on my first night at about 11:30pm. Very tired after an exciting day in NYC. Reached for the remote to turn on TV, and after looking everywhere there is no remote. Called front desk to ask them to bring up a remote which they did. This remote did not work. Called again to ask for another remote. Next morning went to turn on the water for a shower. Water worked fine with great water pressure, but I could not turn the knob in the middle to switch to shower mode. Left/right/push/pull did not work. Mentioned to front desk, who said they would send engineering up to check this problem while I was out. While I am telling this story ( can not turn knob for shower) the manager keeps saying that this doesn't make sense, that I can't turn the knob to get the shower to work. Which was bizarre, and not what you are expecting to hear when reporting a problem. He also adds that he has stayed in many different hotels and has always been able to turn the shower knobs, really???? That's what you are going to say to your customer??? There was no sense of empathy of even understanding the problem. This person has no business being a manager, instead of making me feel better,he made me feel worse. I told him I would like to be comped in some manner for these inconveniences and he said because I had booked third party (Orbitz) he was unable to do that. It took one more day for them to get the shower fixed, left brass nuts/tubing on sink. Really poor

This is our go-to hotel every time we take a city trip and as transplanted NYers, that is saying a lot! The rooms are clean/comfortable, every staff person is friendly and helpful, and we love our 'old' neighborhood. The connected restaurant is a new favorite, even for friends who stop by to say hello. The only very small glitch not directly related to the hotel is that the nearby parking garage recently changed owners and is no longer honoring a hotel rate, which we didn't realize until after we parked there. No big deal but hopefully that will get sorted out one way or another. Either way, it is not a deal breaker and we will continue to be Lucerne regulars -- we can't say enough positives about this hotel and all of its staff!

Thoroughly enjoyed this hotel, its friendly staff, the on site restaurant, wonderfully appointed rooms, and would stay here again.

The receptionist was very attentive to my requests.

We spent three nights at The Lucerne. The location is excellent, a short walk from Broadway and the subway and also a short walk from Central Park, Museum of Natural History, lots of restaurants and bars, and the 8th Ave subway.

Pro: Location! Safe area with a mix of tourists and locals. Upper West side is a favorite of the city for families and all of our kid-associated needs were easily met. Pleasant short walk to Central Park and several of the best museums, as well as the subway to Times Square or just about anywhere. Several great cafés, pharmacies, grocherys with in a block. Pro: Room size is reasonable for the age of the building, and our kids loved to watch the street from the deep window bay. Elevators are big enough for a stroller. Pro: staff was friendly and helpful, as were the other guests. Seemed clean enough Con: some of the bathroom fixtures were older and finicky and the room decor was not to my taste (think polyester jacquard and fake gilding) Pro: Building facade is pretty distinctive, which makes it easy to spot for kids or easily disoriented adults

I love the Upper West Side and the Lucerne is the perfect hotel for that neighborhood. I love the very short walk from the Lucerne to AMNH, or to walk across Central Park to the Met.

This hotel is in the perfect location for our needs. The room was clean with enough space to feel comfortable. Everyone who works there is helpful and courteous; we also enjoy breakfast at the on-site Nice Matin.

Old fashioned hotel ( in a good way). Friendly, professional and attentive service in every department.

Loved our stay, staff very friendly and helpful. Asked about a late check out and it was "No problem" Every question was answered with a smile and every request was handled. Loved having a doorman, specially at night, added to the personal touch!

Mid-Central Park west side very convenient to subway with direct Line 1 to Penn Station and also Broadway shows. Beautifully restored with pleasant helpful staff. Many nice places to eat and drink in the surrounding area (don't miss Café Lalo for a late night dessert). Also very convenient for the museums in the area of Central Park. We stayed during the recent snow/sleet storm and got a free upgrade to a suite (very nice). They have free wine around 4PM in the afternoon or one day free hot chocolate. Nice café attached. We will stay there again.

I lived in this building 25 years ago as a college student- the building at that time was a sad fleabag apartment building... now it's a charming gem, tastefully renovated from top to bottom and an enjoyable place to stay. My younger self would've loved to stay in today's version of The Lucerne! If you're looking for a comfortable boutique at a reasonable price, without the corporate feel of the big boring brands, The Lucerne is a great choice. I stayed five nights and never had any issues with noisy neighbors. The location is great- easy walk to Central Park, one block to the 1/9 subway line, just 10 mins to Times Square. The neighborhood is chock full of great eateries, watering holes, cafes, etc. I would definitely stay here again.

ALWAYS GOOD CONSISTENT PLACE TO STAY AND STAFF IS VERY NICE.

Very comfortable bed!!! Nice size room. Very cozy hotel. Would stay there again for sure

We loved the hotel. Neighborhood setting, yet close to subway and shopping. Would definitely stay there on our next trip to New York City.

This hotel had a classy feel. The rooms may be smaller than some Americans like but they a beautiful. The attached French restaurant is great for breakfast or drinks. There are skit of good restaurants in the area. The neighborhood is quiet The only issue I noticed was the plumbing could be heard through the walls -- older building The staff and manager were great. Good price for a 4 star hotel.

Clean, comfortable and well run hotel near upper west side amenities.

I wanted a West Side hotel because I wanted to avoid a late train home after the opera. This hotel worked out well.

Extremely convenient and nice. Loved the resturant NiceMartin. Everything lovely.

I don't usually write reviews but we were SO happy with this stay. The location for this hotel is unbeatable -- pleasant area and so convenient to public transportation and attractions. Staff was awesome, room was clean, nice and spacious. They even let us check in early which allowed our child to nap and then enjoy the evening. If you're thinking of staying in NJ or a weird pocket of NYC to save a little money, do what we did and just stay here. You will not regret it - it will make your trip to NYC so much more pleasant to have a clean, comfortable room in a wonderful neighborhood, next to the subway. Sightseeing in NYC can be more exhausting than you think, and it makes all the difference to have short trips to where you want to go convenient place to rest midday in the city.
