I would never recommend this hotel to anyone! Our room completely flooded from the room above us having a jetted bath. Apparently the tub has been broken for a while and for some absurd reason the hotel hasn’t had it fixed. Needless to say, every time someone has a bath, the floors below flood. The hotel was fully booked so they did not give us a new room. We were told we would get a refund for the night but we’d have to book and pay for another hotel. Absolutely unacceptable! We still haven’t received our refund!

I forgot how much I love this hotel. It was close to where we needed to be for the tournament, the lobby was super impressive and classy. The Whiskey Bar was a super cool experience with knowledgeable staff. The rooms were clean, the shower worked well, the beds seemed fresh and really comfortable. Everything was right where we needed it. We didn't try the restaurant because we got there a little late for the kitchen but it looked very inviting. Staff were pleasant and professional - and efficient. Definitely recommend this hotel. Free parking was a huge plus for the 10 of us staying. Having pet friendly rooms was huge too.

So this hotel was obviously incredibly luxurious and the 1990s. The bathroom floors are marble. There’s a Jacuzzi tub my room had a gas fireplace even though it’s a bit dated. The quality of the materials is really good. The door frames are solid wood the bathroom floors are genuine stone, and even though the rooms are older, the shower is incredibly clean and sharp looking. The room had two luxurious robes and slippers. Honestly, if you rolled it back to 1990 this was a five star hotel. The lobby is a real trip. They have a whiskey bar! They have a restaurant that is open for a few hours in the evening. They don’t need to run these things for money, You can tell that they run these two businesses because it’s part of the hotel. The hotel is a whole vibe. It’s filled with portrait of Lady Diana and teacup and displays of scotch. There is a real pride of ownership at the Grand Hotel and I was really glad that we stayed there. A gem!

Comfort stay and reasonable price.

Good location, central to a lot of Nanaimo. A little away from the noise of the highway, but close enough for easy access. Nanaimo North Mall very close with lots of restaurants too. Nice little balcony to enjoy a coffee on in the morning.

Highly recommended! My husband and I stayed for a week in the Maple Suite. It was spacious, well equipped and very clean. Front desk staff was extremely welcoming and great customer service. We would definitely stay here again if we're back in Nanaimo.

The bathtub/shower floor has lost it's non slip coating right where you might stand when showering. I found out the hard way and fell. Tried to stop fall with hand grab rail but to no avail. Used my right fore arm and wrist on the right hand side of the tub wall. When I landed on my backside my right fore arm and hand contacted the inner curtain and that simply pulled down both curtains and the curtain rod that was not properly attached to the shower walls. The rod came down at an angle with quite a severe thump to my head. I had no fractures from the fall or the falling rod so I finally made it out of the tub. All this around 7am. The curtain rod in 421 needs replacement by experienced Maintenance personnel as the rod was improperly installed as it just slipped from the walls as it fell. My wife and I packed and left hotel asap. This incident and silver fish on the bathroom floor when the bathroom light is turned on at night. Leaves me no alternative but to contact the Hotel Manager to ensure no one else has this problem and to discuss some compensation.
